I used to save up my allowance and buy an AMT 3-in-1 model car kit for $.99 back in the mid 1960s. Still have most of them.

I’m curious as to what they might be changing with the 71 charger rt kit, that thing has been pretty fricking good for like the past 20 so odd years in terms of quality, I notice the air grabber hood they had in a previous street custom version of the car was present (the older kit with the orange car and the silver wheels on the box art)

Correct, they took the best parts from the street machine and put them on the stock R/T so the Hemi, air grabber hood, machine gun exhaust tips.

@@ScaleModelExperiment I hope with this new addition they made some changes to the decal sheet, if I recall the last release didn’t have dash gauge decals or some engine bay decals that could have been there

I've not been impressed with the soft molding and shallow panel lines of these re-engineered AMT kits. They could have been done better.

That’s not the right theory. That’s the reason they are cheap. Now that the guy flipping your burger at McDonald’s now makes $15/hr imagine what a model kit would cost with all the work needed…

@@ScaleModelExperiment I think it is fact not theory.China is a super high tech country that can produce manufactured goods of high quality at very low prices. The US companies that get all their products made there make a huge profit margin. Most of the products that AMT make are just retooled models they have been making for 50 plus years. The Chinese do all the hard work. Also while the wages of US workers are not low I would hate to raise a family, buy a car and a house on $15 an hour with insane healthcare costs. it is no wonder the average American is struggling. AMT kits where I live are in the $40 to $50 USD range.

@@amraceway we could go on and on about the cultural disparity between China and the USA. But the fact of the matter is a hamburger used to be less than a buck before Covid and now it isn’t anymore. Everything has gone up in price. The only way to remain affordable is to cut costs.

Amt models for 5 yr olds real modelers build quality models like Tamiya, amt is cheap boring simple almost snap together crap

That’s a double edge sword. Some would say that it takes more talent to build a crap kit and make it contest quality. Please watch my 50 Ford Convertible series. I did my best to do just that. I do enjoy the crispness of a good Japanese kit personally but the challenge of building an AMT is also enjoyable.
