I'll go ahead and say, the timing on this song was VERY difficult for me at first. Harder than I thought it was going to be, anyway. But, once you figure out a way that you can sync it up, you'll realize just how simple it actually is. It hits you like an "aha" moment. Great tutorial.

Great video! It took me a long time to learn this song. The approach I used was to learn the right and left-hand parts separately until I had them down COLD. Then I gradually combined them, and slowly I got the hang of it. It's my favorite song to play!

I love this song and have since I was a kid. And my favorite performance of it was yours, Paul, in a concert I can't find on KZbin anymore, where you appeared to be having a lot of fun with it. I'm learning it now myself after my wife bought the sheet music, so I'm quite happy to see your tutorial on it.
@Jazzmentl Жыл бұрын
I do have a concert clip of it somewhere. It's possible we took it down. I'll have a look. How are you doing with it?
@considerthepossible Жыл бұрын
@@Jazzmentl So far not too bad. I'm comfortable with the main theme, as is my daughter. She's better than me in the rest of it (the 8:50 mark and the 10:02 mark), but I'm working on it when time allows. She's 15 and taking piano lessons and seems to have a knack for it. This tutorial is helping quite a bit in the parts I've been struggling with even if you didn't focus on it. I do hope you can find that other clip. It is, like I said, my all-time favorite rendition of it.

Dude! This has been one of my favourite christmassy-feel song since i first heard it and I've been dying to learn it! I'm now learning it for a Christmas show, and would love it if you could do an extra tutorial for the jazzy improv bits so I can learn it exactly as it was played! Thank you!

For the main melody horn 5ths. It's easier to play if you don't move your thumb. Use finger pattern 1-3, 2-4, 3-5 so you don't have to move your hand around.

This is a great lesson for breaking down the initial syncopation, but you kinda glossed over the syncopation that connects the main riffs. Please cover that too!

Excellent job! I don’t think it could be taught any better. It worked for me, anyway. I first tried to play it by ear, then listened to you and realized what I was doing wrong. I wonder if Vince Guaraldi composed this piece with the image of a train passing and whistling in mind.

I'm having a go on this with my 61 key Yamaha, so i can't play left hand right. The 4 note 1 octave chords take a lot of practice to instill the muscle memory.

I cannot play the piano. I gave up decades ago - last CENTURY - after one semester of intro and chose to play guitar and drums casually instead. I got an ok keyboard on a whim in 2017 just to have around for noodling and for my kids just in case Mozart or whatever lol. Anyway After two days of studying this awesome breakdown I just made it to the sixth bar. Just to| it mind you lol and just at 1/3 the tempo, but I feel like... omg... what am I going to do with all these worms!
