Axis makes great high aspect foils. I was having trouble gybing until I moved over to Axis. Now I have tons of time to make the gybe while I glide through the turn. Plus gliding is great for riding back home downwind.
@westcoastwingfoil Жыл бұрын
Nice! I agree, the glide is key and helps so much with the gybe. Which front wing are you on?

@@westcoastwingfoil I'm 220 pounds so I have the Axis 1300 (1700 sq cm) for light wind and small downwind waves and the Axis 1050 (1500 sq cm) for windier and choppier conditions. This is a great intermediate setup for a heavy rider. The 1300 is good for any size rider since it's a low wind, small swell solution - it just glides and glides.

@@martinomovies Awesome, I need to get a high aspect wing like that for exactly what you said. Biggest span I've been on is 1100. But I'm also not as heavy as you. Happy riding!

Great video, you succinctly covered all the foil basics. Something that is important to me is an upgrade path. Does the foil manufacturer offer decent smaller and/or higher aspect wings that work on the same fuselage? This prevents the need to rebuy a full new setup when the inevitable upgrade comes. See you on the water, oh and nice board!👍🏻
@westcoastwingfoil Жыл бұрын
Thanks Adam! You're in Vancouver? Riding Roberts?That's very true about the upgrade path. That's kind of what I meant with the upgrading of wings and wing availability but the fuse is also a good consideration. I haven't considered upgrading or changing my standard fuse. Did you start with a bigger fusalage for stability and then have to get something smaller?

I'm running the Slingshot Phantasm for Wing and Kite. The G series are great wing foils, for kite either the ptm 730 , 684, sometimes the pfi 730 for high wing kite foil or super wing foil

For the little ladies, I’m 110lbs and use Takuma Kujira 1210 for light winds up to 15kts, and Takuma Kujira 980 for higher winds. I’m and intermediate winger and really don’t feel a need to change any time soon. I started with the Helium 1500 but it was way too much lift and I felt like I was being shot out of a cannon, so I switched to the 1210 and learning was great. I’ve been on the 220 stabilizer from the beginning but it was challenging at first because it felt pretty loose, but I got used to it and now I love the maneuverability. 75cm mast for the first 6 months then on to 85cm. I’m 9 months in to my wing journey and am starting to go in the surf. I’d recommend anyone 120lbs and under to skip the super big front wing it’ll just cause you to breech as soon as a gust comes. Hope that helps!!

Thanks for that info Jana! Where are you based? I'd love to create some more content for women. I'm sure it's lacking and I'm sure it would help lots of ladies get flying faster.

Takuma is junk. There’s a reason they don’t exist anymore. I would never recommend Takuma in the past. And now that they’re out of business, it’s a bigger reason to not buy.

Great video, some good advice for all levels. In another episode maybe for riders a bit more advanced could you discuss rear wing sizes and how it affects the ride. Cheers. Grant

Are you just starting out? If the answer is yes, then I'd really discourage that set-up. Will be almost impossible to learn on! It can be done, but really think it's a bad idea in majority of cases.

@@moosen1262 tell your distributor I ride 800 wing with232 stabilizer and cut the tips off to make it even looser. I’m not into speed I’m ln to free ride and carve. I choose them because of his design and detail when you can leave your foil assembled for almost a year and a half, and want to take it apart with no problem. Did that with a slingshot broke the nut right off? it was so seized.
