What's New At Disney's Magic Kingdom! | Hugging Characters, Tron Is Testing, New Merch & More!

In today's vlog we head to Disney World's Magic Kingdom to see what's new! We can hug characters again, so we went on a little scavenger hunt looking for meet-able characters around the park. We also rode a couple rides and even saw Tron testing! It was an awesome day! We hope you had fun hanging out with us at Magic Kingdom today. We purchased lightning lanes several times last month when we were there. We had the same problem….when we tried to purchase it gave us a certain time and after our payment cleared the return time was hours later. The guests relations cast members were very helpful every time. They fixed them so we could ride whenever it was convenient for us!!!

Just FYI Tron isnt running at full speed. They said in a release they are running at 50% speed and slowly ramping up from there until its at operational speed.

Molly from AllEars had the same problem with Lightening Lane saying one thing, clicking it and then it changing, she was able to take a screenshot and show it to a cast member and they were able to give her a Lightening Lane for the time it said at first. She suggests to always take a screenshot of your booking so if anything happens you can just show a cast member and they’ll usually be able to do something for you.

She also has the fantastic advice to keep refreshing your screen (fiddle faddling) to look for a better times or availability for lightening lanes! Sad that we have to do that though...

I just got back from Disneyland and the Genie Plus worked great there and we were able to do every ride we wanted on a busy day-but I can see how it wouldn’t work great at all at WDW.

Oh my god, that place with the phone chargers is GAME CHANGING! They need more of those all over the parks. My #1 complaint with Disney is that there's not enough places to just sit and relax during the day.

Each park has at least one of those charging locations! I forget where they are in Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom, but there's some over by Soarin' in Epcot!

Tim it’s so appreciated and so important someone with your platform expresses the struggles with Genie + it’s such a miss from Disney and honestly just seems like the biggest scam money grab from Disney.. families with 4+ are already spending an arm and a leg to get the chance to go and now to basically be out $ when the genie plus and lightening lane isn’t functioning properly or very useful for actual time scheduling. I think Genie+ is only worth it when rope dropping. If you show up at 11:30am, expect everything to be pushed to later times, especially on busy days.

Yes, I agree! We used Genie+ during our trip in January, stayed onsite and rope dropped both days (MK and HS). We were able to ride every ride we wanted to/were able to (with my 3 year old). We did do rider swap for a few. Never spent more than 20-30 mins in any line. Of course there were rides we didn’t use Genie+ for, but those didn’t have long lines to begin with.

How does DAS work since they brung in genie, as went we were in disney world it was before corvid happened so fasspasses was still in, I had a DAS pass & my two daughters was my carers so they were put on my DAS pass, does it work same way having DAS pass

Fast pass is the lesser of the two evils. What covid did prove, was that the wait times were reasonable and a good experience for all guests. Disney are just seeing dollar signs.

Maybe some characters are not comfortable with hugging or close interactions, just yet. Might explain why only some are participating. Gives employees control over their health, which is good. Again, this is my guess and I could be wrong.

Usually the same person is ‘friends’ with multiple characters. Based on height, it is likely that the person who is friends with the chipmunks would also be friends with Stitch and Mickey/Minnie, so it’s unlikely that Stitch wouldn’t want to meet for health reasons as they’d also be friends with the chipmunks, doing hugs, in the same week (if that makes sense!) They’re likely rolling it out in terms of popularity so it’s not one huge influx!

I would imagine like in Paris it's only non face characters that are hugging, in other words Mickey and Minnie can hug because they are in costume but the Princess' don't have that level of protection so are still socially distanced, hopefully that is the next thing to change once things get a bit better

I agree 💯! We managed to stay covid free up until last week. We think that my husband got it at the grocery store. We have a fragile client that lives with us. We don't him to get it. So we are wearing masks and hand sanitizing regardless.

People never stopped getting sick, this is a new spike in cases from a new variant. It's an important distinction because people have been acting like the pandemic is just over just because it's not in the news 24/7 or their hospitals aren't bursting at the seams. Then they don't care about being careful until it's too late and there's a horrible spike again. Jenn & Tim have been really careful from the beginning, which I super admire! It's why they're still masking at the crowded parks and resorts, careful about what inside stuff they do, etc. People don't get it but like...this is why.

Genie plus is annoying, but if you keep pulling down to refresh the page you can usually get a better time. Also put it as your top selection in the tip board so it’s at the top and you don’t have to scroll to the ride you are looking for

I’m glad you keep bringing up Genie Plus. My son is autistic and the ONLY way we could make Disney work (before Covid) was A LOT of planning on my part before we got there. I would schedule fast passes in between DAS passes. Still lots of waiting, but I made visual schedules and plans in between rides / characters. He knew what to expect and it made it enjoyable for him. There’s just no way to plan ahead with Genie and then it not being available on most days, it’s a nightmare for those of us that need to have somewhat of a schedule. I hope they’ll bring back something that works better for everyone (planning ahead).

Honestly you're the only vlogger I've watched that doesn't know the best way to use genie plus. Yes I agree it's not amazing but you have to put in the work to get the lightning lanes, you cant just turn up at lunch time and expect to get passes. I think it would be alot more helpful to your subscribers to actually do research and put the work in to show them how they can utilise it.

EPCOT is a great park for meet and greets! You've got Goofy and Pluto up front. Vanellope and Joy in the imagination Pavilion, Mickey in Pixar movie area (with a much shorter wait than MK), Daisy at the back entrance, Minnie at the beginning of World Showcase, Donald in Mexico and tons of princesses in their respective countries. LOL. So much better!!

Most of the Main Street Electrical Parade merchandise flew off the shelves in Disneyland as well. Most of the stuff was actually gone by the afternoon of the first day they were available, which was last Friday. As for the parade itself, most of the parade is the same, but the final floats in this year’s iteration are new. They are designed in the style of Small World.

@@elenamichel8062 Paint the Night stopped a couple of years before everything shut down in 2020. From my knowledge, Disneyland didn’t have plans to bring it back at that point, so bringing it back now seems even less likely. We can always hope though 😊

That is pretty low of Disney to show 1pm then Tim buys Genie + and it shows 530. 😐 I went to Magic Kingdom 2 days ago (Saturday). It was on a short trip so it was worth it to me to get Genie + so I could cram in more rides. It worked pretty well for me since I wasn’t going for character meet and greets. I’d guess more people were going for those since they can hug/get autographs again. Will be interesting to see if that stays that way or if it tappers off some after some time. Also I did see some Electrical Light Parade bags at the Coop in Disney Springs yesterday (Sunday). Probably gone from there too by now but putting it out there in case some one wants to try it.

I agree you should be able to go to customer service to get a refund, you have to screen shot everything to prove to them of their genie plus mistake, but if there booked up you should get refunds you should have to loses $15 it's alot of money if you have a family who bought 😡😡

Unless you have a limited data, you could’ve used your wireless provider’s network, it’s usually faster to get what you want on Genie+ .Disney’s Wi-fi isn’t reliable because a lot of guests are using it.

All my 30 years I didn’t know you can hug them?!!??!!! 😵 I thought you can just high five them or stand next to them while taking a picture. Wow Also note people need hugs! Some people need actually human interaction as a stress reliever and it makes one happy and some don’t. If you don’t want to hug them nor be close than DONT you do you. BUT please don’t go around telling others to not do it as what ever is your safety mechanism is not others. I really agree with you Tim that Walt Disney World should have gotten the Main Street Electrical Parade. It makes sense since both are celebrating their 50th. They are willing to sell the merchandise, but would not bring the real magic to Florida.
