My 2001 GMC Yukon doesn't have a Chip key either it still has something similar to the VATS system, I don't remember exactly how it works it's something in the lock. When I purchased it I found an aftermarket remote start was installed but I didn't get the key fob, so I had to dig into it to find the manufacturer and model, when I was digging through the wires looking for all the part to the system I found a Bypass module for the security system in the Yukon, It allowed the suv to start remotely without the key being in the ignition, but kept the security system working. It wasn't a cheap remote start, I think it was installed by a dealership because there was a lot involved to make sure it was properly wired. Also YT is so full of bad information it's impossible to know what's good and bad if you don't already have a basic understanding of the topic. It's like the people I used to deal with when working for AAA they would break down on the highway call AAA and say they just need a Jump Start??? They had no clue how the electoral system works in a vehicle that if your car died due to a Dead battery while driving you have other issues. Surprisingly a few if these people insisted I didn't know what I was talking about and demanded a jump from my Super Charger in the tow truck!!!! They would get a few miles down rev road and call again saying I didn't jump the vehicle right😮😮😮 at tbis point I would just tell the im either towing it or they have to call someone else because we are busy I can't follow them around, AAA isn't a personale service. You would be surprised how many people thought a Driver was personally being assigned to them because they paid $30-$40 a year for the insurance. Some people should not drive.

GM and Ford anti theft systems can turn themselves on for no reason and not give you real signs and drain the battery dead in an instant. I have had my wife’s Pontiac G6 do this and I have had my F150 do this. I went ahead and replaced the battery in the F150 after having to swap with my tractor’s start battery to get it started. Well it’s time then. Too much to go wrong and too many items that can become high drains while the vehicle is off. Truck seems not to like me leaving doors open while at the range. Even for 15 minutes. Wife’s car did same thing but I can’t blame leaving the doors open. But security light was going the whole time. Both cars would give you signs when they won’t start with their own keys that they thing they’re stolen, does would quickly flash between lock and unlock and lights on and off. Some of this is beyond what it seems, and sometimes a jump is what one needs. Not if it dies while driving though. It needs a tow to be checked out and figure the problem out. I miss the reliability of the older last generation carbureted vehicles. They were awesome machines. Basic wiring that you could replace a leg of the wiring harness at home and just label it and it was good. There was charging, and starting, and lights, and horn and everything else was accessories so your vehicle would run but maybe your power windows didn’t work right or your power locks.

It's funny that you bought up watching KZbin videos since a few years ago I watched one where a guy teaches you how to bypass the vehicle theft deterrent. However he did say if you're having this issue of crank no start on "YOUR" GM vehicle. But basically he went into the ECM put a jump from one pin to another then cranked the key to relearn and poof it started up. He stated possible causes for the VTD activation and I think one was low voltage but I don't remember.

I had a couple of F150 that had a similar steering issue. It was the shaft with the 2 u-joints in it It was actually a pretty simple fix and one went away after a week or so but it was never as bad as what that one looked like. i think that's one of those vehicles you need to refuse to work on again. Keep the good stuff coming.

Vehicle should have a passlock security . When the security light is flashing, while cranking vehicle is not going to start. We use to have a lot of problems with impala’s and pick up trucks if the key cylinder was loose or worn that could cause it. Typically I would replace the cylinder, relearn the system and no more issues. The other thing I have seen is if the customer keeps a lot of keys on the key ring.

Some older cars use a resistance check as the security so if the computer dose not see a proper resistance with the key it’ll throw on the security light that cuts fuel so it’ll crank but won’t start. You can easily fix this by installing a resistor to match what the computer wants to see and it’ll start up again. The thickness of some after market cut keys is what causes this issue

I do not clean up butcher messes in my shop any more. You want to do crap like that to your car have a good time, I'm out! 40yrs. of this type of bs. saving the world from it's own stupidity. I'm done. Only nice easy jobs the rest of the way for me. Does that mean shop gets slow at times? Yes and that's when I work on my own stuff. Take some real old timer advice, a very thorough interview prior to letting that junkheap in your lot. You can learn alot about how serious a customer really is about repair. Shops out there, keep the junk out! When you see shops with 20 gudgions sitting around forever, run like hell. The shop owner by definition is stressed by the work load, which means his techs are under the gun, which means the real legit customer may not get the proper thorough job they deserve. In my humble opinion keep the junk out.

It was always entertaining seeing some car owner's hack jobs, back in the stone age, when I was a mechanic. Of course, the technology that you have to deal with did not exist then. People were still very imaginative and destructive when they didn't know what they were doing and/or weren't capable of doing the repair. Trying to save a few bucks often resulted in the repair costing a lot more than it should have due to owner or hack mechanic induced complications. Did I tell you about the guy that had a charging system that was full field all the time. He got tired of putting water in his battery. He sought the advice of several "industrial electricians" at work and was advised to start the car, remove the battery cable and drive it with the battery cable off. He called me AFTER THE FACT. As soon as he mentioned removing the cable, I interrupted him with, "Tell me you didn't do it!" You know how that story ended!

Seems like a pass lock system. Those can be bypassed once you get the vehicle started. You would have to go through the reset process and get the system to learn the key. Once that happens you can measure the ohm resistance and put in some resistors in series that match that ohm load and never have that problem again.
@mph5896
@mph5896 Жыл бұрын
Those systems are pretty basic to bypass. If its a faulty ignition cylinder, you can replace it and relearn it if the problem. Or you can use a resister, wire it into the pass lock wiring running to the cylinder and do the 10 or 30 minute relearn of the resister.
