Andy has already changed skateboarding in a massively positive way.. but I think by the time he's where Rodney is today, just like Rodney, we'd be looking at his body of work and thinking how much skateboarding might have sucked without his input. Many do great things, few explain the framework in simple terms that allows that to happen.

ANDY YOU CAN DO GRIND MAPPING AND FLIP MAPPING ON ONE GRIP TAPE!!! print the flip lines in red and the grind lines in blue. Then use colored lenses to only focus on the map you want!! This has been a thing a long long time. Myself as well as many others have done and still do this. Drawl a X through your front and back bolts is the simple version of this grip. Everything in skateboarding is math and physics. That will always be true. Andy is a great visionary and teacher. Unlike so many people in the past he doesn't gate keep information. Pros would gate keep information so they had the upper hand with new and innovative tricks and secrets in skateboarding. Andy on the other hand loves to share information and the specifics and technical side of skateboarding. mad props to him.

I like this analogy to music theory and I feel like people often get music theory wrong in the very way that Andy is trying to lay this out in opposition to. People are often in one of 2 camps when it comes to music theory. Either it's the "rules" and therefore the correct way or it's a constraint that only serves to limit creativity. Both incorrect. Music theory is just a way to describe things. Being able to describe things helps us learn and teach. Knowing the theory is completely different from following it. People need to stop looking at it as following theory and start looking at it as using theory to describe what you did.

Love the way you think Andy! As for a tape that includes grind references and whatever else maybe what could be helpful is to run it past some other types of creative minds to see if they can interpret and simplify your design even further. Please keep in mind this comes from a guy who is a designer not a skater. Really just appreciated your enthusiasm and thought process. Thanks for sharing.

hey guys could you let andy know that there would be ways to give the deck concave in the spot he was mentioning even with wood as material. you can steam wood in that state you can bend it or press it in shape which it keeps permanently. if you then cook it in wax it becomes waterproof to the core and more durable. but you would have to use a glue that doesnt stiffen the board if you get what im saying since the deck would already be almost finished at that point so the waxcooking would be one of the last productionsteps. the glue has to hold the sheets together while still becoming bendable under heat. could look amazing too ^^ i just saw that you can just use a heatgun to in theory make corrections or changes afterwards. but as pointed out the glue needs to be pretty resistent and safe since you reheat it. might cause toxic fumes otherwise.
