Short answer: Yes, it's arguably the best way going out on a lost to the pound 4 pound 1 fighter than anyone else. To lose to Conor would undo his victories over him, everyone would then be calling for a best out of 7 then. No offense to Tony, but some people/fighters don't know how to quit or at least listen to their bodies on the toll everything has been taking and getting to actually enjoy their family (while they're healthy/functional). There is the trade off if he does semi-retire, take a year or so off and then get the itch again, again it could mess with his legacy on a loss and could not be worth it with rust

Islam fought a better Poirier in terms of TD defence and less naive in terms of game plan. Let’s not act like Khabib didn’t have TDs stuffed by Conor post Floyd on a two year lay off. Think Volk stylistically would have beaten Khabib where Islam could rely on good striking to tide him over between TDs khabib couldn’t and he’s not wearing out Volk in his prime who has probably had the best gas tank all time if not one of the best.

I think they are falling victim to the same thing people did in this fight. We know Dustin is a better boxer than Islam overall, but when the better striker needs to always consider the takedown, it really evens the striking playing field.
