This is not the first time that Russia is helping African countries fight off the leaches from west. During the struggle for Independence, USSR was behind African independence movements, providing training and weapons. It's true that Russia too has interests in Africa, but I don't think it's a ruthless blood sucker like the west. Because if it were, it would have exploited Africa, after it helped end the rule of the tyrants from the west.
