I'm glad I never really got into Novara. Something about them just felt weirdly off putting and I couldn't put my finger on why. Dickhead senses must have have been tingling. Absolutely unrelated, but that guitar is beautiful. I'm currently learning on a cheapy beginner guitar that's nearly 20 years old but I'm eyeing up a Gretsch hollow body for if I can keep it up a year. Watching you improvise was as impressive as it was jealousy inspiring. Just casually creating really good mood music in a handful of minutes. Absolutely love it

This may sound silly, but a lot of their videos as the thumbnail has a photo of the journalist like really big and they look like they're trying really hard to be as aesthetic as possible with strange angles sometimes. It just felt like, they're centering personalities over the subject of the story. Probably reading too much into it, but the thumbnails were off-putting.

Regarding labor vouchers have you read fundamental principles of communist production and distribution? It really changed my thinking about this stuff and made communism feel so much more achievable. I think vouchers correspond to what marx refered to as lower phase but is absolutely getting rid of private ownership of MoP, exploitation and commodity exchange but most importantly leaves no room for a beurocrat/state intermediary to revert to state capitalism. In my experience, Novara is generally pretty good about their writing and guests(with some notable exceptions), but any time Micheal or Aaron get into their own opinions on said segments it's always centrist lib shit. Admittedly, I haven't engaged with them for most of a year, so they could very well have drifted right.

Speaking towards the transphobia of the US, because the US is so federated there are actually some safe states for trans people with protection but others that have continuously gotten worse. So in some states it's actually worse than the UK. However, one thing I take away is the transphobes are actually learning from each other (learning from the UK) in terms of forming policy. Especially in some states angling transphobia according to a "feminist" rhetoric. All of this is within the limits (like many civil rights of the past) of state sovereignty in terms of what's federal and what's by state.

For me, land back and trans rights are bellwethers for "leftists" media content. I always browse through an outlet's media back catalogue to see what their views are on those before bothering to more broadly engaging with their content.

I hope your vid on neoliberalism and fascism takes time to talk about its imposition on Latin America through fascist regimes. Anglophone discussions especially on KZbin usually begin and end with (post-)Reaganism and (post-)Thatcherism, which leaves those discussions and analyses very incomplete. And so hype about the family abolition video, been anticipating it for ages 🙏
