Thanks Shane, i never would have thought about the prop guard until you mentioned it.

I should make a trek up to Buffalo, and revisit the Croaker as I visited her when she was in New London next to Electric Boat's ship yard.

Sure, ThumperE23, come on up when you can!

That may be a add on project to consider for dry dock. Returning/adding her missing prop guard, another step to her former glory. What do you think, Shane?
@BuffaloNavalPark3 ай бұрын
Absolutely it will be considered, bluerebel01! It's something our crew may be able to do, or the dockyard folks...but, either way it's on my list of things to accomplish!

A great video about a subject i have been wondering about I noticed the empty mounts while she was getting repaired.

Thanks as always, Kirk! It was a mystery...but, archives and historic photographs solved it!

@@BuffaloNavalPark Yep, I just noticed it and wondered why. I appreciate the explanation

Thanks again MrJeep75. One of those things that I "see" but for a long time, didn't "notice"!

What did they do with the prop guards that were removed?
@BuffaloNavalPark3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. Quite frankly for Little Rock's and the one from Sully, I don't know - I haven't yet found documentation.

Nice sleuthing Shane! The things we don't notice.. Does the Croaker still have her props? What happened to them after being removed? Also wondering what happened to the rangekeeper the Navy removed from Little Rock for BB-62! Does Battleship New Jersey still have it?
@BuffaloNavalPark3 ай бұрын
John, thanks for your support! Items: 1) The props were removed off Croaker, during her decommissioning. She was slated to become a museum ship in Groton, which she did for 10 years. So, they had them removed prior to that time. 2) We are missing our Mk 48 computer. At first i thought it was sent to USS Wisconsin (as all of the gun fire control equipment that they needed was removed in 1987) but it was actually sent to a Battleship Support Station in Lexington, Kentucky - it's presumed for parts for the Iowas.

Is the Sully prop guard something that can be fabricated by a local steel shop using similar round steel to a car roll-cage?
@BuffaloNavalPark3 ай бұрын
Yes, it's something that we should absolutely have fabricated and mounted during dry dock! I will be working to get that done!
@Reaglesracing44_2 ай бұрын
what’s the purpose for prop guards???
@BuffaloNavalPark2 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. It was to protect the props from bombs or debris. The goal is to deflect anything coming from above and to deflect it out of the way of a direct hit on the props.
