Was it those old Bill Lawrence pickups from maybe the 70s and early 80s that had that weird red-purple-ish color? And I recall it also having a single rail (double for humbuckers) as well. It's the sort of pickup a session person would have bought back before replacements were so abundant. Then maybe Seymour D or Fender decided to recreate the look for Bret Mason? Total guess here.

I really like your format for guitar reviews. The level of detail is unmatched. Normally I watch your videos for my general entertainment. In this case I actually bought a used version of this model and had some questions and after viewing this video (again), well, my questions were answered. What a great resource! Side note: Looking at the Fender website for this model it shows the maroon Seymour Duncan pickup with the embossed Seymour Duncan logo (this was a throwback to how it was in the 80's) but from what I've seen this disappeared from the production models sometime in 2020. The cover is still maroon but it's not embossed with the logo. Also, these are advertised as having Sperzel locking tuners (USA made) but at some point they switched to the Fender labeled tuners and never updated the specs. Neither of these changes affect the function but for those of you that might prefer the original run items it's something to look for. The weight of the ash Fender has sourced for these is all over the place so if that's something you care about you better ask before you buy. I love the one I ended up with, it's a great guitar.

I used to have a Tele setup with my own version of this when I was playing with some cover bands. I had a 59 humbucker neck and quarter pounder bridge with a hot rail in the middle with a blend. I added a second push/pull to split the hot rail and it gave me a ton of sounds to fit about any style. The hot rail and blender actually worked like a mid boost to the QP single coil bridge. Pretty fun guitar but it takes a while to get used to dialing in the sound you want.

That Brent Mason Tele is cool. About 25 years ago, I set up a Strat with the same pickup setup. Of course, mine was somewhat of a hack job but I figured why not wire up a Strat like a Tele and blend in the neck pickup. That way, when using the neck or bridge pickup, I could blend in the middle pickup on a separate volume control. The middle pickup was not even connected to the switch, which was the weakest part of the build. If I do that again, I'll put the middle pickup on a push-pull switch.

I thought it was the most unorthodox method I've ever seen. Note: you can add a Fender 5 Way Super Switch, as I did. It gives you Neck/Both Series/Both Parallel/Both Out of Phase (mine has TBX so I get Both 1/2 out of phase)/Bridge. It's a great way to spice up a Telecaster. Added mine in 2015, after I added a 4 Way Tele Mod Switch, in 2004. (it gives you the usual 3 pup selections, plus Both in Series). Every Tele owner should try either (save your original switch, if you are selling to a purist).

The decal on the back is not supposed to look like that. They obviously didn’t sand it flush.They normally paint it level sand it then do the final coat of satin

Dear Mr. Trogley, Have you ever done a review on the Michael Shenker flying V? Would like to see that please. Thank you. Dave.

Good review! I have a Nashville style Tele on my MSGAL ("Maybe Someday Gear Acquisition List").

Love the primer gray with the maroon pickup. That works for me. The gold control panel is a bridge too far though. Would you say, all things considered, this would be a fairly affordable option if you wanted a b-bender Tele?

I'm not really sure what other options are out there for Bender equipped instruments so I can't really comment
@charlesrense51993 жыл бұрын
@@Trog well there aren't really, which means you're taking a Tele and paying a guy to install a kit, which I could easily imagine coming out to a higher price than this.

Fender used to have a b bender tele with a parsons/ green system. Big mistake when I sold that one

@@michaelgranka7904 Those Nashville Tele B benders are awesome guitars. If you can find one it should be a good bit cheaper than the Brent Mason signature model, plus they came in more than one color.

Shoddy QC for a guitar that ain't cheap. Great review as ever. ✌️

Fascinated with string benders. Want to get a hipshot for my tele.

I thought about adding that to my Tele, but it's got an ashtray bridge, and those don't work with that.

A Herco Jewelers Screwdriver should fit in the holes for the middle pick-up.
