I enjoy books about nuns, too so I’d like to suggest a Canadian author, Jane Christmas. "And Then There Were Nuns: Adventures in a Cloistered Life" (nonfiction) was published in 2013. Jane always wanted to become a nun but instead she opted for marriage (twice) and children. In her 50s, she was engaged to be married for a third time when she felt she absolutely must enter a convent to see if she was really "nun material" or not. Thankfully, she had an understanding fiancé who waited for her to make up her mind while she spent time on her spiritual journey. It’s a very interesting read, and I enjoyed her sense of humour.

Thank you for the recommendation! I will definitely add that book to my TBR. I haven’t read any nonfiction about nuns or convents so that sounds really interesting.

I enjoy your videos so much! You are a delight! My mom & I loved The Murder of a Lady! I just looked on GR & I'd given this 4.5 rounded up to 5 ⭐ & here is a bit of my review: "It ticked all kinds of boxes for me: a castle in the Scottish Highlands for the setting, a tense atmosphere of danger, interesting characters, a locked-room mystery, and suspense. I loved it!" 📚❤

Your copy of The Hours/Mrs. Dalloway?? Beautiful! I read The Hours years ago (right before the film came out) and loved it. The film is good, too! I was raised Catholic and I also love books about nuns (I briefly considered going into the priesthood in my younger years) and I'm a sucker for mysteries set in churches. In This House of Brede has been on my TBR for years; I have it on kindle but with such a large cast of characters, I think print would work better for me.

I’m so glad to hear you loved The Hours! And I definitely think Brede would be better in a physical book. I referred to both the map and the character list frequently while reading! I think you’ll really enjoy it when you get to it.

Oh that title sounds SO interesting. Something about convent life is so fascinating to me. I find myself drawn to interesting communities and cloistered life is especially so!

Perhaps you remember the name of Nadine Gordimer because she won the Nobel Prize of Literature. I have "Burger's Daughter" on my TBR shelf for almost 20 years. I now put it on the list for 2025. I love this chat about your books. Thanks for this great video.

Nadine Gordimer is an excellent writer, but beware she has a strong voice that is not for the faint of heart. Burger's Daughter is a wonderful novel.

In This House of Brede is a favorite book on my shelves- have you read other Rumer Goddens- I like all of them- China Court is a good one, as is Take Three Tenses- she is a master of the multiple time frames genre.

Yes, I would like to see this type video every couple of months🙂. I have an aversion to nuns, so don't read any "nun" bks. I went to a catholic all girls h.s. taught by nuns.😐😋. I have Darling, bought a couple of yrs. ago, unread, but close to the top! Thank you Jenn.

I need to order Murder of a Lady and find a copy of No Name! I’m one who never bothers with GoodRead reviews as I find them usually lower than how I would rate the same book. Actually, I’m using StoryGraph now instead of GoodReads as a tracking tool.
@jensreadinglife2 күн бұрын
I tried StoryGraph but I have so much history on Goodreads that I never fully made the switch. I find reviews interesting especially if I’m on the fence about a book but take them all with a grain of salt! 😉
