I would add that Top Controls, in my experience, are more suseptible to failure due to moisture getting into the control surfaces or the circuitry as steam and water condensation occur at the top of the door, right were the controls are located. I have had a really well performing Frigidaire dishwasher with top controls. These top controls were being infiltrated with moisture within a year or two. Eventually we lost the ability to use some of the advanced features such as 'Sanitize' or being able to use every feature on every setting (e.g. you could use heated dry on only normal after a time, when the machine was designed to allow heated dry on Normal, heavy, and Eco modes.) No kids or dogs in our house, not that they were an issue in the first place... its called discipline people, learn it, live it. love it.

With top control - are you able to reach in under your counter top when the door is closed? We often will be running a cycle and then someone needs to take a shower and with our house you need to make sure the dishwasher or the washing machine are not running. So just curious if you can reach the panel to turn off. My counter top is the older fiberboard and comes down over the edge of the cabinets.

@Friends46488 Love it! Just very important to remember! No Labels! For example if you're washing a restaurant plastic reusable food tray with cover, be sure to peel off all labels first. They can break your filter.

I'm new to the world of dishwashers, so I hope I find it user-friendly. Thanks for the tip about labels. Well noted. Lots of people complain about dishes not drying very well in most dishwashers in general; how do you find the drying capability of this model? Thanks.

@Friends4648 Just make sure you peel off any / all labels. Yes everything comes fully dry except tupperware which you can kinda put in the hand dishes drying rack with ease. You want to use Prowash which saves water + has the best drying capability. Press Extended dry button for an extra 6 minutes of heated dry. Enjoy!

Thank you for your video. In your opinion is the 604 worth the extra money? Would you rate it over 404? Also, does the fan motor used for drying in the 604 model go bad after some time?

Thanks for the video. Question: Is their a number or letter in the series info that identifies the country in which the dishwasher is made. Anything from china I automatically remove from my considerations. Am looking at the KDFE204.

My toddlers are always on any buttons they could find and trust me top control are a necessity and not just an aesthetic choice. So many times have I or my wife find that dishwasher did not run its full cycle coz kids keep pressing the buttons mid way.

just had the 404 installed and I am having Costco come and get this cheaply made appliance out of my home. The door is so cheap it flexes when you open and close it. This was a direct replacement for a 6 yer old Kitchenaid which started smoking and burnt up. This unit feels so much cheaper, it is somewhat narrower so there are gaps on the side and it is just not what Kitchenaid used to be. Oh yeah, this has a steam release slot on the front and there are water droplets all over the door after each wash. Installer said he would come back and try to fix it but it just feels so heap I don't think its worth it

I went from a 12 year old Bosch to a KitchenAid KDTM404KPSO and I wish I just fixed my old Bosch. We were excited to get clean dishes, but only got our wallet cleaned out. Big let down😤

Oh No!!! We have a Bosch 300 series, but are moving and we couldn't get/obtain the Bosch because they are redoing something with their machines.....so we picked out the KitchenAid 604 series. :/

I have used my kitchenaid for a year now and we love it. Silent, cleans well, makes good use of space inside and it’s good looking. May I ask why you and the other comments aren’t happy with it? Have they had failures in some way?

@@Javii96 it doesn’t clean as well as our old one. Dishes come out spotty , food will be stuck to dishes etc. we are not using it any different than our old one. We make sure it’s clean and put in good detergents. I agree it’s quiet and the aesthetics are there .

Hi myself have a KitchenAid and I would like to know what is the different washing cycles I know express wash washes things quicker but I don’t see a time on the dishwasher itself on the new dishwasher that we have. We have the third rack and it is nice. But I’m still unclear as to how much time it takes to do it like an express wash I believe it could be an hour, but there’s no clock when you put it to Xpress wash So if someone can read this message and get back to me, that would be appreciated. Hi, the 'mid cleaning arm' is just below the 2nd rack, the 'upper cleaning arm' is at the very top of the celing, and is a mini-plastic blade.

Hey Fzr, hope you're well. We bought the KDTM404KPS and it comes with the Advanced Clean Water Wash System which is its own self-cleaning filter. But its not perfect. does not a little bit of maintenace by opening the four screws on the bottom of the inside, and cleaning out any sand / other things found there. Otherwise we love it. The 'older style spin out mesh filter' you want to empty often but is much longer-lasting than ours. Unless cleaned every month which I do. Good answer.

The truth about Whirlpool built appliances is the build quality sucks donkey ass. Not going to last even close to 10 years. My 3 year old Miele has 7 years left on the balance of a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty that was included in the purchase price!

I'm concerned about this. We have the KitchenAid double wall oven. We love it, but it's only 3 years old. Our Bosch Dishwasher was broken when someone tripped over the door while it was open. We replaced it with the KitchenAid dishwasher and I'm really hoping we don't regret not just getting a similarly priced Bosch. It just looks so nice when it matches the oven.

If you could’ve just open the door, and pointed to the sticker that has the model number, this would’ve been so much easier. Then listening to your long explanation about the model number. I am certain nobody cares what it means, we just need to know where to find it

I disagree. Knowing what the numbers and letters mean is very helpful when you're scanning through 100+ dishwashers online. It's also just interesting. Whereas finding the sticker is simple and just common sense. I think this video is great.
