This. It’s getting ridiculous Apple. With their focus shifting to versions on iPad and vision I fail to see how their development cycle can ever catch up. Too bad I can’t really live without the magnetic timeline because it allows me to work way faster than in any other NLE. If Resolve ever adds a true magnetic timeline I’m probably jumping ship as well.

Honestly Dylan , each update makes me more disappointed, we do really need these feature : 1- keyframe easing and graph editor 2- dynamic link with apple motion 3- assign more favorite shortcuts like the transform and crop 4- mask to be an independent tool which can be accessed through a specific short cut not under effects 5- Built in Motion Blur 🤷🏻‍♂️

Time machine does work! I like the compress method though as it's easier to have multiple copies of FCP on a single machine that I can jump between whenever I want. Love that you are living life on the edge!!

Awesome, Thanks, Quick question, I know I have to Compress my older version but are my motion templates folders and plugins effected with the new update and do I have to make a copy of all my FX, Transitons etc etc folders before updating? Or does FCPX not change anything in those folders or plugins? Thanks!!!

No changes will be made in those folders! Though I have seen some videos showing to install plugins directly inside the application by right clicking and showing package contents. I would NOT do that, because that will delete your plugins on every update. But if your plugins are installed in Movies > Motion Templates then you’ll be good to go!

Great tutorial. If you still answer on this channel, can you help with the following: no matter what I try - optimized files, proxies - neither clips from the browser nor the timeline will show in the Viewer. Looking for a workaround, I happened to click on the down arrow to the right of the Library / Project name right under the Viewer and selected Reveal Project in Browser. The timeline suddenly appears in the Viewer for half a second, then vanishes and the Viewer goes back to its dark background. Mac OS: Sequoia, FCP 10.8.1. Thanks.

They removed the original large room and cathedral effects, now when I try to reverb audio it just isn't the same as it used to be. It goes for too long and doesn't just fade out the audio if that makes sense. I updated it without make a seperate file to go back to. Do you kno of a better way to reverb/echo out audio?

Hi! I'm still on 2.6.5 because the "mO2" plugin (by Motion VFX, for 3D applications) will not work in the newer fcpx versions since apple dropped fxplug compatibility (until the release of mO3 which won't be fxplug dependent).. I'm still on Monterey. Do you know whether fcpx will be automatically be upgraded to a version after 2.6.5 if I install a newer macOS operating system? (I want to upgrade to a newer OS but I don't want to "risk" FCPX automatically going beyond 2.6.5 by doing so because that will render mO2 unusable...).

Boy are they slow with essential stuff: - auto transcripts - text based editing - set effects to roles rather than individual clips - set parameters for a secondary connected clip (e.g X, Y, scale) - VST plugin support - AI based masking / rotoscoping - more built-in, modern effects and transitions

You might have had Command Post installed which is a third party application that could do it. Until now, it required a third party app. Otherwise you had to manually scroll the timeline during playback if you wanted to follow the playhead. Also waveforms wouldn’t continue to draw during playback until you paused the video.

You may need to go to the bottom left of the "i" tab and change it from "Basic View" over to "Extended". I haven't worked with Pro Res Raw enough to know if it's hidden in that menu or not, but that's the first place I would look.

UPDATE: Turns out even though my timeline showed MUSIC connected and I didn't get a warning the music had been lost by FCPX. Restarting FCPX revealed it gone and now I got warning. This is a bug I used to encounter way back when that is now back. I copy all my files to my project - so its not a link issue.

Their ads are trying to bring over a larger part of the market from Windows to Mac. If Windows users see the apps they know and love are working even better on Mac, then they are more willing to jump ship. Also they had mentioned having years of plans ahead at the recent Final Cut Pro summit. So I definitely don't think they are stopping support anytime soon!

In my case, my custom settings were set to app default. After correcting this, sometimes e.g. command+B would do nothing, had to restart FCP to get it working again. Nasty stuff.

From my short time, I have found it can be stuttery when I first open up a project, but tends to smooth out over time once waveforms have been generated. Granted that's with 3 hours of using it 😂

Select a clip and press CMD T for your default transition (usually the cross dissolve)! If you select just one edge it will only apply that side of the clip.

@@miguelcollado Control-click or Right-click on a clip in the timeline. From the pop-up menu, choose Show Video Animation (or simply press Control V on the clip). In the box that appears above the timeline, click on the Compositing Opacity down arrow in the right corner. This will open up the animation area - here you can drag a fader handle from either end of the clip to create a video fade of your preferred timing. To do this, hover the mouse pointer over the end or beginning of the animator where you see the white line at the top - this will reveal a left and right pointing arrow head - drag this inwards to create the video fade in or out. This may sound complicated but takes just a few seconds to implement. Use Control V again to close the Video Animation box (or Right-click on the clip and select Hide Video Animation).

Slightly unrelated but… the new Sonoma update has rendered my Samsung T7 drives useless. When I plug it in, it will show in disc utility but will not mount. My Lacie hard drives are mounting just fine however. I looked at Mac rumors and several people are having the same issue on Sonoma. Drives not mounting. Anyone here experiencing this/have a fix?

@@Peter-Dirks from what I’ve gathered, Sonoma will have compatibility issues with ExFat formatted drives. Went to the store and bought a new T7 and formatted it to APFS and is working fine. Something about system extensions from third party items, technical jargon I don’t fully understand but I’m just going to format new drives to APFS moving forward I guess.
