Thank you! Unfortunately passive cables only go up to 0.5m at 40gbps, anything longer needs to be active to support 40gb

Awesome video. Just got myself a USB-C monitor and I am picky with the quality of cables and this helps out alot. However the USB-A ports of my Dell U3419W monitor with an X1 Carbon 7th Gen connected are only operating at USB2.0 speeds even with a short 0.8m Apple Thunderbolt 3 cable. I did not expect that from a short passive 20V/5A 100W cable.

Great video- when doing the connection test to see how tight the cables fit, it would be useful to be making a data transfer at the same time to see if the wiggle causes unmounting of attached hard drive receiving the data. Could you clarify the part at the end regarding using the active cable with USB-C periferals? I would like to use a long run active cable to connect a large raid by Gtech XL SHUTTLE which has thuderbolt 3 ports on it. Will the 2m active cable connected to this sort of device maintain the 40gb data rate?

For transparency I do not have current plans to remake this video but will definitely do so if we creating it or testing and the other cables in the future. And to answer your question, yes! If it’s thunderbolt then it will work as expected! Active 2m can’t be used as USB C sans Thunderbolt

yes, it’s the same. It’s thicker so I suspect it won’t fray as much. I can’t say for sure because I don’t move mine around a lot.

Ruslan Tulupov it worked three weeks normally, then, as I know now, was not giving the proper speed so stopped working with Mac OS and the eGPU would not be recognized. As it did still work with a PC and Thunderbolt cables are not something we have by pairs in a household it took me too long to realize it was at fault. Now I am requesting a replacement to Plugable, they have replied so I still have hope, but are already blaming the Mac. I will keep you posted.

The Customer Support from Plugable was very good and reimbursed me after I told them about the issues I had, and I have to thank them for this. Macs seem to be pickier than PCs with cables, it was probably fulfilling the TB3 specification (it did work with a PC) but the Mac would not accept it.

You’re right, I could use some advice on this! I usually set a limiter to balance the spoken audio then set the background music to around -20dB to -26dB, depending on how loud it is. From there I play by ear. Is there a better way to adjust the audio? How would one get it to sound pleasing?
