They can go wild on customizing them and they can be real money pits if you are not careful. I watch the videos of the construction and vehicles "cities" they do for shows and you see a fully decked out rig with a lowboy trailer carrying a nice excavator around on it and admire how cool it is. Then I start calculating what that one setup probably costs (anywhere from $3500 to $8K) and I realize mine is perfect the way it is!! There is a whole world of custom and hop-up parts for these and the sky is the limit for creativity with them.

@@AddamsPlayground did you see RC Icons Keith’s video a couple weeks ago. He’s got I think all of the series of semi trucks, and him and his boys use them to haul their excavators, dozers, etc (which are another completely complex and awesome thing) .. so cool!!

They are extremely amazing kits to build, so much detail and so realistic but they are very pricey! It is a big boy too, take up the space of 3 buggies on the wall and that is with the trailers sitting beside the truck! Truck and trailer together are about 4 1/2 feet long!

Addam, that is a great looking Grand Hauler, the dark blue with the yellow stripping sets it off nicely, I almost didn't notice the driver in the the truck. Again I enjoy learning the date certain Tamiya vehicles was released, especially about the three version that came out. I really thought it was a 1:10th scale, glade you cleared that up for me. Thanks! I am very happy with and proud of this one! It is one that always amazes people when they see it in person!! The lights, sounds and rumble really sells the realism of it! I love it! It is about 4 1/2 feet long with the trailer on it and would be closer to 7 foot long if 1/10th scale! It would be awesome to have that but I wouldn't want to find a place to store it!!! LOL!! The big trucks are fun and a nice challenge to build. The European trucks look really nice, most have an air of elegance to them but the classic American style ones have that tough and powerful appearance to them. They are all giant blank canvasses for customization or even in box art they look awesome! You guys have a nice fleet over there and I am sure it is ton of fun driving them around together!

@AddamsPlayground

The rumble motor is really cool and certainly sells the realism but it can and will shake things loose over time! I knew this going in so the on/off switch was kind of a must! I would love to do the globe liner in an old, heavily weathered logging truck as I feel that is what many of the cab-overs here got relegated to at the end of their lives. I would love the kind hauler to turn that into the Happy Toys truck from the Maximum Overdrive movie! I loved that terribly cheesy movie and it had one of the best soundtracks ever!!! That big jester on the front of the truck was soo cool!! One of these day I will do them!! And Ice road hauler is a cool idea too! Exactly, there are endless possibilities with them and a bajillion aftermarket options for them. I avoided going down that rabbit hole as I had already picked out like another $1000 worth of bits and pieces to put on it while I was building it and thought better of going that far!! It can really snowball quickly. I wanted a lowboy trailer and found that the trailer and then a piece of equipment was going to cost a small fortune so the flatbed made more sense and looks the part for the truck. I would build another 4 or 5 if I had the $ and the space!!!

It is a long build but it all goes together really well. Just take you time and the biggest part it to make sure you have all the parts for paint so you can get everything painted at one time to get an even color. It is a really fun build and other than the wiring it seemed to go together really quick. Get some of the 6mm spiral loom for the wiring, it is cheap and makes it really easy to clean up the wires from front to back.

@@AddamsPlayground Good tips. I haven’t bought the MFC kit yet. So no wiring at the moment. As you said, the cost adds up. Fortunately the kit was a Christmas present, so, off to a cheaper start. But I’ll get the MFC unit first, then build the truck, and decide on the trailer later.
@AddamsPlayground

@@Triggered-RC It is easier to build it all together with the truck and MFC as doing all the wiring after the build is making a few big steps backwards and it is easier to to wrangle most of it as you are building. @@AddamsPlayground Yeah. I plan to build it with the MFC as I build the truck. Been watching some videos on it. Would be a huge pain to disassemble and try to install afterwards. Have not heard of the Beier kit. Not sure they are available here, but all the Tamiya stuff is. Have a $1000 worth of stuff for this truck in my cart at the moment 😂 I did have the idea of forgoing the scale build, just building stock, running it, and then putting brass gears in the transmission and upgrading the differentials, installing a high KV brushless motor and making it into a drag race truck. Looking at the cost, that road would actually be cheaper. And, to my knowledge, no one has used a Tamiya tractor truck as a drag platform, so it might be a neat build and would get a few views and likes on my channel at least. Not sure yet though.

You did an outstanding job on the build. The truck and trailer look great. You have much more patience than I would. Your attention to detail is top notch and you should be very proud of your work.I have seen videos from the UK of events where people get together to run trucks like yours. Do they have anything like in the U.S? I really enjoyed this video.

Thank you! I loved building it and it is the show truck in the collection for sure! They do have meetups here in the US but mostly in the more densely populated areas, I am not aware of any near me. None are as good as some of the European ones, especially in Germany! They really take it seriously and will have 3 day events with whole cities laid out and under construction! Those a re really fun to watch! I am also astonished at some of the setups I see there as some of them with truck trailer and equipment on the trailer are pushing $8000+ driving around there!!! They are fascinating but even for a dedicated hobbyist I still am taken aback with the money some folks have tied up into a single rig! I am glad they do as I can watch and enjoy theirs and not spend all my money on one myself!! LOL!

No, I only have the on rig. I would love to have a couple more of the big truck as there are some custom ones I would love to do but they are a little too pricey to do but so many! I think my next will be the globe liner.

Yeah, Tamiya's version of a drug dealer😁: You can operate it with just a three channel radio and keep the complete price down at a fair level. Bob has prooven it. But as soon you have the truck. You'll want the MFC, a trailer, a switchable fifth wheel, more lights, the trailer remotable, extra functions, etc. And Big T has a little buddy named Carson where you get a lot of more stuff upgrading the technology or doing some body make-up. Very addicting and yes, I still want one😁🤣

LOL!! Yes!! If Tamiya was a dealer this would be their most addicting drug! Thankfully I did not go fully down the rabbit hole as the aftermarket parts and upgrades for these is next to endless and you can send a absolute fortune on them!! I Have seen some really nice builds done on a budget but the lights and sounds are a huge part of it and I am so glad I have the MFC in this. It completely sells the realism of the kit and and makes it the ultimate big kids Tonka truck. It is everything we always wanted from our toy trucks as little boys in the sandbox!! They are both beautiful and festinating to watch and next thing you know an hour has disappeared and it is time to go back to real life but that is the draw of almost all of the RC, you get to blank out for a while from the daily worries and responsibilities and go back to that sandbox for a little while!

I started going down the upgrade path when I built it and that is a very slippery slope!! It is easy to start out tiny and next thing you know there is $500+ in your cart!! LOL! I did not get the mirror mounted antennae when I built it as I was worried I would mess them up right away. After having it for some time I think I could mount them and they would be fine. I can just sit there and stare at this one for a long time, I love the looks of it!!

@@AddamsPlayground I only have a few RC’s but the same I can stare at them. I would have more but almost every single one I had when I was a teen my dad sold them or traded then for work. Sad I had my gasoline model 18 wheeler that my mom had given me and she was a shelf queen. I have no idea what model it was but it was a cab over! It was my gift from her when I turned 10. I never even played with it! My dad always took my things sadly if it benefited him. He remodeled most of an apartment he owns and rented with the trade. My mom was furious.

Will the rear wheels rub the fender easily when passing through bumps? I am planning to put this fenders on my globe liner.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
I don't recall them rubbing on the fenders, maybe running over a big enough step in something it may but not enough to hamper it. I have scratched a fender with the trailer back up an incline and turning. I know some folks have shimmed up their 5th wheels a little to avoid that.

I'm building one of these and just googled to see if anyone had blended the 'sun roof' part into the shell as I have just glued that in and waiting for the milliput to dry so I can smooth it down. I'm doing mine in deep metallic red though

@AddamsPlayground it does look like the mechanical build part is about half the book and the rest is the shell. I really like that idea of the chequerplate over the rear ladder though. That really finished it off well so I light have to 3d print some of that myself.

Great review. How fast does the truck go? I am thinking of getting one. I like that there is 3 speeds. I just want to see it run at full top speed.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
with the motor I have in it currently it goes about 12mph which is plenty fast for this big heavy truck. On the stock motor you are looking at closer to 16 mph which is rather fast. They have limited suspension and are very heavy so when they roll over they are going to get a lot of body damage. These are more for scale driving and the functionality of them. I have only put it in 3rd gear once while driving just to see how fast it is. for the most part i leave it in first gear to have the most control over it while driving and especially when back it up with the trailer on it.
@MrRaverion
@MrRaverion Жыл бұрын
@@AddamsPlayground At 1/14 scale, I calculated 16 mph to be 153 mph at full scale. Thanks for the feedback. Please correct me if my calculations are wrong. I just wanted to see how realistic the speed is to full size. I am not sure if a full size semi can travel that fast but think it covers speed realistic ranges. I will be buying one. Thanks for the review. The trailers look shorter than realistic size trailers. Do they sell longer trailers? Thanks.
@AddamsPlayground
@AddamsPlayground Жыл бұрын
@@MrRaverion with a lower turn motor and I 1st and 2nd gear they are very scale running. 3rd would be flat out highway speeds and not great for the scale size generally. The toys trailers are a bit short. I don't mind it as they take up less room. Lesu and several other companies make trailers for the 14th scale as well as other smaller custom shops. I don't know off the top of my head any to recommend but Google will certainly have you window shopping for days! 😂 try searching for some of the Tamiya and 14th scale Facebook groups and maybe hashtags on Instagram for ideas and options. There are tons and tons of options for these.

Yeah the truck itself is only about $425 usually. Al the rest of it adds up quickly with the MFC light and sound kit being around $400, the trailer being $250 plus the radio and other small extras it gets very pricey! Is is easy to sink $1200-1500 into a truck when building it.
