@@tiattahiscupcakecandykatan2453 Because the dog was the focus of the discussion at the moment the call ended. the T1000 wanted to find out why. And it was easier to kill the dog to get it. Also because if the dog kept at barking too long, someone might complain. And as powerful as the T1000 is, a single platoon or company could easily obliterate it from long range. So keeping secret is important.

@@NitpickingNerd The LAPD arrives 10-20 minutes later to check on John (interrogation scene at the Hospital informing Sarah that they spotted the Terminator at the mall through surveillance photos and the Foster parents were murdered). Also how will that derail T1000's thinking when his priority to take out Sarah before T800 and John rescues her. If the Terminator says T1000 is more advanced (going to Dyson's house before heading to Cyberdine), he'll know Terminator isn't going to do difficult side missions to jeopardize the safety of John.

And what I always wondered in this scene was if the terminators can mimic the voice of people, how can neither one tell the other is faking it? That was clever, but still...

@@bbartelster it doesnt say "secret stuff from mom"...it says "messages from mom". the scene isnt totally necessary to get the movie's plot, but it gives further interesting aspects about the story. it 1. shows that even despite all the bad reputation his mom has going for herself, John didnt fully give up on her and tried to stay in contact with her, 2. it shows that he had to hide the messages so his foster parents dont see them (they probably want to isolate John from her as much as they can, thinking she's a bad influence on him), and 3. it shows how the T-1000 got a hint as to her whereabouts (the Pasadena asylum)

If John hadn't called, we wouldn't have had Cameron delivering a masterclass in exposition. I'm serious, so many blockbusters nowadays fail at exposition and make it boring and meaningless. Here we have exposition, entertainment, plot moving, character moment (John is a nice kid deep down) and a Terminator duel and yes, a scene that is legendary decades later. Not bad for 2 minutes of information dump.

Yeah, the quasi-emotional responses from the Terminators in the first two movies are often overlooked. The T-1000 regularly demonstrates contempt for people over and above what's necessary. While _T3: Rise of the Machines_ wasn't a great movie, it was bizarre how know-nothing fans got mad about the TX in that movie doing the exact same thing the T-1000 does here.

Robert Patrick honestly didn't have to do much for this role, just stay stern faced and emotionless. But he does it so well! His mannerisms, his movements, his expressions, they go straight past emotionless and all the way into mechanical, which of course is perfect. There is never a moment in this film where you're in doubt that you're looking at a robot and not a man. Mix in that ominous soundtrack, and you have a terrifying villain that has stood the test of time for 3 decades.

I love how the T-1000 was sensing the environment in John's room. It really makes you think that the liquid metal technology heavily relies on touch and close contact to analyze it's surroundings whereas the T-800 heavily lies on the cameras in its eyes and uses optical analysis instead of sensory.

Yes true, however the T-1000 still uses optical hud detection, so technically it can see of course! But yes, it's able to sense and detect it's surroundings WAY better than the T-800. This was cut because the T-1000 touching everything to learn about it "looked silly". But I think it adds to the subtle 'wrongness' you pick up from it. We see room searches all the time, ranging from methodically rifling through each drawer and looking under rugs for hidden trap doors to outright ransacking. The T-1000 does... none of that. Instead it very carefully runs its fingers over every single thing in that room, even when it seems to serve no purpose. Because it's not just looking for clues to where else its target might go. It's learning everything that's possible to learn about John Connor without talking directly to him. Which is terrifying.

Can you believe that Cameron wanted Billy Idol to play the part? If it hadn't been for the fact that Idol was in a horrific motorcycle accident, then this movie would have turned out much differently. Robert Patrick got the role of a lifetime, and he took the ball and ran with it. Even being so young at the time, he was mature enough, with a good head on his shoulders, to realize that he had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and he did everything perfectly to make that role his own. God bless him for it.

Apparently in the original script, there was a shot where T1000 passes through a hallway with an open door that looks into the bathroom, and you could see Janelle dead in the shower. That would have been a really macabre touch, but in a lot of ways its worse to not see her at all. I also love how Patrick moves in this extended scene. There is no awkward, robotic jankiness to his movements like a machine, he moves slowly and yet with a lot of brevity, almost making him look like a ghost than a robot.

I love how John himself realises that he’s talking to the T-1000 upon noticing how nice “Janelle” was. He knew that she and him shared a mutual dislike of each other therefore it was a dead giveaway. Even the dog knew something wasn't right and his barking further confirmed his suspicions before the Terminator played the Wolfie trick on ''Janelle''. In one of the deleted scenes, you can see the T-1000 walking through the house and looking into the bathroom during that moment. You can’t see it but it is implied that the real Janelle is lying there dead with her feet sticking out of the door, presumably killed when taking a shower (Psycho anyone?)

John's clever and streetwise, which would serve him well as a leader. The Terminator picked up on John's doubt and executed a standard identity verification technique-an innocuous statement that the T1000 wouldn't know but that Janelle would catch and correct instantly.

His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. This is the Gospel which means the Good News. Those that reject redemption will go to hell. 1 John 1:8-10 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. John 1:1-3,10 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. It's actually pretty subtle and clever, it has to do with how impactful those deaths are. Killing the dog was senseless violence, and the dog didn't deserve it, so we don't see the death, only hear it, but it also doesn't linger on the fact very long, because while the audience doesn't want to see the dog die, we also don't really have much attachment. We get the reverse with the asshole foster dad: He's built up to be a jerk, so his death is gratuitous and "rewarding". At the end of the movie, we have the opposite, where we get to watch the terminator die, but it's long and drawn out, because it's emotional, and we have an investment in that character.

In a book t1000 was scanning the items with his fingers, so fingers where changing color and texture in process( like in the end of the movie, on the factory) Looks like they filmed that part, but didn't add special effects due to a complexity.

@xtrmst_01 Eh.....I mean, sure, he could have gone for anyone, but you have to admit that the actors he DID choose were pretty damn good in this film. Not to mention the Biker (the late Robert Winley) and the guy who played the bar owner with the shotgun and sunglasses (the late Peter Schrum). In this scene his voice disguise when used in the first movie was creepy as hell, like when he pretended to be Sarah's mother to trap her but in this scene he used the same ability to trick the T1000 and thus PROTECT the boy.

That's because they were good parents, we just think they weren't cause John didn't want them, despite the fact the foster parents kept him around even with all the times he would get in trouble with the law which is why they weren't surprised by the T1000 dressed as a cop coming to their door and they were calm and understanding. John was the problem not them, they did their best for him but he still didn't want it however deep down he knew they were good people and so he tries to warn them of the danger stalking him.

@@TheCoppoy If it calculated that doing so would increase its chances of eliminating its target, I would say yeah, it probably would. I suppose it would depend on the situation. In most cases, I would imagine that the Terminator would determine that it's easier to just eliminate everyone in the house, and then ambush it's target.

I love the scene of the T-1000 going through the bedroom. He's scanning by sampling everything via physical contact. Also a good show of why we didn't get the Terminator-vision perspective with him, he doesn't have a visual scanner like that it's all through tactile contact.

I’m very sure that as a more advanced terminator, he also has an optical scanner as well, which would explain why he still scans areas by moving his head/eyes.
