In this episode I decided to visit an abandoned waste water treatment plant to see if there's any fish living inside it... the results were absolutely shocking! It's completely loaded with fish! No better way to catch them than fishing with a cast net!

There would be a outside water connection to the plant somewhere. And if they closed the plant down they would open it up so that over time the water could normalize - but the bacteria live on for quite a while and give off methane when they 'breathe'. The process used in a plant like that is the same process nature would take, just a lot faster.

Per TECQ guide lines, all waste shall be removed and disposed of according to TECQ and EPA standards. These ponds have been for the most part rendered waste free, the odor your smelling would be a residual odor and that of decaying plant matter and animals that fall in and drown. It much the same as any stagnet cattle pond or flood pond found all over our area. You have the same chance of getting a bacterial infection from the San Jacinto, Trinity, Breas or Buffalo bayous.

Depending on how long they've been out of use and under what conditions they were shut down in, they are likely to be completely harmless and the fish would be edible. However, without any prior knowledge or research you made the right call in choosing to be safe rather than sorry. Great content. Looing forward to watching more.

I would have expected the carp and tilapia and maybe a catfish, but that bass was a nice surprise. Fishing with rod and reels there I'd probably use corn, bread and/or nightcrawlers which should produce some results. Try some heavy kitchen gloves, like they use for washing dishes. They should give you more protection than the surgical gloves, but they'll cost you a little dexterity by comparison.

@@bthorn5035 makes sense. I know a number of species have been spread this way. If the outfit makes you angry, you're outing yourself as the the type of mark I knew would make this video successful. For everyone saying the water is perfectly fine, there's loads of factors you're probably not considering: chemical containers have spilled into the water, the water is especially stagnant in several areas here, proper decommissioning procedures are often not followed (my dad was the safety director for BASF, believe me, they lie all the time), this place has been underwater multiple times and there are chemical plants and garbage dumps nearby (that's in this water now), BACTERIA is not a "toxin" but they can continue to produce them and bacteria grows in abundance in these types of places, fish are not humans and can survive perfectly well being exposed to things that would make you or I very sick because.... we're different animals (can't believeI have to point that one out), etc. Third, I don't care about anyone's non professional medical opinion as I have an actual doctor. Lastly... seriously, come on guys. You know I largely put on the suit to get you talking 🤣🤣🤣🤑🤑🤑🤑

Specimen means a very good size for that species of fish . you would be suprised at the fish a small healthy river/brook/stream can support . I don't know if you are interested but I've had perch up to 4lb s and superb roach up to 3 1/4 lbs which are petty good for the species ! Anglers especially in the uk don't kill the fish nowadays , carp anglers take a scale from the fish and mount it on a plaque .

How can the fish get there? When it was a sewer plant, you’d think there would be too many chemicals for tiny baby fish or eggs to live. Is there fresh water getting into those tanks (other than rain water) and can water some exit? I have no idea about these things!

Its amazing how nature reclaims everything. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust, right? It may take some time for it to happen, but it does happen. Even if it is some fish or ants or other creatures. Luckily, those baby ruth bar looking fish didn't get caught up in the net. Once you manage to catch those, they tend to get easily annoyed and start putting up a huge fight. If you get more than one caught up in your net at the same time, they will really raise a stink and destroy your net very quickly!

We have an abandoned sewage plant also... we took the water and had it tested at a few local colleges cause its free and the water was fine, no contamination.. so we fished and caught a few, cleaned them up, check their insides and the fish were fine.. so we've been catching fish there for a long time and eating them.. lots of bass, cat fish, crappy, blue gill etc.. it's like they were put there purposely and forgot about.. catching fish there is like shooting fish in a bucket... you'll catch something every 3 to 5 minutes and there's mass of them.. We've never taken a net down there but I think we will the next time we go.... this place is hidden and totally abandoned i don't think anyone knows it there.. We've camped there on the weekends and never see anyone.... it's not even on the internet it's so old haha.. looks just like the one you're at... very similar how it's built.. it's my get away from society place.... get some viles of water and have it checked out.. you'll have yourself nice a food source..
