I just got back from traveling to Seattle, Santa Barbara and Solvang. 90 percent skinny jeans and leggings and very few wide leg pants. I think manufacturers are trying to push change and not the public. Wear what feels comfortable and makes you feel confident. Change feels fresh but what looks good on your body rarely changes.
@drcorrigan Жыл бұрын
I have to agree. I think the wide leg jeans screams frump, especially when paired with sneakers. The manufacturers want us to change it up so we will spend more money. Kay, you look lovely in this video as always, but I was not in love with some of the suggested new looks. I may have to sit out 2023.

Note for our sisters who want to diminish the look of their weight: if a person is overweight, horizontal stripes are a no-no. Many horizontal-striped shirts & horizontal-striped dresses give the illusion of the person wearing it being wider/larger than they are. Vertical stripes make a person look a little taller & less heavy. The striped shirt in the video looks great on Kay, but if an overweight person wants stripes, there are sometimes the options of shirts & dresses with vertical stripes that are nice-looking, too. As Kay basically says in her videos though, what you're comfortable & confident in matters, too.

I always love your videos, Kay! I've used so much of your advice successfully. Sooo, about those skinny jeans . . . First: It's somewhat difficult to find nice jeans that aren't "skinny." Second: Although you look fabulous in everything, Kay, your most stunning photos in this video are, I think, the ones where you are modeling the skinny jeans! Third: As a 63 y.o. at 5'6" w/long legs, I feel much more "frumpy" in those shorter, wide-ankle jeans than I do in the longer and leaner "skinny" jeans. It really depends on your build and personal style. Sometimes, what's in style at the moment may not be something you can carry well, as you said in the beginning. Personally, I'm going to have to stick with the skinnier-style jeans. :)

That's hardly a fair comparison. I would never describe skinny jeans as "long" because they're just ankle length, and I would rather die than be caught dead in "high-water" pants. I wear straight or boot-cut jeans and pants that hit the tops of my shoes, at the instep.
@cynthiajohnston424 Жыл бұрын
@@edennis8578 Agree ! Your pant & jean styles are classics - suitable for women of all heights & body types . May need a slight variation in length depending on footwear . @DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms Жыл бұрын
Yeah, it’s interesting about the cold shoulder thing. I’ve been hearing mixed messages too. I think that’s because cut-outs are in, and for many women the only cut-out they feel comfortable wearing is the cold shoulder. I think a nice subset for that is a top that features some cut-outs at the collarbone instead.

Thank you for your videos, they are always on-point! I looove the trend of straight leg jeans not too wide at the leg opening (though I'll still keep the skinnies for the future). I buy the ones with 1% elastane, not coming back to stiff jeans ever... I also buy them one size larger (I think this looks more elegant). I take the time to adjust the waist though, so I'm not constantly pulling up my looser jeans, using a simple hand-sewn trick learned from my daughter: I cut two slits in the inside of the waistband to pass an elastic all around the inside of the band, leave it sewn-in on one side, and a little elastic tail on the other side for adjusting the waist as needed, girls knot this end, I choose to sew a button on the adjustable side and add some slits to the elastic band to adjust as needed the days I need more room... The elastic is concealed and does not bunch up the waist at all. I'm not a fan at all of camouflage print, tunics or sweat pants, so I will not be missing them. I am loving the pants from Athleta that you feature in this and past videos. Will eventually consider buying.

It has been around so many years, you can almost put it in the classics category. I have seen old 40's and 50's movies where the actress might be seen with a leopard belt or purse, even a coat.

About ten years ago I just felt frumpy and short-legged in everything I had, then I realized it was the tunic over leggings silhouette that was causing this. I gave away all my tunics, many of which were very nice, to a friend who is much taller and heavier, she wore them gladly. Getting rid of tunics was the best fashion move I ever made, I look so much slimmer and better-proportioned in tucked-in tops. I only wear leggings for around the house now, because my derrière isn’t covered in shorter tops.

I like my skinny jeans, tees and button shirt combos, so if needed I can build on those. I have 2 dark denim and 2 tan denim capris that fit well and work with my casual tops. Another big thank you is permission to toss all those infinity and extra scarves. I often comment that I have 50 years worth of accessories…. I’m 76, why am I hoarding them? Out! Out! …. Okay here is the question, for some reason, I bought several long dresses, I am not sure why, I thought they would feel casual, but instead, just frumpy…. Especially with those scarves. Keep in mind, I’m 76 and 5’ tall. No cute heels or shoes live here either. I am an artist, work at home, live alone, go to McDonalds and church…. Not exactly a socialite. What is your thought on dresses? I have long ones and short ones. How many is ‘enough’? I am also cutting back on cardigans, any guidelines? I feel so enlightened and liberated by this video, I hit like and subscribe and look forward to future ones.

Hahaha! I love your attitude. Unless you love dresses, I’d let go of the ones you don’t feel beautiful in. You’d probably feel better in shorter ones and you may consider having one or two that you love hemmed to a better length. Let go of any cardigans that are especially long and bulky and keep those that fit closer to the body and hit you a little higher, since those will help you look a little taller and more slender. Have fun!

You always give great tips! I love all your ideas and outfits (actually not digging the wider dress pants with the flats, it seems aging to me, but I get it’s just an option). I’ve been inspired to go through my closet and weed out. I’ve picked up on some of these trends already and appreciate your showing what to replace them with.

I’m struggling with the skinny jeans as I find it very hard to buy well fitting jeans for my skinny legs and larger waist. I have got one pair of slightly wider ones but can’t say I love them yet. I think straight cut might be the way to go so I’ll investigate a bit. I have already moved on from the heels to loafers or pumps. I like Toms actually. I found your video very interesting and food for thought. Thank you.

Good points! My husband was sitting here and commenting during your video, "Oh my wife knows all about tunics and black pants"!! He's no fashionista! I love fashion and have been feeling these new trends coming! Thanks Kay!

Good points - never liked camo - never understood why someone who wasn't in the military or a hunter would want to wear it! I have a very thick waist/midriff (not stomach), so wearing an oversized shirt over a tank is a good look, although I will button it part way down, as showing my middle is not! I think I will probably still keep wearing a couple of animal print pieces (maybe a belt, small scarf), and will keep one pair of grey skinnies!

It is so appreciated that you give options ¨ instead of ¨; it does not bring us to such a panicky mode (laughter) and it is helping to figure out what to take from our closet. Thank you so much Ms Kay! Have a beautiful week! helene :)

I wear jeans that I have had for years. If they hadn't worn out, I would be wearing jeans I bought decades ago. I wear what makes me comfortable. From remarks I receive from men and other women, it does not seem to be a problem with them and it certainly is not a problem for me. Attitude is more important than style.

I love all of your tips! So helpful! I really like the oversized shirt 👕 with the tank underneath. I haven’t ever worn that trend, but I would love to try it. I also love how Metallics are coming back.

The oversized button up shirts were worn by all the "in" teens in the 50's. What goes around, comes around! (A good reason for putting favorites away, but not getting rid of them)

I don't like skinny jeans. So I don't have any. I will continue to wear my leopard print which isn't a lot but other styles you mentioned, I do have! Thanks!🥰

I love the more elevated lounge wear because I always feel better when I’m out with the dog or running to the grocery store early in the morning. I try to find nice lounge wear from Chico’s and I look for the items that have a nice style twist to them. Like the cut on a jacket or pockets on the pants. 😊 Kay, I strolled into Talbots today and found the cutest lounge set from their Haven line and it was on sale. I need to get back there I saw so many cute outfits ‼️‼️💕😂🛍️

I have always liked the boot cut. I’m short and it balanced me with jacket or boy cut shirt. I like the wider leg with in reason. Also moderate everything not a trendy.

I just ordered 4 pairs of joggers from Banana Republic a few days ago (on sale) so I sure hope they work as elevated versions😊. Probably still better than knit elastic waistband lounge pants, eh? I totally agree with the rest of the list of what’s out...and glad I never embraced those trends.

Great advice. I think I own all those out of date things except the camo. I love that you gave tips to save my skinny jeans since I can't seem to part with them. I only feel the pain about putting away my animal prints but I'll be brave and put them in a cage or something. Thanks for keeping us current!

In my opinion scarves are very matronly. So are long shirts with a tee or tank underneath.

For some occasions a tunic top looks better dressed than a long open shirt, which looks too casual. Guess it's time to wear dresses 🤔. Thanks Kay for the inspiration.

I agree that an oversized shirt is not always the best choice for every occasion. But definitely try wearing some other modern choices instead of the tunic tops. Thanks so much for watching. 😊
