Why people hate on Houston but not Cominski, who's gonna miss the majority of the season, and only had 2 sacks last season. Why isn't he cut?

Cuz sitting on the IR, he doesn't have to be cut. Because he has proven to be very good against the run the whole time we've had him. And because the Lions have struggled to find anyone competent in rushing the passer, two sacks makes him about as good as anyone else. Having said all that, I am a huge fan of Houston. Yes, he's a bit of a liability out there when he's weak against the run and in coverage. But to be excellent at pass rushing, one of our biggest weaknesses last year, he should definitely be getting plenty of playing time, and no one should be talking about cutting him. Davenport went down with the injury we all knew he would get, it's time for James to do his thing.

@@johnboehmer6683 Josh Pascal, who is our #3. I don't know why but I see so many comments or even podcasts where they never talk about him. If you think we should keep Cominski, even though he's gonna be out almost the whole year, because he's good at stopping the run, doesn't really sound that important. I don't we think we need an edge to stop the run, when we have Reader, Levi and McNeill in the middle. There is no other edge that Detroit fans would be okay with starting most snaps last season opposite of Hutch and only had 2 sacks. If Pascal has 2 sacks, he's a bust, or doesn't get mentioned. Houston gets labeled injury prone but Cominski doesn't and who has a higher ceiling?

@@Tre-77 The thing that you're not seeing is that Cominski does not count against the 53-man roster on the lR. It's only if and when he's ready to be activated that we'll have to consider whether or not to keep him. Again, I think Paschal is the better player. He's another one who has been frustratingly slow to come along, not close to reaching his potential yet. Hoping this is his year. Cominski has largely remained healthy through his career though.

Just let him Rush the passer. Jesus Christ. He can be a specialist

He can't play under this system. He's done. Should have kept the dude from Canada

Betts just wasn’t good enough for the system. They clearly prefer a good player that isn’t a system fit over a mediocre, 4th string NFL bench player.

He’s not an inside linebacker. Move him to the olb

I feel he’s trending the way of buggs

I think the problem is pass rush scheme. They want their edge opposite hutch to be a pocket pusher. Davenport filled that role perfectly but is now out the year. Houston will never be a pocket pusher, so him and hutch will leave run lanes for QBs open. I think we’ll have to see Houston more now, but lions might view him as a backup to Hutch.

Sounds to me like the Lions are just keeping their powder dry.
