I've always preferred glue and screws. I believe it's a stronger bond!

As a custom woodworker I will tell you when bonding wood nothing is better than glue! In fact you don’t ever want to screw into the edge of mdf period.. I don’t care if you pre drill it doesn’t hold right. Your average #8 corse thread sheet rock screws that people use are 75lb hold force.. depending on the wood glue you use I like Titebond 3 you’re anywhere from 3500lbs per square inch to 7500lbs per square inch.. Pro carpenters use just enough brads to hold things together with claps so the glue can dry.. occasionally we will use some screws instead of brads but again they are just to hold things together till the glue dries.. You then caulk the inside seams once the glue is dry. Titebond 2 is the best wood glue on the planet period.. that gorilla doesn’t even come close to being as good as Titebond 1. I like the 3 cause it’s good for indoor or outdoor use and resists environmental concerns. Plywood is a different animal.. mdf or hdf is the best for a sub box material wise.. people think it can’t finish like birch but it can and even better if you know how. The glue holds even better with mdf then 5-7-9ply wood sheets.. but for gods sake please never use screws on mdf unless tire screwing face to face.. take the time and make dowels if you really feel like you need to add something but don’t use screws. The completely spread the integrity of you edge screw into it. Use some lacquer thinner in your stain and a fine bristle brush and apply very light coats of stain.. it will stain better then even Baltic birch if you know how to do it right.. you just don’t get the wood grain look is all..

Caulk is good for those without table saws that have some uneven cuts to fill. ;)

Not so. I sand all sides flat. No caulk needed

I have never had access to a table saw.

I always used caulk. I have a jig saw and use the caulk to fill in the gaps too. I even caulked my Skar EVL 12’s in the box for extra security to make sure my sealed enclosure doesn’t leak.
