I have a funny story for you Rob: So up until a month ago, I thought that barefoot - I was 6'3. Measured in socks by a friend 2 years ago. I was in my room one night and after seeing some of the celebrities on celebheights at that height, I thought to myself, there's no way I feel that tall. So I busted out the measuring tape, stood back against a wall and lowered a can until it touched the top of my head. The shock I experienced that night was incalculable - 6'0.75. My whole sense of reality distorted. What kind of nightmare am I living in?? That entire night I couldn't think of anything except for the fact that I have been claiming to be 2.25'' taller than I actually am. So for a few days later, I stumble upon this video. You cannot believe the relief i felt seeing you measure an inch shorter on carpet. I measured my height in my room on carpet as well - so i go to take another measurement, this time, in the bathroom. Sure enough, I stood well over the 6'1 mark at 6'1.5. A huge relief, however, the obsession with height was now very real and the need to regain lost height was there as well. After that measurement, since I'm still young at 21 years old and also have a curved spine - I decided to start stretching everyday. A month later, I measure at 6'2.75 first thing in the morning and 6'2 in the evening. So, I've gone from thinking I was 6'3, to 6'0.75, to 6'1.5, and now to 6'2. I don't think there's a single person in the world that has undergone more height shock moments in a single month. Thank you for putting out these videos and providing valuable resources for height conscious people like myself!

Yeh I often get this around my house. I've come to find that a lot of places in my house over measure me and give me a few Mm extra, but I've found standing on this particularly large flat tile and using an open door give the most reliable measurement.

A good trick I found to tell if the floor is level is to put a ball on the floor and see what way it rolls. If the ball stays put and doesn't roll, you wont over or under measure your self.

Watch out for those wall mouldings and skirtings, as these can alter the measurement. Also, some carpets slope down towards the wall, so you might even over measure in some cases.🕵️‍♀️

Well... this explains why I always get shorter measurements at my doctors office.... they use a wall-mounted stadiometer in a carpeted room. Literally everywhere else (home, the gym, nutritionists office) I measure about 0.75 in, or almost 2 cm, taller.

I found that measuring height in my basement gets me the most accurate results. Just as accurate as me measuring my height lying down. Because the floors in my house are really uneven. I get a tiny bit over 174cm straight out of bed. And I shrink down to 172.5 by bed time. Maybe as low as 172 flat depending on my activity level and if I drank enough water. I just claim 173cm (5’8)

My wood floors and walls are all messed up and I get an half inch and maybe even more lower then my actual height, I normally do this. I stand on my carpet, and I stand on the metal piece of the tape measure with my heels, so it sinks in with my heels and I'm all equal, I make sure someone is there to keep it straight and I hold a can to it. it's the same every time and I'm 174.4cm to 175cm depending on the day. I know I'm not as low as 173 like Rob, and I've been measured at 174 and 174.5, and occasionally 175cm with 174 being my absolute lowest height.

Rob, can you get an accurate measurement from measuring your self in the middle of the room? I say this because the surfaceses in my house are low and not straight and flat. Can you still get an accurate measurement from standing straight nose touches the measuring tape and sliding an object on it till it touches your head?

@@taphorphicexonyct you can't shrink 3 inches man even if you stayed up working for 48 hours straight. I'd recommend getting an accurate measurement asap. Inevitably you'll find out your true height one day so it's better to find out sooner than later. Otherwise, you'll look like a height fraud to everyone for years without realizing it.

How do you know for a fact that you're 6'2", but measure not 1/4 inch, not 1/2 inch, but 3 full inches below that? Are you sure you weren't just claiming the height at which people guessed you at?

This was very interesting and good to know. Also as a video has proved already you do actually lose height but it's due to water in your discs(like the rubber like things you get with fried chicken at the end of the bone) that deplete when standing and/or doing any physical activity. You can not change this height whatsoever, it's permanent and it varies your height. What's mystified me is that if you would lose all the rubber like discs inbetween your bones that add vertical length would it be a 1in or more difference if that were to happen? Anyway good video i enjoyed this. yes.

That's the issue - even some subtle differences between the wall (or skirting) and where your heels sit can result in a small fraction of a difference. Most people wouldn't be able to spot very small slopes that change height by a fraction, unless they had a good idea or got down closer to the ground which would reveal there was a slope. Of course a spirit level also shows up this kind of thing.

If you can somehow push the tape down into the carpet, you might get a better estimate than if the tape is sitting on the carpet (whilst your heels are sinking into it).

The 5’8 would be looking just below the 5’5 persons hairline. It wouldnt be towering but definitely a noticeable difference. Once it gets above 5-6 inches thats towering, pretty much where the taller persons eyes are well above their head
