Fun fact : in Tunisia we have to study about Carthage each year . we have full about how genius Hannibal is . I m starting to feel like they ran out of history lessons . One time we studied about ww1 and 2 it was so disappointing. Like we only talked about how it started and how it ended . I left when I was 14, and now live in Australia, but yeah, we learned a lot about carthage to the point I kind of got bored, and my school also talked a lot about the early arab conquests and the Fatamids. When I moved to australia tho, we covered a lot more western history, so I got the best of both worlds!

The Sandwich Islands are actually part of the US. This was the colonial name for the island group now known as Hawaii. Hence, the South Sandwich Islands are much further south and in a different ocean.

I mean to be fair most vessels don't bother with the Drake Passage anyways, especially given the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel exist, despite both being pretty narrow they are far safer than going south of Cape Horn.

The last *big* place discovered was Severnaya Zemlya (making school project abt it), but from my research the most recently discovered place was Oodaaq island in Greenland, but *technically,* some random unnamed island was formed in late 2023 near Japan, but I don't count that mainly because it only recently appeared. Antarctica was definitely *NOT* the last. :D
