For the Hovea, black lining with hot pink piping!

Loved this video. My vote is a black lining in the cocoon coat and a royal blue to go with the leopard print!

I love the pietra pants but I had to size down and take 2cm off the top it’s a great pattern

Thanks for watching! I’m thinking I might bosh up a quick muslin for them to check the fit. I suspect I might need to do the same as you with taking some of the top off so will be interesting to see how they turn out.

Great plans!! Go with your heart I say- life is short- have fun 😅. Black lining for coat though- the outside will do the talking. You are going to be very busy indeed. Good Luck and Happy sewing 😊. Lynne

Too right. I’ve decided to go for the bold choices. Although have something fun lined up for the coat. I was thinking the outside and inside could both talk and they could have a conversation about how awesome they look together 😜☺️

I think a Gold thread would be a great choice to go with your cinnamon fabric❤

The Pietra pants are also on my makes list for this season. However, due to me living in 🇦🇺 and it already going up to 39 degrees I will be making the shorts version. As to your jacket linings, I think do what makes your heart happy. A pink for the animal print would be great and a red lining for your red coat would be fab. Look forward to seeing them completed.

I have just recently made the Pietra pants in a linen and I love them, will be making more. I did the tapered leg but want to do the wide leg next.

I have been looking for linings tonight. Found some lovely shot linings which I have on a backup list as think I’m going for a complimentary print on the inside. Got 3 shortlisted so now the fun job of picking one. Too much pressure. Going to sleep on it 😜

I would love to make the Langston Trousers. They can be made with a faux fly, and there is a KZbin video about just that. Could you perhaps do a sew along for these as well as the Meadow skirt, which I very much like the look of. Many thanks.
@RipperSeams13 күн бұрын
Ooh.. thanks! I’ve not looked for a video for the Langston yet so I’ll have to watch that next. I’ll see what I can do to film them as well as the meadow skirt ☺️

Great Video can't wait to see your makes. The red, black and pink wool mix fabric is identical to a jacket I tried on it next it's totally gorgeous I wondered when I tried it on could I make this. Funny isn't it how we see things in the shops and try them on and say yep I can make this 😊
@RipperSeams14 күн бұрын
Oooh… had to go look that up on the Next website!! Lovely jacket. There is another coating on Fabric Godmother that is that exact same houndstooth check… bigger squares than mine… but the texture /composition is different (FG has 50% cotton and not so boucle… and I think even nicer)… so you could actually come close to replicating. SA Logan Shacket??!!
@debbiehill279314 күн бұрын
Gorgeous isn't it. That fabric is just lovely. Your coat will be a real statement piece can't wait to see it finished. I've been making the Pilar jacket by maison fauve....actually finished it couple of months ago then it on my mannequin as couldn't pluck up the courage to add the buttons...but I finally finished it this morning using the good ole hammer method. Mmm yes the SA logan is a lovely pattern. I haven't made a coat yet but thinking just go for it 😅

Hi Kate! That is a beautiful and ambitious list! I'm just under 5'3" and the Pietra Pants were a challenging make for me. They are high waisted and the crotch hung VERY low on me. Because of the pocket placement/construction, I found it hard to take enough out of the crotch and waist area and still have everything come together. My pattern did not come with any shorten/lengthen lines. I think the newer versions do. I hope you have better luck with them. And please keep the red for them. I love the design on them so I might have to give them another go. Also, I'd go with 2 shades darker than the Cinnemon color for your top stitching. Normally I'd say go with the hot pink for the Hovea lining, but seeing all of the solid colored fabrics, using a warm tan for the lining might make the jacket blend better in your wardrobe. So looking forward to seeing your finished fall/winter makes. Have fun!
@RipperSeams13 күн бұрын
So many useful suggestions in one comment! Thank you so much!! Love the idea of a tan lining for the Hovea. Definitely something to consider as it would be more classy than a hot pink. I like being classy occasionally 😜
@jdt284014 күн бұрын
I would use the same color to topstitch the pants
@jdt284013 күн бұрын
I forgot to comment on the others… for the coat I would use black or red or hot pink , but in reality I would try to use up whatever I have in stock as lining fabric if it is not that awful :) with leopard any plain lining goes just no print. If you have no funky lining but black , if it is too boring : you can always pop it up with a contrasting color thin piping between the lining and the facings. It helps

Thoughts to your questions: Langston Trousers topstitching - gold? Maybe even metallic? Or if you feel real sure about pulling a straight line, white? Quilted leopard jacket - emerald green or pink lining… why not just go for it if you’re going to tie it closed so the lining is more for you Pink/Black Boucle coat - black lining or … if you want to go wild what about a black and white oversized polka dot inside?
@RipperSeams13 күн бұрын
Thanks for the great suggestion! Love the idea of the metallic topstitching. That would be right up my alley as I’m such a magpie for shiny things!

You’re going to be very busy, all your patterns and fabric choices are great, the last one for the sew over it cocoon coat is gorgeous. Would a black and white fabric look good for that coat lining, and a hot pink would look great in the Hovea jacket. I recently bought some rust and khaki boucle fabric from Roy’s material world at the sewing for pleasure to make the Hovea in. Look forward to seeing all your new makes

Thanks for your suggestions! You know I did consider a black and white stripe for the coat. It was a fabulous contrast but have found a light pink viscose satin which suits perfectly so think I might run with that. Still thinking for the hovea. That one might take a while but got plenty of other things to carry on with while I think! 😜

I made the pietra pants a few weeks ago. Gorgeous front…the back..oh my….looked like I was wearing a nappy….a huge, baggy nappy! to get the elastic to go over my hips it was too big at the waist…I’ve ripped it apart. To be fair, it does say in the instructions that if there’s a big difference between your waist and hips then you need to insert an invisible side zip. I want to do it again but feel I might as well omit the elastic if I’m going to the trouble of inserting a zip……but how to do that I don’t know. I wish I’d had known before I bought the pattern. I keep telling myself it’s a learning curve!
@RipperSeams13 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience. Really helpful! It seems there are mixed results with the Pietras so I might whip up a quick toile to see what I might need to tweak 🤔
@stephaniepaterson634013 күн бұрын
@ I made a toile, loved them, wore them for an afternoon (elastic only as per pattern)…maybe the way to go is to use a very old bedsheet!!! (That’s what I make my toiles out of)😂

I think try something you wouldn't usually wear or make. Follow your heart. Sewing should be a bit playful, otherwise it can start to feel like a chore, especially when you get a big pile of projects lying in wait. I've bought patterns and fabric to make some "useful" pieces but honestly cannot find the oomph to make them. I could also have a laziness problem!
