Realistically it should be down to whether Southgate wants to stay on. If he chooses to fight for the Euro’s he’s done enough to deserve that shot. Under his management we have become not just a better team but a better squad with the togetherness there for all to see. After the negative and bland Cappello/Eriksson years it finally feels like we’re able to compete towards a final rather then hope for it.

I will say (as a non-England fan) I feel that this mentality is kind of holding England back. Player for player, England are world-class; yet, they always treat themselves as underdogs. You guys shouldn't be satisfied with your results imo; I think England were in a good enough position to win any one of the three recent tournaments.
@rosamontikatharsis4827

@@zzz2223 you’re missing the point then, we’ve had great world class players in the squad for years but under Southgate they’re now cohesive with no negativity coming from the group. We’ve also had managers falling on their swords for years because of their failures and that’s not changed anything. We’ve got a manager the players enjoy, who is doing better then previous managers have done and has had no controversies. We’re in a better position to compete for and potentially win tournaments then we’ve been the last 30 years. The only thing that should stop that is if the manager wants out or the players want a change.

@@rosamontikatharsis4827 I wouldn't necessarily say for years. Before Southgate (i.2. 2014 world cup) the quality of the team was nowhere near the squad for the last three tournaments (2018 WC, 2020 Euro, 2022 WC) if you look at player-to-player comparisons.

Caoimhe knows her stuff good to watch one of these World Cup bits again. With her on it as well from TIFO- as for Southgate gee the United rumours "with hindsight" will be getting going even more now aha

Seb's point about this situation being unprecedented is a substantial one. The waters have been muddied when it comes to what we expect from a national team coach. I always find the 'He got relegated with Middlesborough' argument to be quite a naive and somewhat lazy one. Seb mentioned Capello, multiple league and Champions League winner, who had perhaps still a large majority of the best players from the Golden Generation, but he VASTLY underachieved. We fell to Germany but that was arguably England's worst WC this century from a footballing perspective. I think Southgate has proven to anyone not too stubborn to analyse that international management is very different to the club game. For example, the two treble winning managers in the tournament (Enrique and Flick) really underachieved and fell short of the expectations of their country. A part of me feels like we could try to use the atmosphere and togetherness Southgate created as a platform to give a great tactical mind like Tuchel to go and finally win that tournament, yet there are no guarantees it quickly falls apart. Southgate has created a glue that may leave with him if he does go.

If we go back to Sven, he never had a squad with as much depth as Southgate has yet all the teams he went out to in tournaments you would probably expect England to lose against. But he's deemed a failure?

But this is the issue. Southgate has shown the importance of bringing squad atmosphere. Luis Enrique was an exceptional coach at Barca and Spain played great football. But he ultimately failed and underachieved Spain's expectations in this tournament. You can't just drop a treble winning club manger into international football and expect it to just work.

I find his substitutions baffling but hes stopped england from been a laughing stock so it's his choice if he goes or stays. Fact is if Southgate leaves I don't see him getting a top half prem job tbh. Lower prem upper championship...

Southgate isnt the issue, if we are going to be frank, there isnt enough winners within the squad and they don't have a winning mentality if you notice most teams have players that have won domestic trophies or european trophies I.E. France, Croatia, Argentina etc England won't win anything as long as the players dont branch out and start getting trophies to their name - its no use playing for top clubs in the premier league if you wont lift a trophy - As for the southgate argument i believe that its redundant to get rid of him without any good coaches in the horizon so for me he should stay and the players need to decide their career path - Bellingham shouldnt come to the premier league he should join real madrid, Rice should join bayern munich or something like that - Get trophies players should focus on winning and then can the national team get the rewards as these players grow what it takes to win a league

yeah not like england have multiple players who have won the champions league and premier league OH WAIT YES THEY DO Southgate isnt a manager or a leader. He is clueless in the big games and big moments. If you want to win a tournament you need a manager who will outsmart other great teams and get you over the line. Southgate will never be that guy, so we're never going to win anything with him in charge. #southgateout

@@felixfaillace437 In the first team that faced France, who has won any trophies recently or been a big game player or has been a standout player in helping their team win trophies? Most of the England players aren’t in trophy winning sides let’s be frank and none of them have been able to show that grit about them, I concede that this England tournament is the best we’ve seen from England and that’s mostly down to club football and Southgate making the players relaxed and not piling on the pressure, the grass isn’t greener on the other side rather than rushing to sack him, the question should be shouldn’t the players join other clubs to get trophies under their belt aka HARRY KANE who is the biggest bottlejob there is - staying at spurs has made him regress rather than grow hence why my argument is players should be leaving to join other clubs to get trophies

@@ridwanfarah8288 stones, henderson, mount and walker have all won the cl, prem or both. Lets look at morocco or croatia who reached the semis and knocked out big teams, who do they have whos won loads of trophies? Barely anyone. Whats the difference? They have decent managers that can inspire belief into the players and make good tactical plans. Southgate cant. When you face a team that is your equal or better, the most important person on the pitch is the manager. England will always lose the big games if that person is Southgate.

@@felixfaillace437 You think croatia dont have players that play in top clubs and dont win anything? Perisic has bundesliga, serie a, cl, Modric, Kovacic, Gvardiol DFB Pokal, Brozovic, serie a, coppa italia, I could keep going and same for morrocco, ziyech, en nesyri, bono, saiss, mazraoui, hakimi, the rest are either old or too young (Ounahi, aboukhlal zaoury) The point im raising is that Kane, rashford, saka, pickford, maguire, shaw, rice, bellingham a havent been winners at their clubs respectfully and bellingham is young but this next move will determine whether he wants to be a winner or not - before the tournament the complaint was england will play a back 5 southgate kept his tactics a secret and went with a back 4 and has been praised for the tactics and etc we needed a big game player to step up for the pen and kane bottled it and tactics can be seen that france was afraid of england and sat back on the defensive, I dont think the manager is to be blamed I think its time we stop hyping the players and look as to wether these players have the minerals or not bcos clearly in my humble opinion they dont

If FA could appoint tuchel or pochettino then sacking southgate will be good choice. But if the replacement is like gerrard or lampard or sean dyche just forget it. Just remember nation coach wont be as good as club coach. Southgate wont be the same level like pep, klopp or ten hag but i think he is better than the likes of deschamps, Fernando santos or tite.
