As a French fan , I cannot overstate how great it is to finally support a French team and to see it reach the semifinals in only it's second year of existence. The play quality has grown tremendously in the off-season and I'm so hopeful for the next. I'm also hopeful Parisians and french people will get accustomed to the team and that attendance will grow fast. These guys are hard working individuals and deserve our support. I believe the Musketeers owners had the right approach, to get very close to the established teams playing in the french championship and develop partnerships. So you dont alienate the existing local footbal teams and build partnerships. Regarding the league growth, your points are solid, especially the strengthening of the current teams and no expansion. Another argument is that there is a clear unbalance between the western and eastern teams in terms of numbers. I know the fan base is wider in Germany/Austria and Eastearn Europe. But there should be only one team per country until the expansion is deemed healthy. Having several teams in the same country is spreading the fan base thin. That's why the Paris musketeers should stay the only French team for the foreseeable future, in order to let the fan base grow healthy. I don't want the ELF to replicate the NFL Europe, AFL and AFL2 mistakes by expanding too fast and then crumbling in spectacular fashion. Fix your income stream, make great TV deals, make the teams pay their rents and players on time, help them make a profit and THEN, expand.

As a German, I am also happy to see the Paris team doing so well. It's the first team in the league that has the potential to survive and constantly draw decent crowds that's not from Germany or Austria. Wish you good luck for the future.

Great video! I appreciate that, unlike the ELF itself, you openly speak about the league's problems. Overall, I still like the league, and it's good that it's there, but the problems are becoming more and more obvious and really cast doubt about the league's long-term future: - Boring, one-sided results and more and more blowouts - Almost all teams that are not from Germany or Austria have poor attendance numbers and many are financially struggling - Team owners are dissatisfied and openly criticize the league for their poor support of the franchises

Well, to be fair, so far there only have been two European football leagues that would qualify as "professional" - the WLAF/NFLE and the FLE. But these were all poor efforts that originated in the 80s and 90s. Today, football is far more popular in Europe, sports teams and leagues are managed and marketed much more professionally, and digital media make it much easier to promote and access a sports league. So I think the ELF has a chance to succeed, but it's gonna be tough, as the recent problems show.

Furthermore, the League is semi professional at best, most players do not get paid or the absolut minimum possible. You never mentioned the unsolved question for next years stadiums for Cologne, Hamburg and Berlin.
@torstenscholz62432 ай бұрын
Yes, true, he overstates the importance of TV - TV deals in Europe will hardly make the league earn that much money. We're not in the US, where the major leagues make billions with TV deals. In Europe, almost any team sport except soccer is struggling to get good TV presence at all. The ELF has the huge luck that Pro7 is still broadcasting it in Germany.

@@revdgreen that's cool. Hypothesis aside, I'm sure the ELF will want to see Milan stabilize before adding a second italian team. They have had some of the lowest attendance figures in the league, not being helped by subpar results and recruitment. I would love to see an European Expansion, inviting the best "soccer teams" in Europe to have their Championship of American Football. The Sport is already quite popular in Germany and England and if the main European Soccer teams agreed to join the competition, it would be a success. A Bayern Munchen fan, a Real Madrid or Barcelona, or Juventus or Milan fans would certainly welcome a competition in which all these teams wouls be represented. Just for simulation purpose, imagine if 32 european teams would be involved in such a tournament: Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munchen, Liverpool, Roma, PSG, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, Inter, Villarreal, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester United, Barcelona, Benfica, FC Porto, Atletico Madfrid, RB Leipzig, West Ham, Atalanta, Arsenal, Juventus, Milan, Ajax Napoli, Club Brugge, Lazio, Eintracht Frankfurt, Sevilla, Rangers, Feyenoord, Real Sociedad, PSV (these 32 teams are ordered here according to their current UEFA Ranking...). If there was an association of NFL and these teams, what a successful Championship it would be !
@plastixat2 ай бұрын
The draft especially and a salary cap is everything competitive sports culture in Europe is opposed to. So what if 3 or 4 teams dominate the league for a couple of years. Happens in soccer all the time. We kinda like it when Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City and Bavaria Munich dominate their national leagues and the European Champions League and the 2 worst teams of every nations league will be relegated to the 2nd league of that country and 2 from the 2nd league get upgraded to the best league of the country. More american player would also net help with identification of the team of that specific team.

@YourPalAlRetroGamerАй бұрын
Sorry, but for the UFL, less is less. The league promised returning to cut XFL and USFL markets in 2025 and 2026, but they renege on that in 2025. If they will do that in 2026, fans in those markets would definitely lose interest in the league. The UFL CAN'T afford to let that happen. UFL should at least expand to 10 in 2026, the New Orleans Breakers and the Philadelphia Stars.

Portuguese league needs to implode just like happen in baseball in that country. Portugal is more closer to have a Lisbon league than national of football due to having a phase were temas burnt money to bring imports and since then the league has been losing teams or only having a lot of them in single location… so I guess this idea it’s a bit silly it self. just like reviving teams from the past, the best option is to bring top level teams.
