Captain America made me better when I was a kid. When I was a young kid, I was very sick, and bedridden at the hospital for days. I was very sad, scared, and alone at the room. Next to me was a newspaper article and with nothing better to do, I took it up and read it. That's when I saw him. There was a photograph of "Captain America", it was a marketing strategy for the movie "Captain America: The Winter Solider (2014)". But in my eyes, it was filled with wonder; in my mind, I am seeing living proof of a superhero in the real world. I eventually got better, but by the time I got home, I became enamored with the world of Marvel Comics and their superheroes; and, despite my young self unable to comprehend very complicated words, I still remembered the name Captain America. Nobody should underestimate Captain America because even when the world feels jaded and bleak, Captain America will at least fight the good fight to bring hope and happiness to all, even to a young kid bedridden in a hospital.

Is Captain America iconic and popular enough to have his classic comicbook costume adapted in the mcu?(Before you ask, yes it matters) No. Superman and Spiderman were iconic enough to have their classic costumes adapted in the MCU. And I don’t know if you noticed calling Cap Marvel’s Superman isn’t much of a compliment because Superman’s not nearly as popular as he used to be. So yes it is very fair to say nobody cared about Captain America before the MCU.

I remember JM DeMatteis described Steve wonderfully and it was basically like this(apologies because this is going to be very long): "Rogers was the George Bailey of super heroes: a simple, honest man who always struggled to do the right thing, no matter how difficult it was. He wasn’t concerned with ideologies or the politics of the moment. He was concerned with the American Dream. He believed, to the core of his being, in what America could be. Rogers was certainly well aware of the many times the United States had failed to live up to its own ideals-and those failures disheartened him-but he never gave up believing, because his faith and hope weren’t invested in any elected official or political party. They were invested in the spiritual core of America: something deep and true and unchanging that lay beneath world affairs and shifting political currents. The more I got to know Steve, the more I understood that Captain America’s greatest power wasn’t the strength he gained from the super-soldier formula: it was the depth of his compassion, his caring. His belief in the revolutionary power of human decency."

As a few years went on I started feeling that he didn't measure up to other heroes I liked, such as Superior Spider-Man, and that he wasn't as deep; but then as I read more and more Cap stuff I realized he was probably one of the deepest characters in all of comics, and not only did he start to reflect my own personal beliefs and principles, but he simply felt like a kind man I'd love to be friends with, or even just shake his hand, once, and remember it forever.

I have been a Captain America fan since I was five years years old in 1977 For me, Captain America represents the dream, the upstart nation that said it that it would be ruled by its people instead of its leaders. He represents the dream of equal opportunity for all people, because he was 4F and unable to fight and they made it so that he could contribute to the war. he represents the idea of America, the idea of the three in alienable rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That’s why he’s seen with a shield instead of a gun, the protector of liberty, not the enforcer of it. Captain America is a leader, many heroes with far more power than he, have said that they would follow him into hell. The idea that America can lead the world by example, that we can be the dream so that others can see the dream. To me we need Captain America now more than ever.

I believe that Captain America essentially represents a modern re-interpretation of Antigoneism, especially in *Civil War*, where his stance mirrors that of Antigone burying Polynices. I think one of the many reasons people misunderstand Cap nowadays is because of X-men writers. In his own comics, Avengers comics, Spider-Man comics, Deadpool comics etc, he's portrayed right most of the time. He's a symbol of what America should be at its very best. That extends to other pieces of non-X-men media too. But whenever Cap shows up in an X-men story. He just becomes a braindead government stooge who never questions orders and is possibly biased against mutants. Because the X-men writers need an antagonist who represents the government and are too stupid to realize that's not what Cap is at all.

About a 100 years ago (so 1924), I and others wouldn’t even be able to go to the bathroom unless it was segregated and poorly designed for “my kind”. Most men were working themselves to death to provide (give it about a decade and they’ll probably die in war or get captured for worse), and most woman are stuck at home to provide, and even for women that did work, again it’s not like it was grand for anyone if you had bad working conditions and no unity (again, give it about a decade more and they’ll probably have to flee or else be captured for worse in war). The further you go back in history from there, the more things suck for everyone, especially if you aren’t the prefered race. This is why even back then, many people of all groups had to fight for a better tomorrow in some sort of way. Captain America regularly breaks orders for the same reason Captain Kirk regularly brakes orders: he sees them as immoral. If Captain Kirk is told to let people die, even though he has it in his power to prevent it, he will invariably say, “ screw it, I am going to do it anyway, and I will take the consequences.” Captain America does the same thing. And the reason they do this is that it is good for character development in storytelling. If you are telling a conflict-based story, which all comic books and actin shows inherently are, then you have to have some thing that is keeping you from easily achieving your goals. These are usually external threats, or sometimes just dumb luck, like bad weather or malfunctions, but it has a lot more dramatic impact when the opposition is coming from within their own organization. Having Captain Kirk go up against Starfleet is always going to be more impressive than having him go up against the klingons because it shows that his soul does not belong to his boss. At the end of the day, he is always going to try to do a thing that is right even if it cost him considerably to do so. The same is true of Captain America. While this doesn’t make any Real world sense - both would be cooling their heels in Gitmo - it is a very good very easy very effective way to build character in fictional story. Characters who are always on the side of the Angels and happened to work for an organization that is itself always on the side of the Angels are boring and shallow. And this is why that trope happens so very often in virtually all media. For me what Captain America represents is culture shock. He is practically an alien with values that date from several generations before our our own. In some iterations, this is represented as an idealized past that the damn fool kids today can’t understand. In other versions, they do a better job of showing the advantages and disadvantages of this as well. Personally, my favorite version is in the ultimates Where continually hangs around at World War II veterans hospitals because the elderly people they’re better than he understands the young people around him. “ he looks like Brad Pitt, but he sounds like my grandpa” one character says. And while he represents the best of his generation -for instance he is not at all racist, even though most people from his era were - He also represents a certain level of brashness that is no longer appropriate. For instance, he breaks Hank jaw when he discovers that Hank is beating his wife around. So for me, the character works best when he is always fish out of water, a person who represents both where we have them and where we are going, even if he really just does not fit in

I'm gonna be honest with y'all, if Captain America was real and got unfrozened in (let says) 2018 or maybe even today, he would say that America has gone woke or something. So yeah, being Captain America isn't about being a perfect soldier it's about being a good man.

Great video

You said captain America is a bad soldier but I think it's the opposite. Cap is actually the ideal soldier, even the US military tells soldiers that they shouldn't blindly follow orders, they should follow orders they think are correct (even if they do act in opposition to that). Lest we forget; Nuremberg showed that "just following orders" is not an excuse to ignore morality.

Spiderman is the modern version of Captain America. While Thor is the much older version.🤔🤔

Its just people, and since they coexist I wouldn't say ones more modern, they kinda showcase ideas from different eras but theyre people and people have come in these and many other varieties throughout history

The video is a great synthesis about what captain america represents. However, I think that there's a small error there, about the part that "people should follow their own moral values", because Steve Rogers isn't a moral subjetivist, he in fact belivies in ethical realism (moral values are objectives and universals, being present in the nature world), and that's why he has a side of "authoritarian" (according to leftist dumb analisys), the reason he combat is for the hope that people could live in objective virtuosity instead of false interpretations of "what is moral" from groups of power that are objectivily bad. Then, that's why he can even fight against other heroes when they´re near an utilitarian and machiavelic point of view of the ethics (like Carol Danvers or Tony Stark in both Civil Wars), or even against the ones with a relativist and subjetivist view of moral values that are near nihilism (like Frank Castle, or the Illuminatis in Secret Wars of 2015)

Does Captain America actually do anything to directly help Americans and their problems? Because it seems to me like he, a long with most Marvel/DC superheroes, he just exists to maintain the status quo.
@CannedIdeasАй бұрын
I mean shows and comics Cap is seen helping normal people when he isn't fighting bad guys. He also goes out and talks to everyday people and especially people who serve the public like fire fighters, Police, etc
@BlackPineNJАй бұрын
Yes the MCU just doesn’t show that properly for any character and that’s the most widely consumed version.
