I wanted to talk about Iron Man because as of late I have been really relating to his struggles. Iron Man is one Marvel's most flawed characters but I think the lessons that we can learn from him is huge.

Dude I love how you really understood Iron-Man as a character. Stan Lee literally said that he made Iron-Man to be this lovable unlikable/flawed character. if you read his origin its no wonder Tony turned out the way he did and most of his trauma comes from his abusive dad. also i hate he gets a bad rep for what he did in Civil War and people claim that he was ''Character Assassinated" in that event when if you actually read the comic he was literally against the superhuman regristration act but bc a civillian called him and a bunch of heroes out he felt emotionally guilty and after that moment he was all for the Regristration Act and he has literally been against and on the run from the goverment (Armor Wars for an Example)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Iron Man pretty much throw up his hands when spiderman confronted him about aunt may’s shooting after peter revealed his identity? Also Tony helped build a T-800 Thor clone that ended up killing a hero as well? I can understand wanting to regulate heroes because of a group that was more interested in fame than heroism getting innocents killed, but Tony was just as problematic during civil war. I’ve always felt that comic tony was a jerk. A jerk who wants to do the right thing, but a jerk nonetheless. P.S. not trying to sound like a jerk. Genuinely open to feedback.
@T3aseW1thease10 күн бұрын
@@ihavenoideaatall7381 I mean sort of but not really since Peter didnt really confront him in a talkative way he just broke into Stark Tower trying to find Tony and blaming him for Aunt May getting shot even though he's the one that decided to leave and switch sides all bc heroes were being Imprisoned in the Negative Zone even though if he had put them in a normal prison they would of just broken out. and while Tony is semi responsible for Goliaths Death, the blame shouldnt go entirety to him since it was also made by Reed and I think Hank Pym and its not like they ever intended for it to go rogue it just sort of did.

I love this video, however I do have to disagree with you on one thing. Tony revealing his identity in the MCU as Iron man, I think a lot of people missed the real point of that which is that Tony takes accountability for his actions, that’s the lesson he learns in that movie. Him revealing himself as iron man wasn’t for attention but it was him saying he will take accountability for iron man the way he couldn’t for his weapons. Just my opinion. Ps. The whole message of Tony and this video is incredible props man🎉

Tony Stark is difficult to write if written well he can be seen as a badass rogue with a heart of gold, but if written badly he can be seen as a jarheaded jackass with zero self awareness or integrity.

The Iron Man movies may be what introduce me (and most of the public) to the character, but it was reading stories like Demon in the Bottle, The Mask of Iron Man and Armor Wars (the latter being my favorite Iron Man story btw) that made Tony Stark one my favorite super heroes of all. In the wrong hands, Tony can be written like a irredimable unlikable jerk, but, with the right writer, he can be a very relatable character, who is flawed but not heartless and is driven by guilt and desire to be better
@xavierjuno45726 күн бұрын
I mean considering that in the earlier comics he was always struggling with his health and the fact that everytime he wanted a normal life something else goes wrong, then yeah it's no wonder he turned to alcoholism for a short while

@@xavierjuno4572 Indeed. The fact that Tony has to rely on his armor to keep his heart beating may have made him more empathetic and wanting to use the little time he has to help other but, also can make reckless when comes to his health, since, in Tony's eyes, his death will happen soon or later. In some ways, Iron Man struggle aren't just against arrogance and the sins of his past but also against depression and mortality.

@@mayotango1317 Tony Stark was under the effect of Extremis in Civil War, and he still does feel the effects (a little less) today. Tony Stark is not a typical superhero like captain America. If you can’t accept differences, the problem is in you. Besides, Civil War has make a big damage in the character and complete change the way how the authors and the fandom understand Tony Stark. Civil War is probably the biggest defamation propaganda that I have seen in a comic book.

Iron Man is not just my favorite superhero but he is my favorite character in all of fiction. A lot of people grew up watching or reading Spider-Man or Batman related comics or movies but for me it was him. The first movie I watched was the first Iron Man and ever since then I have had a connection with this character and tried understanding him to the last detail. It’s heartbreaking seeing people misunderstand the core of Iron Man which is self improvement, and instead see him as anyone but trying to be better. Not to mention writers for the different characters like Daredevil or Spider-Man almost ALWAYS get his character wrong by writing him so out of character. I’m very happy someone else knows these core principles with Tony because it was starting to feel like I was the only one who gave a darn about this character and knew what he was about. So thank you, and I hope to see what else you do In the future of your channel

8:11 Good to know I'm not the only one who consider Iron Man 3 the best part of Tony's arc in the MCU. Many people complained about "Tony barely wearing his armor in the movie" and in the process they miss the whole point of the story. For Tony, being Iron Man is his chance for redemption, to be a super hero. His armor isn't just a weapon but also a tool to make him feel strong and protected from his problems, both physically and also emotionally. So when his armor gets damage, it puts Tony in a situation where he can no longer rely on the thing he became so dependent. He has to use his true powers: His brain, courage and love for his Pepper and his friends. Those are the factors that help Tony face his fears. It's Tony who makes Iron Man a great hero, not the other way around.

Spider Man and Iron Man have the same essence of a super hero driven by guilt and a struggle with responsibility. I just think Iron Man is more nuanced (not necessarily better, but still) and I don't think people appreciate it as much as they should

I agree so much about how Tony should have stuck with the secret identity a bit first. In the comic, it comes across as a MUCH more selfless act to save the planet multiple times as Iron man and take none of the personal credit. In the movies...it gets a bit muddier. Like his ego is more of a stepping stone in the movies.

The MCU and the comics show to different ways of growth. The MCU focuses more on Tony growing as an individual and becoming more of a symbol to people. While the comics focused more on Tony's own self redemption.

Also a little Unrelated but can you make a video about who is Marvels true Big 3? Because there seems to be this common misconception that prior to the MCU Characters like Captain America, Iron-Man, Thor and the Avengers weren’t popular and that Marvel “real big 3’’ was Spider-Man, Hulk, Wolverine and the X-Men when in reality this is far from the truth, Its honestly really baffling to me that people actually think that this is true, the Avengers have literally been a staple of Marvel Comics for decades way before the MCU was a thing and they, Spider-Man and the FF4 were Marvel’s Big 3. The Original 60s Run of the X-Men unlike the Avengers sucked, In fact it got so bad that It was canceled after 66 Issues due to nobody liking them and low sales and afterwards for like 5 Years the X-Men were just there and Spider-Man, FF4 and the Avengers continued to be Marvel’s Big 3. It wasnt until 1975 after the release of Giant Size X-Men #1 where the team actually got popular but even then they weren't THAT popular and it really wasnt until the late 80s where they started to become more mainstream, same with Wolverine. Hulk didnt even become popular until his TV-Show with Lou Ferrigno came out in 1977 which ran up until 1982. It was only once the 90s started where the X-Men started to Overshadow the Avengers and FF4 especially after the release of X-Men TAS, it was only during this time period that Spider-Man, Hulk and Wolverine/X-Men were considered Marvel’s big 3. The Avengers and FF4 were having low sales especially after Heroes Reborn but when Kurt Busiek came on the write the Avengers in 1998 where they regained popularity and for all the 2000s they were extremely popular same with the FF4. and to the people saying that Cap wasnt popularity stfu, he was literally created during some of the Darkest Years of WW2 way before WW and he literally gave people hope, I mean for christ sake in Issue 1 he’s literally punching Hitler in the Face and when he died his Death was literally published on the New York Times and broadcasted on channels such as CNN. as for Iron-Man he was extremely popular and his Series peaked above 200,000 copies in the mid-80s during David Michelinie and Bob Layton’s first run on the title and during the 90s he even got his own Animated Series. Thor was always extremely popular and its literally the reason they Included him on the Avengers. Also the argument that the Avengers are only ‘’popular bc of the mcu’’ is stupid since most heroes/teams get popular bc of adaptations and not the comics themselves. I mean do people honestly believe that Hulk, Spider-Man, X-Men, Batman and the Justice League would have been as popular as they are today if not for their respective Shows?
