Looks like lots of fun! After reading the comments below, and not going into Cask strength (Springbank CS Lagavulin 12) or limited release scotches (Lagavulin 12 + year), I would love to 2nd the Glendronach 12, as well as add Glemorangie 12 Lasanta or Nectar D'or, Glenkinchie 12 (lowlands other that Auchentoshan), Deanston 12, Tomatin 12, Aberlour 12, Glenfarclas 12, Bunnahabhain 12, Glen Grant 12, Bowmore 12 (let's get more peat in there), Caol Ila 12 (even more peat), and Balvenie 12 Single Barrel. Anyway, I poured myself a dram of the Old Pulteney 12 at the beginning of the review, and am glad to see that you agree with my choice as well! That Old Pulteney has to be one of the most complex 12 year old scotches available, and priced very competitively!

I definitely agree with your final two, although Dalmore 12 may have been in the running for me too. Of course there are a few other 12 year old Scotches that may have prevailed over these eight, but It's hard to knock Balvenie Doublewood 12 yr or Old Pultney 12 yr.

Trenny and C are awesome. 14 drams would leave me thinking I could dance and very silly. For me the best 12 year old Single Malt Scothes of this batch are the Balvenie 12 over them all. Old Pulteny 12 year is disqualified because in my area they're not getting restocked. The last batches are from 2016 and 2017. That's it. Only Old Pulteny Navigator is available now.

Bruichladdich 10 yr the first batch was an amazing whisky when it was around. It changed my perception of what scotch could be. i love that their minimum percentage is 46% always natural Colour, and always non chill filter. They are doing it right in the scotch world! Guys Glenlivet and Old Pulteny 12s are,, in my opinion, two really good value single malts that should grace any bar shelf. You were not cleaning your palates with water between tasting so I assume that this was a drinking session and not a half serious tasting.

These should always be done blind, IMHO. Whiskey is something that the flavor can change very easily....especially if you are biased in one direction or another so if you know what it is going into it and know you already like or dislike that whiskey then that bias alone can make the whiskey taste a little better or a little worse.

Who thinks this highly of Glenfiddich and Glenlivet? I have little interest in ever buying either again unless it's the only thing around or I want a cheap 375ml bottle of scotch (they are the cheapest). Green apple is my least favourite flavour in scotch, along with bitterness.

It’s important to include classics epesially ones that are available everywhere and well priced. As I’m sure you noticed, they didn’t win. To be fair. Each distillery has released some incredible expressions. In fact Glenlivet Nadurra peat cask came second for me in my top three Whiskies of the year. Anywho... thanks for watching and commenting! Honestly, from this list of 12 year olds, I would rather a 10 year Glenfarclas, Edradour or Ardbeg. Don't get too hung up on age of the whisky, and pay more attention to the quality of time the spirit spent in the cask.

I am salty about the Auchentoshan going out in the first round. Then again Lowlands Scotch is my favourite. For many reasons, but a big one is that there isn't bullshit prices from typical Scottish Arrogance attached to Lowlands. You don't pay hundreds of dollars for some bullshit name on a bottle.
