What's the FASTEST way across London? Car v.s. Bike v.s. Tube

If car and e-bike both take the same amount of time then the e-bike wins because it's less expensive and easier to park.

I'm not a huge fan of cars in the city but unfortunately your logic is flawed, the car carried two people, the bike only one. So the car wins due to the extra payload. Also the cyclist was worn out the car driver was fresh, the cyclist even though riding an electric bike was sweaty the car driver fresh. The ebike needs more power to make it a viable option. Would have been interesting to see the same journey by Escooter. Also charge time the ebike will run out of power much quicker than the car so more power and better range needs to be addressed. If after doing the journey you then only have enough to get back or not, then you need to take into account the charge time needed to be ready for your next journey. Unfortunately car still wins, like it or not, unless the battery is removable for the bike.

@@flitsies cycle lanes do acccomodate two bikes or one tandem so argument regarding 1 vs 2 people is flawed. When you carry 4 people in a car, that's fine - drive. Most commuters do drive alone though.

@@GregVidua Yep I agree except we are talking about thus test, in this test there were two people in the car, but only one person on the bike. Had the bike been a tandem then yes the bike could have compared but it wasn't they used separate bikes, so it didn't compare appropriately. Also the tube guy should had either a folding bike or kick scooter of course it would be better with an escooter but they are still illegal. As I said though would have been interesting to see had they included a motorcycle. But car may have turned up last but in this case would be more favoured due to the extra capacity, the bike is only for one, the car up to 5, so if you meet someone you know you might offer them a ride, you can't do that with a bike. Perhaps with a pedicab it might have been more realistic and comparable.

I know that tube route. If they actually went there directly instead of pretending to get lost and going the long way around, they would have been there 5 to 10 minutes earlier than the others. The tube is probably also the most reliable. The car could have easily been half-an-hour later depending on traffic and the e-bike is only practical when the weather permits. You also have to park the car and that could be tricky and expensive. Personally I'd take the e-bike if the weather's ok and I didn't have to look smart that the end of my journey. It's a much nicer way to travel.

@@ewdack Absolutely right. But also if only one person is travelling, but then parking the bike could be a huge risk of it getting nicked. The journey would have been better on an escooter with no parking issues just take it with you and put by your seat, also a great talking point especially for someone who you meet that may not ride.

A clear victory for public transport.if he hadnt have been in the wrong place or knew where the underground was at the start. To have made it fair the race should have started and finished at the tube station and not made the poor guy run part of the way .

Why not add an E-Scooter, moped + E-moped, medium trained non-E racing bike driver, experienced bike messenger and a parcour+subway+bus runner, and then call it "pr-E-ium rush" (see the movie) And add some map with the relative progress of the combatants, at least for some (comparable) checkpoints. Learning from Top Gear and Mythbusters is not forbidden.

To be fair, riding the bike at full effort isn't something that anyone would want to do. The car won due to no stress and little effort.

OK first off you do realise eating while driving is an offense which could see you get points on your license don't you? I think you missed a trick here OK car, electric bike, what about motorcycle, and also with the tube even though at present you can't use an electric scooter a kick scooter would have made his trip even faster. The car gets stuck in traffic but oddly enough there didn't seem to be that much traffic on that day, usually there is a lot of traffic between those two points under normal conditions. Bikes don't have a problem with parking but if they bring in a system of registration you could find that bikes will end up having similar issues with parking that motorcycles have now, no reason in the world for parking issues with motorcycles as they don't take up huge amounts of room like cars but oddly enough motorcycle parking can be an issue that makes them take longer to get to their destination now, registration of bicycles could see exactly the same issues hit them also.

Not sure if you are in the UK but Rule 148 of the UK Highway Code states that safe driving and riding needs concentration, so all distractions should be avoided - drinking or eating it's not a legal offense whilst driving. It's an advisory only, however if you are sufficiently distracted to cause or initiate an accident then you could be charged with careless driving, as you have stated. Simple is drive safe folks.

@@indobleh Well yes you are correct but people have been charged one notable case a man ait a kit kat and the police charged him with as you say being distracted ie undue care and attention. It's one of those things where proving you were not distracted if accused can be very difficult, as your focus would be on the food and not on the road. So yes you can eat while driving but you could easily find yourself struggling to defend your position that you were not distracted.
