@serenity1378*average person isn't a judge of whether or not you're able to help, so the average person should avoid getting involved for alotta things. Take for example, my first aid training, an important part of it was examining the situation before attempting to help anyone, and sometimes you can't help at all. Somebody without training could try to help an injured person and end up hurting them, or worse, getting hurt themselves in the process. My point is, of you ain't an expert, keep yo mouth shut*

Here's one that's actually kinda justified: Losing a tooth as a kid is no big deal. But losing a tooth as an adult? T E R R I F Y I N G. No joke, I had a weird dream one night where one of my teeth started coming loose and I had to put it back in my mouth. I failed and it came out in pieces. I tried to at least put it back together, and it made a weird dissolving noise, before the tooth pieces turned into the size of golf balls (still making the weird noise). Years ago, however, when I was about to get braces, my upper-right canine (I know this because I remember it for being chipped) had to get pulled out in order to get my braces in. Around _that_ time, I also had a dream where it came out, EXCEPT IN _THAT_ DREAM... I was ecstatic that I got it over with. The only teeth I'm glad to have lost _(as an adult)_ are my wisdom teeth.

I’ve noticed a double standard between cis and trans people (i know it said that it was not supposed to do with gender but this still kinda fits because it’s not strictly male vs female). One of the many double standards is if a cis girl dresses up like one of those cutesy gamer girls and talks in a cutesy voice, nobody bats an eye. But if a trans girl does the exact same thing, everyone calls her a groomer. I saw this exact scenario play out with one of my favorite content creators. She’s transfem (specifically genderfluid but mostly presents femininely) and she usually makes a lot of wholesome content with some stories and explanations of different lgbtq+ labels sprinkled in. There was no evidence of any wrongdoing on her part and she generally just kept to herself. But then out of nowhere people started calling her a groomer and all kinds of other horrible things. There were no pieces of evidence that showed anything to imply that she was a groomer. No screenshots, no recordings, no transcripts, absolutely nothing. Other people were making similar content to her but they were cis. Nobody attacked them though. She was just a random transfem making cute content and people called her a groomer because she’s trans. Edit: I got her gender wrong. Shes genderfluid but my point still stands.

@@claire9547NO. "Cis" is a Latin prefix which means "on the same side." It's a NEUTRAL DESCRIPTOR for people whose assigned gender matches their actual gender. If you both understand and object to that, the only possible reason is you want to other trans people.

@katphish30 and yet the word Cis makes many people feel othered, but that's apparently okay? If people don't feel right about a word like that which is predominantly being used by a different community to describe an identity that is not their own, ei: the trans community calling other Cis, then it not alright to being doing. NO ONE deserves to feel othered, and yet that is what the word Cis does to many that have the word applied to them. Therefore, it should not be used out of common respect for people's individual identities. The non-trans community wouldn't be allowed to use words that the Trans community would call othering, so why should the Trans community get to decide what the Non-trans community be called. What's good for the goose MUST therefore be good for the gander. It is another double standard.

@@kristinpraus1600 An astonishing number of white people also get mad if you call them white. People who are in the majority aren't used to thinking of themselves as anything besides fish in water "normal," and a lot of them have unaccustomed feelings when asked to consider other people. They're like toddlers learning to socialize and share; potentially lots of tantrums and meltdowns, but they still need to learn. (And idgaf how they feel about it.)

Laughed hard at parents who severely limited screen/game time. Was talking to a grandmother concerned about her granddaughter’s learning disabilities. I (64) started giving her games that were fun but helped my own son with some of his learning issues. Younger members of the group chipped in as well. The elderly (older than I am, LOL!!!) grandma was thrilled. Turns out she was a real IT queen in her work life and was still into tech, games, etc. once again, don’t judge books by their covers. 😂🤣😂. Edited to add Scribblenaut is wonderful for kids with spelling issues like those found in dysgraphia. Pokémon games teach map reading, reading in general, math facts, basic planning and budgeting and just plain sticking to a project until it’s done.

Here's one from my grade 10 English class that absolutely pissed off. A good student struggles with one deadline? Nope, you're getting marks off for handing it in late. A collection of students with horrible time management procrastinating on multiple assignment? Sure, have an extension! This happened so much in gr10 Eng that it genuinely made me hate my entire class. Most of the students would always procrastinate on their work and complain about it. Sometimes people wouldn't even FINISH their work on the day it's due and my teacher would give them an extension. Me? I'm a straight-A student who always got her work done well and in advance. This one time, I had an essay due on a Friday 3pm, and I asked my teacher if he can give me an extension until midnight to submit my work because I had a field trip that day (which I told him about). He told me to hand it in before I go on the field trip, so I stay up until 4 am to get it done and polished. After my field trip, I ask my friends what happened with the essay and they tell me that he gave a 3 DAY EXTENSION. I was so freaking pissed, really? The majority of my class didn't even finish their essays by the original due date, and yet they got a 3 day extension? My essay would have been done before the deadline, but I still couldn't have a 9 hour extension? If you're reading this, screw you Mr. J. You weren't a bad teacher but you really shouldn't have been so lenient towards the class, none of them deserved it.

In my language (Italian) I think the word "respect can be translated in two ways. There's "rispetto" and there's "stima". People often use "rispetto" with two meanings, as it is pointed out in this video, but I always like to differentiate between the two: "rispetto" is treating someone with the basic respect owed to anyone just for being a human being. "Stima" is something more than that: it's the "respect" that must be earned. It means that you particularly appreciate that person and the way they behave. So, basically, you will show "rispetto" to anyone you encounter (if you are a decent person) , even if you've never seen them before and will never see them again. On the other hand, you will feel "stima" towards someone you've learned a lot from, someone you wish to become like or simply someone whose way of behaving you appreciate. Maybe it's just me, but I like to carefully use this distinction when talking (at least when I'm speaking Italian). Sorry if I made any mistakes either in grammar or in translation. My English is not perfect and I still have a lot to learn

I'm not sure if this really counts with the "double standards that don't involve gender," but in the queer community, when trans women (MTF) and trans men (FTM) talk about their experiences with being transgender, and transphobia that comes with it, there's a clear double standard between how people respond to them. Specifically, when trans men try to talk about their experiences and coin a new word (such as transandrophobia, anti-transmasculinity, or transmisandry) specifically to make sure they won't end up highjacking anyone else's conversations, assholes will still reply to them going "I don't think you guys know what you're talking about unless you pass perfectly even before you start T, get all the surgeries, and then go completely stealth, so all the hate speech and violence ne you experienced is made up because you just want to talk over women and while about Misogyny Boy Edition and you want trans women to die." Which sounds ridiculous, right? Well, even if Asshole is making a bunch of ridiculous claims, people will still end up listening to them more than they will listen to trans men. The above sentiment expressed by Asshole usually comes with the underlying message that trans men are just stupid silly girls and they'll only start to believe they're actually men when they start T, pass perfectly, and get allllll the surgeries, and then go completely stealth. The reason why Asshole holds that sentiment, and why people usually like to believe them, is because they haven't unpacked whatever internalized gender essentialism they have, and they decide to subject that onto the rest of the community. That comes with either seeing men as kind of "gender traitors" who are transitioning into the Scary Gender (TM), because there's a certain stigma around men who are perceived as inherently more predatory and aggressive, or using cis manhood as the sole standard for manhood that trans men should have to live up to perfectly or not be seen as men at all. I, sharing my experiences with transphobia and transandrophobia, am not a threat. I am not a silly little girl just playing pretend, I am a man who shouldn't have to start hormones and get all the surgeries just to be seen as such. Men and women aren't opposites and things can apply to one gender without the opposite being true for the other. Trans women and trans men have more in common than not thanks to being trans and being in the same community, and using one to bludgeon against the other is only going to benefit the cis people who want to oppress us.

There are 2 I can think of as an Autistic adult; 1: You can't be Autistic, you don't act like those children on tv, and 2: You are older than your coworkers, you need to suck it up and act like it. With the first one: of course I don't act like a literal child, I have years of occupational therapy and development to get me act fairly normally. Then with the second one: I am also emotionally delayed and therefore act 5-ish years my junior. In short, I am simultaneously too Autistic and not Autistic enough. Even though I can mostly act like a normal adult, I still have this Neurological disability that affects my social skills and emotions. Add a physical disability to the mix, and I can't get work because I am seen as being "not capable of doing the job properly" yet food stamps/Social Security thinks "there's no reason you can't get work". No one wants to hire someone with both physical and mental disabilities. All of which is incredibly frustrating.

One of the 10 commandments actually translate to "the parents are always right no matter how unreasonable they can get" About being military age, some individuals (may or may not) wish to get an early start regardless of drinking, that's why there's military school We forget how bad we had it at 19 years of age, like too old to be taken care of, too young to be taken seriously. 13 of course is no better. Too old for the touch of mom, too young for sex I'm the youngest of three and as such I can also confirm that I was the one spending the most time with my mom because my brother and sister were always out over weekends doing everything that I was told I was too young to do when really the whole thing fell on me because they had more of concept of dignity while I was an undiagnosed autist until 2020 Working as a minimum wage nobody when I was 20, people would say every job is dignified. Staying single through my mid 30s and still working in minimum wage having never moved out, said people look at me as inferior

Not having children is a big double standard I’ve encountered constantly in my social and work life! I’m expected to work holidays as I’m on my own, I don’t reymind, and have actually swapped with someone who had kids and couldn’t get Xmas leave when I was in the army. But my time iand life s as important as anyone else I’m finally getting to realise it. I’ve become quite vocal nowadays, I am not childless by choice, I lost my son and at least one more until I had to accept I’m not going to carry my own. others have similar experiences and this assumption is very hurtful! this video covers most of the things that I agree with and have personally experienced! Yes boomers ( I’m on the cusp) are the worst … they seem to have forgotten that they were young AND how their grandparents and parents made them feel!!

I totally agree irt adolescents and young adults generally being way more respectful to others than older people. For example, I'm disabled and often use a walking cane. I absolutely have to be seated on buses and trains, because I fall over easily and when I do, my injuries tend to be significant. Young people are FAR more likely to stand and offer me their seat when they see my cane. They're also way more likely to be cool about it if I have to ask for their seat. The response is usually, "Oh! Yeah, no problem -- do you need a hand with your stuff?" (Usually shopping bags). Older people tend to respond by interrogating me about why I need to sit down, so they can judge whether my personal medical history (which is none of their bloody business) makes me deserving of THEIR seat 🙄 Ableds: disabled people should not have to disclose our private medical info just to access basic accommodations!! I shouldn't have to explain my rare and complex genetic disorder just to be able to use public transport safely!! 😤

I worked in fast food for 2 years before working for her and even when I was accused of touching a coworker inappropriately I never had as much stress put on me as that job and I worked there for about 3-4 months. My girlfriend told me she could see how stressed I was every day and then could see the relief in my face when I quit the day after a huge ass rush happened. So yeah, bosses can take a quit on the spot just like how we take their firings.

I've known him since I was a little girl. However when he came out he opened up about his struggles with dating because he's a conservative gay man and doesn't want pride parades. Lots of people say if you're a POC or part of the LGBT+ community you can't be conservative but if you are, you're isolated, demeaned and threatened for having different beliefs, even if they aren't extreme. My dad's friend just wants to live his life as a gay conservative, not being celebrated just because of his sexuality and just treated like a normal person and he shouldn't be shamed for being a gay man with his own beliefs that just so happen to be conservative.

The story about demanding respect and respect is earned reminds me of something I learned in the military. You do get superiors that don't deserve any respect at all. But what learned was that you show respect to the uniform and rank they hold at a minimum. Respecting the person in that uniform and at that rank is something that they have to earn.

I was laying on the bed watching them because that's what I did when my dad wasn't there (he was downstairs watching the other ones) my brother and sister were playing with a nightlight that plugged into the wall by unplugging it and plugging it back in. I then thought that maybe playing with it wasn't a good idea and spent like 20 minutes trying to get them to stop. Nothing worked and my sister had the bright idea to wrap the plug in a scrap of tin foil that was on the ground for some unknown reason. As one expects the outlet burst into a small flame and a small explosion happened. My dad who had heard the pop from the outlet ran upstairs to see what happened where both my siblings were crying and I was there still on the bed processing what I saw. Next thing I knew my brother was trying to explain what happened saying that they were messing around and it exploded. My sister on the other hand in tears said that it was my fault and I made her do it. My dad not liking me too much at the time believed those two and started yelling at me for not doing enough to stop them. In the end me and my brother were put in timeout and my sister gave us the most evil look the whole time. I still hate her for it but over the years I've somewhat forgiven her because she was like 4 at the time.

That part about athletes (or where I live, also teacher's kids).... group of them were involved in grabbing another student and putting their genitals in their face and got a few days of in-school suspension.... A random student swore a lot, so what did they do? ARRESTED HIM AND TOOK HIM TO JAIL for "disorderly conduct"... Another person tried to report a threat someone who worked at the school made, was told by the SRO their information was accurate, and then got arrested for a "false report", which in this state, is a FELONY.... Also, those arrests were made on the same day... that's what they're like in A DAY...

We go to another temp agency, have a job for us both in the next couple of days. Go to original warehouse that night, let them know that it will be my last night. Temp agency 1 rep " What about a 2 week notice?" Me ".....where was his?"

This is a weird double standard, but a store I know had a donation box for groceries for people. For the whole time they had it, they didn't get enough groceries to even cover the bottom of the box. Sometime later, they set out a box for donations of pet supplies. They filled up at least two big boxes of food and toys. I figured it had to do with the mentality that "people can get a job" and "they abuse the system", which some do, unfortunately, and almost everyone loves pets.

The two weeks notice one: I'm in an 'at will' state, meaning that a company for fire you for any reason or no reason whatsoever (still subject to unemployment laws) and technically the same goes for any employee (although that's a double standard that I can only get unemployment if I'm fired and not if I have a good reason to quit), but I have had plenty of jobs that had policies in place that said if I did not provide 2 weeks notice and work it (unless management said not to finish it out) that whatever my pay was would be dropped down to fed min wage (which is still only $7.25 an hour) and I wouldn't be entitled to any accrued unused vacation/sick day hours to be paid out to me. The USA drinking age: the real reason the drinking age is 21 is because the government gives states' dept of transportation money for road upkeep for keeping the drinking age at 21. States can put the drinking age at anything they want, it's not a federal law. Just a federal kickback scheme.

About the oldest sibling thing, I'm the oldest of 3. Neither my younger sister(middle child) or I was allowed to have sleepovers until about 6th grade. Our mom said "I never had my first sleepover until I was 12" But my brother had his first sleepover at 8 years old. He is the only son, and I suspect this has something to do with it. I confronted my mom and she said it was because of the pandemic.

Young people have to be polite and showcase good manners towards their elders, but elders get to act like assholes and everyone just exscuses it with: "they are old, they earned the right to be rude." Or my favorite one: "They are like children, we have to be patient and not take offense." These are full grown adults who are responsible for their own behavior, more often well aware of their behavior and fully capable of correcting themselves. Barring mental illness or mental handicaps, age does not exscuse rudeness. If that were the case, then all ages could use that escuse without being chastised. As you can see, it grinds my gears, especially since these same elders used to whoop my ass for being rude as a child. This double standard is so widespread, especially in the USA.

The whole 2 weeks notice thing is another weird American thing I can't get my head around... In the UK, and most of Europe, all job contracts have a notice period that works both ways - usually 2 to 4 weeks, but the more senior the position the longer it is. I'm on a 3 month notice period. The idea is that if I leave then the notice period lets the business transition me out and someone new in, or sort something else out. However, if I get terminated for anything less than Gross Misconduct then they; A. Continue having me work there as usual until time runs out, B. Put me on Garden Leave - still paid and on the books, but not expected to come in and work, C. Pay me off for the period and terminate me immediately. As an employer, I would be terrified if all my staff could just claim "At Will!" and bugger off without any notice.

I have a single-person double standard that still annoys me to no end: My first job was at a day camp that I had to ride a van pool for over an hour to get to and from every single day. In order to pass the time, I got myself a Nintendo DS to play on the way. There was this kid who would spend the entire trip every single day begging and pleading to let him play it ad nauseum, and most of the time, I ended up letting him just to shut him up. Occasionally, we would host an overnight camp, with dorms for the counselors that slept eight. I was ready and in my bed, waiting for everyone else to finish up, and decided to play the thing for a couple of minutes. This same kid, I kid you not, said, “Just admit you’re addicted to that thing already.”

For story 39, I remember having a funny argument with a regular in the pub I worked at at the time. One of the owner's best mates (E) was gay, and one night, while we're all sat there watching tv, E gets up to go to the toilet and, whole he's gone to do that then go our to smoke, the two older men start talking shit and saying stuff like "Back in my time, we'd beat a guy if we were in the showers in sports and he was gay cause we didn't want him near us." I told them that was fucked up and they should be ashamed that they did that. He says "Well if you had grown up in those times too, you'd have done the same thing." "Probably, but it doesn't change that it's wrong that you beat someone simply for their sexuality. If your worry was that you thought he'd try and rape you, you shouldn't have worried as I'm sure they have standards that you could never have reached." They then tried using the nazis as a way to justify their actions, saying if I'd grown up a german in ww2 and was a nazi soldier, I would have agreed with hitler. "Well.. that doesn't change what the nazis did as being fuckdd up. And even then, a lot of them didn't realise just how bad their side was. I'm not sure if it's true, but apparently german PoWs were shown stuff that happened to jewish prisoners and many were disgusted and shocked. But even so, no katter what you believed back then when it was the norm, it does not change the fact that it was wrong and shouldn't have happened." He then tried saying I was pulling things out my ass and he thought I was intelligent. I laughed at him, said goodnight and let him leave.

I am from Germany and just finished learning my job for 3,5 years. My English is too bad to describe it right, but here we got the job „Anlagenmechaniker SHK“. On this job you do several old jobs in one because not enough people want to learn them individually anymore. So I learned the job of a plumber, heating engineer, ventilation engineer, electrics up to 230 Volt, solar stuff and a ton of stuff about recreational energy. So of course we learned many useless stuff that was outdated, but many times in our theory lessons the teachers would explain what the rules for todays standards are. Nearly everyday on a construction site, the older builders wanted to correct me on stuff. Be it theory or practical stuff, they just wouldn‘t believe a young learning guy like me even if it was painfully obvious that they are wrong. Not once did anyone stood up for me so one day I finally had enough. My colleague and me had finished a big project involving a complete renovation of a school. We did the heating part, ( he is a learned plumber and outside of putting the pipes in place, he has no idea of the work of a heating engineer ) and he mainly did the pipe work while I put up radiators on the walls. To be fair, he was a very good plumber and had a wide span of knowledge on that topic. When I saw that there was no extra fire isolation on the pipes that went through a wall, I told him exactly that. He told me I am wrong and that this is just the case for some pipes ( complete bs because it’s not about the safety of the pipes, but in case of fire they want to hinder the fire on reaching other rooms ). So I knew I was right, but since we argued every single day I just let it be (I still mentioned it per e mail, normal text and per call with witnesses to my boss who was a clueless idiot that was not even able to write an e mail by himself). 2 months and some exams later, I was finished with my 3,5 years training and officially a learned worker in the field. I instantly said good bye to my boss and went straight from the firm to the city officials. They gave me an appointment for the next week, so I went there at the fixed date and stated my problem. City staff: Hello, I heard you specifically asked for someone that knows the exact rules on school construction, so how can I help you. Me: Yes thank you. So you are aware that if there are new pipes in a school, they have to put fire isolation in the holes where the pipes go through? City staff: *lifting one eyebrow* Yes that’s pretty much common knowledge in the field. Is there something I should know? Me: Yeah, I just wanted to tell you that XYZ school would burn down if a bigger fire were ever to start. I then told him about the missing stuff and showed my proof of me telling everybody there that it was missing. He listened silently and after I finished stared at me for some seconds before saying: Young man, I completely support you, but do you have any idea what will happen with your old colleagues and boss if that happens to reach a judge? I just told him I honestly did not care about these idiots because the builder on site clearly did not care enough about the safety issues, I mean he not once looked it up after I told him several times. My old boss was even worse because he knew nothing but how to save money that directly went in his pockets. I said everything we do has consequences and as an trainee I learned that the hard way, getting yelled at for every little mistake until I wasn‘t even confident about me working alone ,even tho I was pretty good. He said okay, we will reach out for you if we need more information or your word in front of a judge. Since this story is already way too long: -old boss got jailed for 6,5 years because they found out many safety mistakes on many sites that were planned in his name. Additionally they realized he fucked over the state with the firm taxes -old colleague did not get punished until the judge heard my story and decided he knew exactly what could happen and intentionally left the safety issue how it was. So a big fine of a couple thousand euros and a huge number of hours in community service, plus a 3 year probation. -many other people got in trouble for different obvious and grave mistakes and got fucked by the judge The judge told me he was impressed that there are still young adults that care about safety in that way and thanked me. I think if they wouldn‘t have blatantly ignored the safety issue in that school, and just put any kind of stuff in these holes I would have never said a word. The fact they risked kids because one was lazy and the other stingy with money really ticked me off. That they were rude and disrespectful to me was not even that bad, I withstood that crap for over 3 years and I learned to deal with it. Now I can proudly say I got my asshole boss fired, but I feel a bit bad for the firm and all the other employees that lost their job because of the firm closing. So yeah, long story but I hope everyone here learned that sometimes you have to stand up and say something, even if unrelated people lose something in the progress. I am 100% sure if I were an unlearned 50year old with many years of experience they would have listened to me. But no, the young, inexperienced guy of this generation has no clue what he is talking about. Moral of the story: Listen to people when they sound even a little bit logical and you don‘t know for sure if you are right. Karma can reach anybody and anytime in life.

Small kids are excellent judges of character when they tell an adult that someone seems like a bad person, but older kids who have better observational skills, reasoning, and tact are far too often told that they’re just being mean when they tell an adult the same thing and are dismissed. Blessedly when I was a minor my mom listened to me every time I said “I don’t trust this person” because while I don’t trust easily, I’m typically ambivalent but friendly and something has to be _way_ off to set off my “avoid them” bells _and_ make me a ay something about it. However I’ve seen my friends say the same things to their parents about someone and get told to be nice because saying you don’t trust someone is rude.

I don't have children of my own, but I've watched as my sisters relaxed more and more with each subsequent child they raised. The oldest shall not have refined sugar or processed meat! The youngest drinks chocolate milk with a hot dog. It's what happens as a more laid back attitude that comes with experience combines with the mellowing that comes with the parents' maturity. For context, my oldest sister was 14 when I was born. None of my sisters were allowed to even touch Dad's silverware. He shared ice cream with me including sharing his spoon. When the oldest would come home to visit, she'd go apoplectic seeing the things I was allowed to do. It's amazing how much our parents changed after 14 years of parenting and maturing. Thank you sisters! Sorry, not sorry.

Double Standards when it comes to parents are the worst in my opinion. Because they’re your parents and hold power over you. If you argue with them they can just shut you up by taking your belongings. My dad was especially bad about it. He would yell at me for doing a task slow yet he would take a while to do any task himself. I would be yelled at for forgetting something they said. They would also forget things I said. It was this weird twisted thing where they’re aloud to get mad at me but I’m not allowed to get mad at them for the same things. Also my dad just sucked because he knew the smoke from his cigarettes gave me headaches(I’m not to sure what it is but there are other things like mint as well as a lot of candles and perfumes that give me headaches). He would often smoke around me and sometimes in places where I couldn’t get away. Mainly the car. Which was worse I think because it was paired with my motion sickness. So car rides with him sucked and it was always a relief when we reached our destination.

3 things come to mind, 2 specific, 1 general. Relating to all the kids can't do that, parents do it trope. It's the privilige of seniority. We have a saying of sorts in my country along the lines of "What's allowed for Jupiter isn't for the calf" (direct translation). My parents fortunately were reasonable enough to at least explain why I shouldn't stay up late/leave a mess even though they did it too but one of my grandparents sometimes said the quote and I was always furious about it. I get you couldn't really reason with a 6 year old with logic but a 14 year old could understand reason enough to not just go by authority when they do something the parents don't like. Second: sometimes the oldest child narrative flips and they are the ones being the example to the younger siblings and can get away with sh*t. Example: one of my friends older brother was always the good child, the successful one. Last year the family discovered they slacked on university studies, dropped out and it happened he squandered his semester funds his parents gave him, thousands of dollars wasted (it doesn't sound much but for example 1500 dollars is quite a lot in my country, and this amount is the average cost of a semester, now think about 3-5k). The parents did nothing about it, never questioned his grades before and a 3 year long lie about grades went unpunished. He is still funded by his parents, can stay in the rented flat where he lives with my friend rent-free and unemployed, always staying up late gaming then complaining if someone wakes him up with cooking lunch. While this was/is happening the parents still have high expectations to the younger sibling. Third: My best friends first job out of college was a small travel agency ran by a late 40s to early 50s married couple who hired my friend for a month of payed internship with promises of giving a full-time job after. The promotion to full-time was delayed a month. The second month passed and my friend confronted them about the promised full time job. The owners said they won't give him the full-time job as they couldn't imagine someone this young (talking about a 20 year old guy) as a colleague. He promptly quit. Then the second double standard comes in that employers don't want to hire young people and older people (like below 25 or above 50) and declining my friends tries to find work with the reason of him being overqualified. He went 4 months without being able to find work and almost settled for a factory job. Fortunately he got a slightly better job than factory work at a storage facility.

I am in my 40s, so I am not a young person saying this. Two phrases I hate so much are "Respect your elders" and " children should be seen and not heard." Elders don't deserve respect just for being an elder, especially if they don't know how to give respect themselves. And children are people too, and they deserve to have their voices heard.

2:46 thankfully thats on the mend with characters like Travis Montgumery on Station 19 or TK Strand and Carlos Reyes on 9-1-1 Lonestar as well as Heartstopper capturing hearts especially in the UK. Thats just naming a few you have Young Royals, Red White and Royal Blue or even Call Me By Your Name. Portraying LGBTQ+ people as just normal something a lot of people need to see.

I'm on the spectrum and when my neurotypical mother starts singing Disney songs to herself, it's considered cute. When I do it, people ask if I've taken my meds. How is being neurodivergent making anything I do seem cringe? How is the way my brain is wired making something I like doing like anybody else wrong?

A dbl standard i notice is between ppl that are perceived as attractive & those who are not. For example if youre good looking u can get away with things that some1 who's not cant. Now I dont consider myself all that but some women do find me attractive so theres been a few times were ive done something like make a joke & the girls laugh another coworker who wasn't consider handsome literally said the same joke & he got accused of sexual harassment. Then when I was around 22 I was a cook & was very playful & touchy feely with some of the waitresses would even pinch each others butts 1 day another guy thought he could do the same & got slapped & yelled at. Same goes for females an attractive girl can get away with things 1 who isnt. Ive seen attractive girls with attitudes & ppl not only defend them but praise then for "keeping it real" but an attractive woman does & says the same & shes a bitch

I had an English teacher that just didn't like me(think it was because I didn't like the books we read). The entire class was talking over her to the point that she had to stop and wait, so I told the people around me to be quiet. She started screaming at me for talking. She was at least a little humble when I told her what I had said

Oh the book thing... I have to bother with so many people telling my I am addicted to gaming... In grade 5 I had so many books I drowned in them and was sitting alone in my room for the entire weekend reading Harry Potter for the 8th time in a row. Yes... All of them... All 7 books I read like 13 times? But how dare I buying a new video game that will sit in my storage for a couple months, because I am to busy with adult life and house chores?

I've been on both sides of the 'teacher' liking you and not. Ironically in the same subject too. For context, I finished school in the early 2000's. Home computers with the internet were only just starting to catch on with the wider public. I was lucky that my father did a lot of work with electronics and hardware engineering, so I'd been exposed to PC computers at home since I was about 6, and got the internet when I was about 11. This meant I was living and breathing computer stuff by the time I got into secondary school; my IT teacher pretty much gave me free rein to do whatever I wanted so long as I submitted good coursework; I only had to discuss the concept of projects to make sure it met the requirements and it never felt like any other of the teachers actually teaching since I really 'got' what everything was about. Flip that on its' head in college. One of my courses was computing (not IT) and I was willing to learn to code..... except the particular person teaching the code part a) didn't teach the concept well and b) was sexist. As one of only 2 girls on the course we were literally shunned and expected to know these coding concepts just from the poorly photocopied handouts that he didn't explain. That was why I almost failed. The smaller part of the course taught by two other people was like night and day; this was looking at database management SQL and VB. 100% Didn't have any issues with this part of the course. Also had it outside of educational settings. Volunteered at an equestrian facility where I learned to ride and did casual yard work for free* rides. They ended up getting a new yard manager that almost killed the business, put me into autistic meltdown and she only liked the people that had their own better trained horses (that paid lots of money to keep them there). That was actually the last straw for me there and I didn't go back. I miss it terribly but I couldn't function with someone like her screaming at me to make a horse do something it literally wasn't capable of. * This is the restriction; I rode 'whatever was left' and for a while was riding a horse that many had refused to get on because he was very nervous and couldn't handle a lot of pressure. That's probably why we eventually worked really well together, while progress was slow since I could only ride him twice a week because of actual work, we got a bond and some serious trust. That manager was the exact reason a horse like him would end up having more problems than not. Badgering him and making him uncomfortable for too long would make him act out (literally thrown himself and the rider on the ground kind of act out... so not safe) and I wouldn't let that happen so I got screamed at and BAM. Meltdown.

Okay I'm a lover of audio books I read hundreds over the years I've gotten to the point where I'm having a hard time finding books in my public library I haven't already read ( part of the reason I'm listening to Reddit sorry lmao) any way the second I tell people yeah I read audio books they say "well that's not really reading" to hell it isn't the only difference between me listening and you reading is the fact I know how to say all the names right, and BTW I have dyslexia so it's a serious struggle to sit down and actually read, of course the second I tell them I have a reading disability they back off. Generally that just makes me angrier because they're subliminally saying neurotypical people shouldn't read audio books. Or I might be overthinking a little but still. sorry wrote a f-ing novel, the your stuff mainly

as a recovering opiod addict who has done methadone and suboxone, an not shy about it, i dont know what 4:20 is talking about. like yeah, some people are like that, but you have to show with your personality you arent in the mindset anymore. people probably dont want to hire them cuz they cant understand the slang, personal hygiene, foul language, whole plethora of things. Ive never once had weirder interactions with someone once i mentioned i was in recovery. stop acting like a drug addict and people dont even know. and im not like a minor ex addict, im a “IV that into my jugular” ex addict.

When it comes to the "gays being funny" that was actually progress in 80s and 90s, though Hollywood did do overkill with it. Durning the "hays code days" homosexuals weren't allowed to be portrayed in movies at all. When T.V came around, networks also banned homosexual charters in shows. That is not to say homosexuals weren't portrayed at all, but they weren't shown out in the open. They had to be "queer coded". As the hays code started to fall, studios did start to allow homosexual charters to be more openly portrayed but only if they weren't funny. Their lives had to serious. They had to be in serious scenes. Everything they said had to be serious. They couldn't even tell a knock knock joke. Yes, there were some shows and movies that did have a homosexual that could be funny but for the most part they had to be serious. Then in the 90s is when homosexuals could actually be something more than just a sad serious charter. They were actually allowed to be funny. But Hollywood, as it does with everything, went overboard with this. Now though it seems that things are starting to finally starting to balance out. Homosexual can be funny, smart, stupid, serious, honest, good, bad, greedy, whatever. We can actually be shown as diverse people that have multiple sides to them. We can actually be shown as real humans.

I'm going to start by saying it was rough seeing you get so uncomfortable talking about eating disorder. I hope you're okay and never have to deal with it again. Secondly I have not ill feelings towards anyone struggling with this but I believe that people react differently when dealing with binge eating issues because with something like anorexia the effects not only more visible but more immediate and more dangerous in a much shorter time. Over eating definitely has sudden possible consequences like choking but there are heavier people that are that size and it's just more normalized these days. A person who can't eat, weak, looking like skin draped over bones and is very malnourished is more obvious and immediately concerning. Both issues deserve the same level of attention and care. One just make people more uncomfortable because the visible effects are further outside the norm.
