Sounds like a perfect spot for a lobelia!

Are they growing in more damp areas of your property?

The cardinal flower is in areas that tend to hold water better when it rains. The great blue lobelia is in areas with more average soil.

I tried to start these from seeds. I had such a hard time getting them to germinate. Better luck next time

Best luck we have had is by sowing them into flats in the winter and leaving them outside in the cold. This year we had great germination and have well over 300 each of cardinal flower and great blue lobelia planted out into pots. We have a nursery which is why we grow so many.

I had cardinal flower. You’re right, it likes a lot of water and my yard is too dry.

I always find it growing in swamps and along creeks, along with great blue.

@@BackyardEcology Silver Springs park outside Ocala has red and blue. I wanted to bring some home.🥺 They also have wild monkeys roaming along the backwaters of the river. From Tarzan movies filmed there that escaped. I actually got video of them!

Two years ago I planted a few blue lobelias in my garden, now this year they've taken over my whole property! there's about 50 - 75 of them. They're beautiful but how can I keep them from killing off all my other flowers and plants?
@BackyardEcology Жыл бұрын
Lobelia has tiny dust like seeds that disperse readily. The best way to keep it from spreading to places you don't want it to is to remove the flower stalks after the plant has quit flowering.
