I know you mentioned a facebook group which I do like the idea of that. But what I've been finding to be even better than a facebook group is dischord. I joined a few gamedev related dischord channels and they have been really helpful not only for help but also for motivation. Seeing other peoples work and whatnot and just being able to chat with other game developers and designers who range from different skill levels has been awesome. I think you can make a discord channel and only allow certain people so you could keep it to only those in your community and build that relationship even further. Of course you can't be on discord 24/7 helping people but you could have mods to help with that and it could be something to think about possibly

barret232hxc Ye I feel like discord would be a better option than Facebook, it's like the newest 'thing'

What discords do you follow? I wouldn't mind joining one centered around gamedev

Wow man! I have been trying to learn how to code for a while now. I understand so little and have so many questions. I definitely will be signing up!! You should make a discord group for people that sign up. Just a suggestion. I just found you today and subscribed too.

Hi Zach Thank you for answering my questions^^ Since I'm all new to this and don't know much about anything, a follow up question I have: My guess is, that most games run on sort of an software engine. So, is learning how to create a game with Java a real thing? Or is it a necessary step for further specializing your game dev craft?

Should you use a game engine, or could you create just as good a game in java?
@edmanbosch74436 жыл бұрын
Well, there are some "Game Engine" type of tools for Java, so you can technically do both.

Search for LibGDX, that one is a engine or a framework, I'm not sure, but it's good. lwjgl isn't a engine but it bring opengl to java.
@TopPodClips6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I knew a bit about lwjgl bringing opengl to java, but never really got to grips with it as it was not object oriented. I'll have a look at LibGDX, it could be what I'm looking for!

OK, I wasn't really sure because I'm relatively new to Java, and I've seen people say you need to use a game engine. But if a tool could bring in the functions then it would be great as well. Thanks for the help! :)
@edmanbosch74436 жыл бұрын
Well, from what I've read libGDX isn't really much of an engine, more like a high-level framework(although if you only want to do 2D it should be fine with the stuff it already provides). Something like jMonkeyEngine could be more of what you're looking for.

I was thinking that... I'm doubtful he's one to be paying for courses. No offence to the guy, but he's just a beginner. There are much better options. HeartBeast being the main one.

Yeah, he doesn't take criticism either, he got bad reviews on that game, and said it was because people didn't know how to play. And he has a bunch of people saying don't listen to the hate, even though it's constructive criticism.

FYVE Why does it matter? As long as he can teach the concepts that are in the course. I am sure he won't teach something he can't code himself.

I went to the site happy and left not happy because the courses are paid :(
