Thanks so much for this video. I always got confused why they call it Royalty free & therefore didn't want to submit my music to these platforms. now I get it! Thanks!

There is nothing wrong with submitting your music to royalty-free libraries. Is the easiest way to not only get started in music licensing but to earn money with your music.

"Practice" and make your bones with the Royalty Free sites, and then take on the Production Music Libraries. Probably some of the best advice that I've heard from all of the Sync Licensing Music courses and videos that I've watched.

Thank you for another explanation of the differences. With every video it gets more and more clear :-) The whole music licensing thing is really hard to understand sometimes. Especially for the customers to understand why they have to pay backend royalties to a PRO. Thank you Daniel for your YT-Channel, it is really great to get so much info from your videos! Move on! :-)

Thank you for nice explanation. I think there is one more music licencing area - it's when you make a digital distribution do streaming services like Spotify and iTunes. Is it OK in terms of copyright when you have a song at Pond5 and Spotify at the same time? And in first place, does it make sense to do a digital distribution of your stock music, just to promote your brand and maybe get to some playlist?
@StockMusicLicensing
@StockMusicLicensing 4 жыл бұрын
Having your music on Spotify, iTunes or any digital distribution services is not music licensing. The are some who offer that like CDbaby, but it's a separate thing. To answer your question, yes, you can sell Stock music and have it on iTunes.

My question, which I seem not to be able to answer on KZbin, is what is better for a short film. Using originally produced music for your short film or one of these online sources, weather royalty free or production music library.

It's up to you. But the reasons for using stock music is because is more affordable than custom music.

So do you still register your music with a P.R.O. while you upload it to a royalty free lib? Can you upload the same tracks on a royalty free lib as well as a production library?

Hello my friend!. I have been following your channel for some time, the content you share seems very interesting to me. I am from Venezuela, I would like to know how I can talk to you, I have some doubts about some musical themes that I have and that I would like to upload to audiojungle or pond5. Thank you very much for the work you do here on KZbin. Regards. Antonio.

I have a question to you, Daniel: In the video you said, that there are composers doing royalty-free music only and other doing production music only. And you are in the middle doing both? Would you mind to tell us, which production music libraries you are composing for?

Great video! But still confusing to me as far as royalty earnings go... when I think uploading my music to a royalty free music market place, how come I’m still able to make money on the backend with performance royalties through the PRO’s? If that’s the case, then what’s the difference to a production music library when they get me a placement deal when it comes to backend royalty money?
@StockMusicLicensing
@StockMusicLicensing 4 жыл бұрын
It's the only thing that they have in common. You can still sell music on royalty free libraries and get performance royalties, if you are affiliated with a P.R.O. Believe it or not, some composers sell music on royalty free libraries without being with a P.R.O. and it's kind of optional. On the other hand, you must be with a P.R.O if you want to join a production music library.

Daniel, are you copyrighting all of your work before you upload to Audiojungle or similar? Are you ever copyrighting the songs you sell as stock?

@StockMusicLicensing
@StockMusicLicensing 4 жыл бұрын
I might do a video about it, but, can I ask you why would you want to copyright your stock music? Nobody is going to steal it. And even if someone does and claims it as their music, you can still prove that the music is yours in different ways. Copyright comes in handy when you are in court in a dispute. Copyright issues could arise when someone has written or recorded music that resembles music that is already protected, or having music that is identical or similar to previously released song. Like what happens with celebrities and famous people. Hope this helps Jeff

@@StockMusicLicensing That makes sense. I grew up writing songs in bands and everyone always said, "You have to copyright your music!" so I just assumed it was the same for stock. Thank you!
@charleswettish8701

I know it's 3 years later. But the way to think about copyrighting is this. Copyrights make it easier to prove in court that a piece of music belongs to you, but you can still prove it without the copyright. This used to be very important before digital uploads. These days, with dated uploads, and evidence on hard-drives, etc., it's very easy to show that a piece of music was created by you if you ever needed to do so, in court. I would imagine it's very rare that someone tries to steal a piece of music these days, because it is just too easy to prove who had it first.@@jeffwegrzyn8947
