Isn't the bitterness because most of the salt sold at wholesale/grocery stores is iodized?
@johnshore3095 Жыл бұрын
Poisoned by iodisation you mean. Best to get some unrefined unfiltered grey sea salt so you can get all the minerals. Blackthorn salt looks more unique artisan than this salt. Me, I use 'Sel De Guérande' from TK Maxx and it's £3.99 a kg. Grey, unrefined and ideal for SHP Self Healers Protocol by Darko Velcek.

love the content but what's not addressed here is that table salt is iodized and that's what's mostly responsible for that bitter taste that noone likes. A comparison to kosher salt would've been much better.
@Phaeton667 Жыл бұрын
I have never ever heard anyone describe a salt as bitter. Oh well, people need to make a living haha
@TundieRice Жыл бұрын
I mean, iodized table salt (which is the salt that most Americans are used to) definitely has a bitter taste to it. A better comparison would be to sea salt (or even kosher salt) that don’t have additives like iodine. I would imagine that tasting the salt from this video against American table salt would make the Welsh salt taste much less bitter, but I do think the test might be a bit disingenuous, considering sea salt and kosher salt would not have the bitter taste from the iodine.
I'll take this video's claims with a grain of salt.

@jdkgcp Жыл бұрын
Exactly. There's literally nothing "bitter" at all about Salt. And all salt...tastes like salt. The only difference is style, size and texture. But it all tastes exactly the same.
@TundieRice Жыл бұрын
@@jdkgcp Not true. American table salt (and many other countries’ table salt I would imagine) has iodine added to it, which can *definitely* give it an “off” taste. So if you’re used to iodized table salt, I can definitely imagine that you’d taste a difference in real, unadulterated salt. In fact, there are often a lot of chemicals that exist in “pure salt” (either naturally or artificially) that can add a different flavor (either positively or negatively. For example, many artisanal types of salt like “black salt” can contain compounds (such as sulfurous compound that make black salt taste “eggy” that would make it *not 100% NaCl.* I personally use Morton’s kosher salt, which doesn’t have any additives, so I really wonder if I’d taste much difference in this Welsh sea salt, but if I did, I’d imagine it’d be because of some naturally-occurring minerals that naturally existed in the seawater that was used to extract the salt. I’d definitely be willing to give it a try compared to a pure sea salt/kosher salt in a blind taste-test, but it’s still pretty damn silly to compare it to an iodized table salt like they did in this video.

100% not true the water thing I get but salt is not in that same boat
@alexissey4023 Жыл бұрын
The water thing is not true, heck even Food Theory did a video about how different water tastes. I was even invited by some friends to have a fun water taste test (for what they could afford, we’re recently graduated college students) and the water genuinely tasted different! I’m not saying Himalayan salt is superior or anything cause it’s more expensive, it’s really more expensive cause of the color, it’s actually more impure than other salts. But there is a difference in taste with some things, like some salts and waters.
@Gabbro_1 Жыл бұрын
@@alexissey4023 yeah obviously stuff tastes different, my point is like water, the different tastes of these salts are minor changes in mineral content, and to claim there is a best salt is crazy. Should we start cooking our pasta in Evian? if we blind taste tested expensive salt and cheap salt of comparable grain size, no one is accurately saying which the more expensive salt is. just like water, no one could say what the most expensive bottled water is blind.
@Gabbro_1 Жыл бұрын

I dunno the "best salt in the world" is subjective. There are plenty of great salts out there that consider themselves "the best salt in the world" so a company stated themselves as the best in the world is just marketing. Sure it's definitely better than table salt, but compared to all the other artisanal salts in the world, that consider themselves "the best salt in the world" how does one make that decision?
