Heres my short essay on Ottawa: Many of the young, core players are mentally broken. When they start the season, the jet engines are ON and they start zooming. But when they lose, they take it to heart and they start getting in their own heads. Then they lose 2 in a row. Then 3. Then the room goes silent because the demons of past seasons of failure start smothering them. Its HARD to break through that losing trauma. Its like Toronto in the playoffs. Its like "oh no...not again". Then they start gripping their sticks tighter, suddenly the lights are too bright, and before you know it youre back at the bottom of the standings. Things like that are really difficult to overcome.

There must be something in the water out in Ottawa that takes away the skill of their goalies. Even on the struggling sabres teams of the late 2010s, Ullmark was able to keep his save precentage above 900. Add on the fact that Korpisalo is having a pretty good season in boston, with a .909 sv% and a 2.40 GAA.

It’s likely the defense in front of these goalies. Ottawa has incredible offensive defensemen but no real shutdown pairing. This can make things difficult on their goalies especially with all of the high danger chances they give up

@@jimmyhockey the only reason he looked that way is because of the way Boston’s team is built…. He’s not really an overwhelmingly great goalie he’s average.

One thing I want to note at 4:04, I’m pretty sure I know what you were trying to say, you’re correct that they do let in more goals against when compared to an average team, but a goalies specific stat of “goals against average” doesn’t have anything to do with league wide goaltending, it’s just about how many goals they give up on average, in a 60 minute game. Goals saved above expected, compares their goals against, to how many an average goaltender would have facing the same number and quality of shots.

Their advance analytics are the best they’ve been in years. As a Sens fan myself I’m tired of the losing, so I’m not surprised that others are quick to think this is the same old story. You are right that the depth has been horrible this year. Pinto, Greig and Amadio have not been good enough period. Even still, Ullmark has been better as of late, and if the depth can step it up they may be able to get back into it. It’s also worth noting that Jake Sanderson has seemed to take a step back this year. Although he has 15 points, Sandy is first and foremost a defensive defenseman who has developed a strong two way game. Last year he and Zub were a true shutdown pairing. So you’re right, they need to find a solution, whether is be externally or internally. Either way, if they aren’t in the fight by the deadline I would fully embrace moving a major piece, excluding Stützle, Sanderson and Tkachuk.

Losing culture create loser players. Either Norris, Batherson, Chabot, and Tkachuk have to go, I have faith in the amateur scouting staff to draft a player that'll replace them, their pro scouting is not good enough to get this team out of the doldrums.

The problem is everyone seems to think that a specific player is going to make a difference. What needs to change, Is there lack of consistency. That is the major problem. Nobody knows how to stay consistent. Even when they all turn around 30 years of age. Everytime they get the lead. They get cocky and slow down. That also has to change mentality wise. It's all about respecting the game and playing it with consistent behaviour. That is called maturity. We have the depth. Play the game with consistency and grow up. Then they will have success.

Since all goalies perform like crap in Ottawa I've come to the conclusion that team defense is either optional ,pisspoor or both.

The core is mentally weak, and DJ taught them to be fine with losses. Brady Tkachuk is a cosplay captain, a true captain doesn't defend the coach from the backlash DJ got for the lack of improvement in results. People mistake playing a power forward role as leaderships, Brady liked DJ because he never held him accountable that's why he defended him, he's captain but doesn't help his team win games, he only pads his own stats and fights after they already lost.

I don’t believe Tkachuk is the problem at all. Players like Brady are hard to come by, just look at what happened with Matthews Tkachuk, sometimes it’s better to work through the tough times with your best players than to blames them for all of the teams problems

@@jimmyhockey Brady is a piece needed in a winning core, no doubt, but he isn't one to lead a team out of a rebuild, Brady is the type of leader who should have an alternate, he isn't the player to lead a team into a winning record, he's just not that guy, honestly the Senators should have kept some players from the team who went to the conference final to help this current group. The character the "Pesky Sens" had helped that team overachieve above their talent level, objectively this core is more talented than the Pesky sens, character wise they're a bunch of losers for a lack of a better word.

@@jimmyhockey They need a guy like Pageau and Nick Paul right now. Hell even Dylan Demelo, or Curtis Lazar would help. I hated the Sens when they went to the final in 07, but that 2012 team that took New York to game 7 endeared me to them to the point they're my favourite team right now. Lol now that Arizona moved to Utah they're my only team I follow, and I can't follow them because this current core is so unlikable right now, you have no right to say that you tried when your record has been consistently mediocre for the past 4 years. Someone from either the top 4 defense or top 6 forwards has to go, im tired of the same excuses. It sucks because individually speaking this is a skilled team, I was excited when they got Chrychrun then in the Sens usual fashion they played like shit, the fans have every right to shit on this team, they make millions so they deserve it for being such quitters. Chabot definitely has to go, the Oilers are inept enough to trade for him so let them ruin their entire future.
