Simpsons fanatic Benedict watched over 30 episodes of the annual Simpsons halloween special, Treehouse Of Horror, in order to determine which is the scariest, which is the funniest AND answer the age-old question... is The Simpsons still as good as it was???
The answer... was more surprising than we suspected.

Fun Fact: Nightmare Cafeteria scared me so badly as a kid that school food mildly freaked me out for a while in elementary school Like, I ate it, but it always came with that back of the mind feeling of "What if they are serving up dead students?"

The "Freaks, No Geeks" segment was based on a movie from 1932 called "Freaks". It's famous for being one of the first films to feature people with deformities their characters possess rather than using makeup and perspective tricks. The idea is that the real freaks are the people who treat those with deformities and disabilities like freaks. Fun fact: The conjoined twins in the movie have a horrifying death story - they both died of illness, but within a few days of each other. The twin that lived longer had to carry around her sister's corpse.

Agreed that paralysed homer is the worst segment not because it’s genuinely bad but because it’s a reference to ‘the diving bell and the butterfly’, my least favourite film in my film studies course 😭😭

as someone who pretty much grew up watching the simpsons like every day its interesting how even though i havent seen most episodes in years i still remember most of them quite vividly, the shinning episodes gotta be the most memorable for me as i found willie transforming into the bagpipes monster super scary for some reason, just very uncomfortable

i dont know why but night of the dolphin sticks out as one of the scariest episodes of tv to me as a kid, not even bc of how weirdly violent it was i just would get really unsettled by the idea of dolphins coming back to land to get revenge on humans. i dont think any other treehouse of horror segment filled me with such visceral fear.
