@pestandlawnginja6 жыл бұрын
It's an awesome product Mark. However, even with the peladow it's best to push the snow away from the plants and grass. Over application will still harm the grass unfortunately.

The chemical ice melt products are really hard on concrete and pavers. I replaced a few walkways this summer because of these products. Plain old rock salt is best to not create damage to these surfaces. Alternately use as much as you want and I will be there in the spring to give you a quote on your restoration work.😁😁😁😁

Hi 🙋♀️ we have poured concrete steps outside of our house that leads to our front door. Would you recommend the Peladow product? We had a big ice storm and want to make sure our steps aren’t slippery, but don’t want to ruin the poured concrete... Great video by the way ☺️☺️
@pestandlawnginja4 жыл бұрын
I would personally do the pelledow and put it in a bucket and water. then pour it out. after the ice melts I would put water on it to wash the residual off.

Hey Ginga! I can’t find the Peladow at Menard’s, Lowe’s or Home Depot, but they do sell Calcium Chloride. Is that the same stuff as Peladow? What ear buds do you wear? You like? Looking for a good brand to buy? Keep up the nice work! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

Peladow is a 90% calcium chloride. Imo calcium chloride is calcium chloride. Just be sure to check ingredients and make sure it's a pure blended calcium chloride and itll be comparable.

Just picked up a product called “Contractors Choice commercial grade “ ice melt. It’s primary ingredient is potassium acetate and also has sodium chloride in it. Says it’s aviation grade runway de icing technology. Pet safe, has corrosion inhibitors, bio degradable , good to -32c or -26f. Curious to see how it performs. Picked it up more for freezing rain events than anything.

What do you think about mixing calcium chloride flakes in like a 1gal sprayer, mixing it up, and spraying it out? I sell the liquid calcium chloride and works well but i have a customer that has a restaurant and all the customers track in the granular products, however the liquid calcium is priced more expensive for how much he will use for entire winter so I suggested possibly trying to mix some of the dry stuff with water and spraying it. I’m just not sure how it works because I’ve never done it
@pestandlawnginja5 жыл бұрын
It's a great curative solution! It works great. Just be careful with your water to calcium ratio. It can heat up and damage the sprayer if it gets too hot.

My biggest concern would be safe for pets. Even if one didn't work quite as well, I've read some reviews on these burning the feet of their pets. Not sure which is which, so not sure which ones they were complaining about. I'd also be concerned for squirrels, rabbits, etc who might scamper across your driveway, but never be able to let ya know it was in pain.
@pestandlawnginja5 жыл бұрын
The issue lies within the mag chlorides and calcium chlorides that have rapid heat release. It'll even cause human tissue burns. If you follow the instructions it's not a super common problem.

@pestandlawnginja6 жыл бұрын
Great question Gordon. No i have not. According to the label it's calcium magnesium acetate. Formulated to be non corrosive. Keep in mind that ice melts lower the freeze point of water. The thing you need to focus on the most is how low the temps really get in your area then pic the right product. If I were you I wouldn't apply anything if you can help it if your concrete was newly laid.

Hey there! Thanks for your video! I have a question about the magnesium; you said that if you put down too much of it, it can get bad. Would too much of it still burn dog paws ? I'm asking because i went to an outdoors shopping center a week ago and brought my dog along since its a dog friendly space and we walked through a pedestrian path which had some slushy brownish snow leftover on the ground. Seconds after walking on the sidewalk, he started limping intensly until he cried and threw himself on his back, 4 paws in the air. Had to bring him back to my car in my arms (he's a 25 kg Australian shepherd). All this happened inside of a 30 second time lapse. The shopping center told me that it was magnesium so it is not dangerous for animals. What do you think ? Thanks so much !!!!
@pestandlawnginja4 жыл бұрын
It's most likely a correlation. IRS commonly safe for dogs. I've been researching the effects of potassium products and for now the studies suggest it's the safest for pets to be on. Sorry to hear that happened. Super frustrating

This exact thing just happened to one of my pups, I feel so bad and now he is scared to go outside. 😢. I don’t know what happened I bought the magnesium chloride labeled as dog safe. It costed a lot more but I wanted to make sure my babies were safe?? I’m not really sure what happened or what to do I’ve been trying to research for hours and I’m getting absolutely nowhere. Just like with herbicides and fertilizers ... read the label. In a rush last year I bought some ice melt from a big box home improvement store who shall remain nameless and the bag said "concrete safe". I went out and put some down after clearing the driveway and the next big snowstorm when I went to go clear snow I noticed my driveway concrete started flaking off in the exact trouble spots I placed the ice melt. Eventually read the actual label and found out it was magnesium chloride ... sigh. Proven to be one of the most destructive deicing agents for concrete as per studies at Iowa State University and other researchers. They also had some great studies about injuries to turf grass and trees from deicing agents used improperly. You get what you pay for, especially when you rush to throw something down and don't read the label. lib.dr.iastate.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=12369&context=rtd hortnews.extension.iastate.edu/2011/12-7/deicing.html lib.dr.iastate.edu/rtd/11370/

Yes. Lots of controversial arguments with magnesium chloride and the marketing practices. With the studies I made it was extremely important to stay below the max rate.
@888HUSKERS6 жыл бұрын
Pest and Lawn Ginja yeah I was well below max rate but it didn't matter it basically ruined anything it touched. Sometimes a "good deal" at a box store is more than you bargained for. I will never use it ever again after the pitting and flaking I saw it do from 1 application that caused thousands of dollars of damage to my property. I learned the hard way to know what your putting down because not all ice melts are made equal and some in my case have very serious side effects you must be willing to accept as a risk when using.
