I love hot peppers and am sharing with those courageous enough to try. You and Rob of 7 Pot are inspirations of flavor profiling. This is an education to us all. Thank You! I just started AeroGarden (3) units and am enjoying multiple harvests at 45 days. I purchased a seed starter tray to prep for outdoor garden. I look forward to sprouting and growing some wonderful hot peppers. Thank You for your expertise and knowledge sharing.

Those are awesome looking pods Khang! So much bigger than the Birds Eye when you have them side by side and so cool that it takes on the sweet fruit flavors and heat of the SB. Hahaha, thanks for the shout out too! =)

That pepper looks awesome Khang. Looks like it's extremely productive with good heat and flavor. I bet it would go well in your Sriracha recipe.

Thanks Peter! I will be making some soon, very excited about it.

Did you end up stabilising this? I'm in Australia this summer growing African birds eye (Peri-Peri) , some Vietnamese chilli (I took the seeds from chillis at a vietnamese restaurant lol and they said it's from vietnam), Red scotch bonnet and aji amarillo. I'm going to try cross the Peri-Peri with the Red Scotch bonnet.

A bigger fruity Thai with a burst of flavors and heat, great cross Khang, can't wait to try some crosses of my own, great job
@Laura-je2uw7 жыл бұрын
wow congratulations to the successful cross even though it seems a bit too hot :-) you got me completely hooked to try doing crosses myself - it must be so exciting to see and taste the pods from highly anticipated crosses for the first time. love your videos!
@KhangStarr7 жыл бұрын
It is very exciting! I have another that is going on 3 generations, and the shapes are looking amazing! The anticipating is what make this so fun, you should definitely try one.

Hi Khang, another nice video, and again, I enjoyed it a lot. Anytime you eat something hot, I love your reaction and can't help but lough out loud! Reminds me too much of myself!

If you cross the hybrid back to the Thai birds eye. Would the spicyness and taste stay or go back to being a Thai pepper????
@MultiZombiemonkey8 жыл бұрын
great pods, love the community as well

How does that taste? Thai peppers sharp earthy spicy taste + the fruity scotch bonnets, interesting

this feels like an episode of "Hot Ones" = before this turns into a hot sauce, like a Huy Fong's famous "rooster" Sriracha sauce, Cambodian/Khmer (from the Kampot province) peppercorns, or a Korean "Gochujang" dipping sauce for a kim chi/chee appetizer (ban chan); McIlhenny's tabasco sauce (Lousiana), Frank's Red Hot (cayenne pepper) sauce, or a ghost pepper. my first taste of a pepper, was accidentally chewing it from a tree, near my childhood home. probably habanero, than a jalapeno pepper (it was yellow and/or orange in color).

They look a lot like Bhut Jolokias or Nagas. Which would make sense because Bhuts are crosses of chinense with frutescens birds eyes

If you want a crunchy pepper put egg shells in the soil. Watch out on how much it will make the plant brittle.

What you have is an f1 hybrid. Most likely very unstable. Will you back cross it? Backcrossing should help stablize the DNA in this hybrid. Then you need to continue to grow it out-selecting the best plants that have the traits you are seeking. The project can take 8 to 10 years of persistance in order to develop a stable variety that is appropriate for commercial distribution.

Hey guys, Noob question: If you plant seeds from this cross. Do you get a plant producing that new cross or one of the parent plats? Thanks
@KhangStarr8 жыл бұрын
If you plant seeds from this cross, the new fruits can be very unstable. They can look all funky taking traits from the parents. You'll have to pick desire traits and keep growing it out for 7-8 generations before it is stabled, and will produce consistent shapes, size, color, tastes, etc...

can you self pollinate the offspring and have an offspring true to the new variety? or is this considered a hybrid, and it's offspring would be random between thai and the scotch bonnet?
@elizoop44342 жыл бұрын
It's considered a first generation hybrid. You'll have to start a couple dozen to - a couple hundred or thousand of the new varieties and only select the ones having the characteristics you want and breed them into eachother again the same way 4 or more times, professional breeders do It by the hundreds

Are you from Hong Kong? I'm in Hawaii, and I have a few Chinese friends, but their accents are different. I'm trying to find a pepper to go with my mango mandarin orange salsa. I usually use cereno I was thinking the aji pineapple. Ever thought of crossing aji pineapple with aji lemon drop?

Those pods looks nasty hot. I will try to cross a thai birds eye to a naga viper or a Trinidad moruga scorpion.
