I normally use Topaz Denoise AI and Sharpen AI as plugins in LR and PS but decided to experiment with bringing the raw files directly into the standalone apps. Denoise AI did a good job using the " raw " processing option. I then saved the file as its original format and also as a dng which I opened in LR later on. The resultant files maintained the same brightness and colour as the original raw file. This was a big improvement over how Topaz Denoise used to be because in the past it produced a dng which looked awful, brighter with a horrible pink colour cast. If however I bring a raw file directly into Sharpen AI's standalone app, when I save it afterwards the resulting dng has been brightened considerably and has a magenta colour cast. I does what Topaz Denoise used to do. It might be worth Topaz introducing a " raw " option into Sharpen AI to stop this happening as it makes the standalone app unusable for me.

Great video! I bought Sharpen awhile back but had not used it much but after seeing your video I just updated it to newest version and will get back into it - already have a few pictures in mind!

If you go into preferences you can tick box all the modes in the drop down list so they all show as a list rather than having to pick one each time and then pick them in the comparative view as in previous versions and I find this simpler than the previous versions

Thank you Anthony. However, my initial impression is of a cosmetic UI change only (I don't like the list replacing the buttons either). Did Topaz Labs improve the actual sharpening?

Dear Anthony, Great video as always. I have updated to this version and was trying to sharpen a bird photo. I found the feathers rasterized and curved lines jazzed up with all the three models. I ended up not using 3.3.1. Did you see something similar?

The comparison view does not work together with the list. When using the list in comparison view, the images will sometimes not update in that view when I use the list.

My question and my most interest is ,how in the first place that you took a slightly blurry focused object photo on mid of the day..? What went wrong..?

Thank you for your demonstration. My observation on using the mask has been , that no matter how large or small the masked selection , Sharpen AI takes the same amount of time to process the image, ages in my case. Yes, I do have a legacy imac which is not at all suitable for these CPU/GPU hungry applications, but I would have thought that the size of the area to be sharpened should make a difference. I wonder if anyone else has had the same experience?

Something that has me confused. Anthony points out that Light does not export raw file, rather most often, it defaults to tiff files. The question I have is ; why not convert to dng files?

My experience with the new Sharpen AI is that the preview of the changes is really poor quality and not reflective of the finished photo when sent back to LR (this being done with motion blur, very blurry on an auto racing photo), which makes it difficult to gauge if you are making to correct changes...the resulting changes don't seem to be as good as the previous version either...think it needs a bit more tweaking.

If you imported your original image directly out of Finder on mac into Sharpen as a RAW then saved the updated image back to its original file, then imported into LR does that then appear as the updated RAW image?

Anthony, thank you very much for the videos you produce. I have learned a lot, thanks to you. I am on a Mac Big Sur. I have not updated the OS. I downloaded Sharpen AI. My version is 3.3.0. I checked for an update but none is available. Can you explain? Are you updated to Mac Monterey?

Would be awesome if you could export masks from LR and just use them on Topaz.

Why does update on 3.1.1 which I just installed take so long? I have a new IMAC with 64 gig of ram and it takes over one minute to run the update. Last version didn't work like that. How do I fix?
@RingWraith663 жыл бұрын
Doesn't seem to be applying varying degrees of sharpness in this new update. It is applying a set amount of sharpness regardless of what setting of sharpness you select. I've set the "remove blur" from between 0 all the way to 100 and in the different modes including auto and manual modes and it applied the same amount of sharpness regardless if I had "remove blur" set to say 5 or 100 it didn't matter. This didn't happen in previous versions. I think you should test it again and see what results you get. Topaz is going downhill with these latest updates. They still haven't fixed the issue of DeNoise not working any longer as a plugin for Capture One yet, and they're lack of communication about it is not very promising.
