What is work like when you work from home? What do you usually do on those days at home? How far is your commute to work?
@NetworkWali8 ай бұрын
Working from home is no different than working in the office. Depends on if you actually have to touch the equipment or not. Because remember you can always SSH into an a device remotely. Also, my commute is not that long probably like 15 minutes.

Hey, im currently studying for my Network+, Sec+, than im gonna get my CCNA before the end of the year. What would be the steps I would take to get a job in the field to gain experience? Ive never worked in the field and mostly been doing home labs and courses, aswell as my highschool course that I took a year ago before I graduated.
@joshuawalls869712 күн бұрын
Don’t get the Net+. Just go straight to CCNA. It will teach you everything the Net+ does. EVERYTHING. Except it’ll go deeper so you understand it more. The Cisco specific stuff is about 30% of it so even though it’s technically vendor specific, it still teaches you what you need to know for networking. CompTIA exams are glorified vocab tests. I have a few. I also have my CCNA and it actually taught me networking and gave me practical skills. I promise you’ll be fine skipping the Net+ and going to CCNA and it’ll hold wayyyyyy more HR and employer clout on your resume.

At your job as a Network Engineer, are you sometimes required to work beyond the 8 hours a day time frame? Do you sometimes unexpectedly get a call on the weekends or during off hours to work to resolve a problem?
@NetworkWali8 ай бұрын
It’s funny you just commented this because I just made a video talking about this that I’ll upload very soon. But yes, there are times where you may need to work odd hours like overnight but it really just depends on the team you work at.
@NetworkWali8 ай бұрын
But in my case, luckily for my team, there’s a whole overnight team. And we do like an on-call rotation, which is like once every three months.

I gotta ask… what was your path to Engineering? I’m a Sys Admin and I have my CCNA guy finding it hard to pivot even though there’s tons of overlap in our jobs. I just like the Networking side better

Hey I worked as an Helpdesk for 2 years. Been promoted to a Microsoft Exchange Server Admin,and now working on my CCNA. My question , is it just the same Tickets and you' have KB's you'll follow to troubleshoot ?

Congratulations on your new offer. In the beginning, you’re always going to feel like you’re not ready, but you have to push through it. Imposter syndrome will be real however, if you ask questions and take lots of notes, you’ll be fine.
