I've never been to the US but I've seen many food shows, and the US is one of my dream food destinations. So many different cuisines. From the native cuisines, to all the dishes brought by centuries of waves of tens of millions of Europeans, then all the African American food, then waves and waves of immigrants from all over the world, , it's just off the charts ridiculously diverse in terms of food. That diversity of course includes corporate slop which is constantly being pushed, and unfortunately the poor are the most vulnerable to it.

A friend of mine is american, he married a german woman and now lives in Germany. He always says you cant cook here like in the US. His wife doesn't like to cook, I love to cook. Everytime he is at my home I cook german dishes and he loves to eat it. His favourite is Brauerpfanne (brewer's pan I think you can translate it). He once told me that he realy want to eat mac and cheese, so I looked up for a recipe. I invited for dinner and cooked it, all fresh no powders, he and his wife came to visit and he was suprised. As we ate, his wife loved it, he said: it tastes okay, but not like at home. And asked which brand of mac and cheese I chose. His favourite is Kraft. I told him that this is all made by myself, he was falling from all clouds. He later told me that it tasted awsome, but not like he had expected and wanted the recipe, I gave it to him and he send it to his mother with greetings from Germany because: "They know how to make and awsome Mac n cheese!".😂

Sure, but that doesn't change the fact that this IS readily available prepared food on the shelves. Compred to other countries, it's piss poor. Granted we are talking about comapring the lowest, but because of poorer American food standards they are truly slop. It's not that a certain percentage don't weat such things, it's that they ARE available and some do. And it doesn't end here - look at your fizzy sodas, your other snacks and so on compared to the rest of the world - you should perhaps compare the additives.

@crunchyfrog555 you know what. Sure. If the criticisms did go more into the harmful additives, and the subsidized processed stuff, then sure. The critics have several good points. My wife and I were VERY young (teenagers) when we had our kids. We had no money, no idea what we were doing, and very little help from our families. Some of the ridiculous dinners we made then are something we still laugh about. 30 years later, we are not young and poor, and life is very different. So is our food. Although once in a while, we do a "throwback" and cook one of these ridiculous things for our now 30-something kids just for fun.

@Alexander-vo4gv but at the same time - we got through it. We were all OK in the end. It wasn't terrible. In fact we sometimes look back at it all and have a good laugh. We don't have many regrets. I don't consider these experiences to be bad memories. They were part of our growth and development. I was talking about some of these with our now 33 year old daughter a short while ago. We had names for some of our creations - "buddy burgers", "favorite dinner" etc. She still asks for "favorite dinner" every birthday - which is ground beef in mushroom soup mix on top of mashed potatoes with corn on top. I mean - it's kind of awful and awesome at the same time.

Not true... Except in the food deserts where you cannot buy fresh vegetables and fruits (canned ones are actually healthy too, if they're not too full of preservatives), there is no such thing as "high quality food" being too expensive. There is no "high quality", an eggplant is an eggplant no matter if it's organic or not, it will always feed you better than industrial processed meals. Stop believing that being poor you cannot feed yourself properly and healthy, it's usually the opposite, industrial crap is more expensive than buying rice and beans...

People believe that they have to eat fresh and organic food to be healthy, it doesn't have to be, even in food deserts you can always find beans, lentils, rice, and it is so much cheaper and healthier already than to buy industrial processed food. The issue is people need to learn to cook basic meals again. I know Americans who don't even know how to cook rice or lentils, although it's so easy (and you can always look it up on the internet)

What I don't get is why processed food is the food of the poor in the USA. The poorer you are in Eastern Europe the more natural and basic you go (that doesn't apply only to sausages and cheese). @VileGecko
@VileGecko 14 күн бұрын
@@HaohmaruHL Yes, I do imagine that the zoning laws, HOAs and FDA and USDA regulations might be among the primary reasons. Here in Eastern Europe probably 95% of single-family households - even in low-density urban areas - tend to keep vegetable gardens and orchards on their properties, more than half would also keep poultry or rabbits; add small vineyards to that list in the Black Sea region. Basically "farmers' markets" here are just regular markets offering goods at prices below those of supermarkets. Not only chain stores have to compete with small-scale suppliers - many will even themselves procure fruits, vegetables and raw meats from local farmers instead of larger corporations - without even advertising the practice.

Truth is Roman, that young mothers in America are broke AF and there are a lot of poor people in America. It's a mistake to think that all Americans have a good quality of life This is the type of food that dirt poor people in America eat because this slop is cheap and real food is expensive here. These young parents probably work long hours and are paid the minimum legal wage in addition to doing all the house work and raising kids. When I travel to Europe I still cook and shop in the markets and I notice that simple staple foods are both healthier and more affordable compared to the food in America. Yes, it's slop but the people who eat this food often have no choice because they live in poverty and this is the only cheap option available. I know it's the same in Russia and poverty is even worse but America is not shining star of prosperity for many people who live here.

@CooldadFLHTCUI meat prices? I know they're crazy here. I try to snag sales and freeze in portions to cook in later to save money on meat. But so much carbs and veggies for filler/nutrition still. Produce is more expensive than meat here now, too. Hamburger helper is technically cheaper overall than making it myself (it's boxed goulash seasoning/ noodles basically) but it isn't sustainable health wise:/ my kids would put me in debt for avocados alone they're so expensive in season. I wish we had more produce again like in socal 😭

Okay. Can you help me understanding this argument? I am from slovakia. Here we have gypsies that live in proper poverty, and i mean not "ghetto" but africa style slums, social benefits for adult person are like 80e/month, which is obviously very low (for reference minimum wage is 750e/month and people still have hard time to live on). So those gypsies have to live on really tight budget, what i can see, they are mostly eating rice, potatoes, frozen chicken, some low quality meat/sausages, pasta etc... Why doesnt she eat things like that? Is really frozen chicken with rice and beans more expensive than this slob with dozens of spices? If you cant afford to buy food, can you afford to buy electric spice grinder? Or is it cultural? Because i see when our gypsies go to UK and live on social benefits in those social housing apartments, they live like kings, while their local neighbours literally struggle to survive. And it is about choices, what you buy with your limited income (as everybody has limited income and has to make choices, and the less money you have the more important those choices are). I am not trying to offend anyone or anything, i am genuinely interested in this topic. Because i hear a lot about poverty in america, but every time i hear of poverty, i do not see poverty just - what i would consider - poor choices. If people do not have money for food, why are they buying nice clothing, cars, gadgets etc... what is wrong with pasta al pomodoro, chicken with rice and beans, some simple risotto, quiche etc...?

As someone from not the most wealthy family growing up either, there are just as cheap much more healthy and appetizing alternatives to this slop. I mean you can still buy lots of cheap frozen veggies, meat and use actual fresh garlic/onion (not a luxury directly) instead of dried mystery spice powder or to completely drown the slop with tons of sauces, sugar and sodium - or just have some more variety on recipes of actual nutritious food, which doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive or time consuming at all. Those hospital bills will be much more expensive down the line if not.

Because in America, if you live in 'poor' or subsidized housing you will likely live in a "food desert". This is an area where you probably cannot reach a store that has real food in it. You certainly don't live in an area where you could grow your own food or own your own chickens. You will be able to get to a store that has highly processed, highly subsidized food in it. That highly processed, highly subsidized food can be paid for with your electronic benefits card or food stamps or whatever it's called in your region. It's one of the insidious feedback loops in America. 😔 If they come into a bit of money they have to spend it immediately or else they are access to EBT or food stamps will be cut for a very long time. They can't save it, they can't invest it, soon as they have that money if they don't spend it immediately it will change their income structure and although they may still need housing or need help with food, they will be cut off from it, so they spend it on iPhones and whatever. Another ridiculous trap. We have one side of our political system always trying to punish the poor so they hate their lives so much that they want to get up and out from under, and another side trying to help them and make it better so that their lives don't suck while they're there but neither side wants to work together to enable them to have some humanity and dignity and help themselves out.

bad cooking is a family/generational problem. if the parents dont know how to cook, the kids won't learn. My parents were good at like 1 dish each. So I taught myself how to cook starting at age 14. Its not hard at all. I ended up being the main cook in my house. then when i got married and her parents had to live with us, my cooking was also way better than my wife's mom (her dad could barely make toast) so I was always the one cooking. mostly because I wanted good food for dinner and the only way to get that was to do it myself.

For example, instead of add 5000 millions kilos de garlic powder on the burger on the pan why not mix it in so the whole thing is seasoned and not just the outside? I can make a pasta dish with just pasta, butter, garlic and parmesan and it will taste better than that stuff. I also see people adding butter to steak! As an Argentinian I'm horrified. Good steak just needs salt, nothing else. But out beef is off the charts. We don't need to cover the bad taste with garlic powder.

@@Judokast36 I’m not too well versed in if it’s intentional/a conspiracy against poor people due to lobbying and malicious intent or if it’s just simple supply and demand economics. But as someone from not the best economic situation myself (In Western Europe) there are similar, but much smaller issues here as well with poorer “white trash” people also eating a ton of preserved food and becoming fat. However, even if economics obviously play a part, I think it’s mostly about taste, culture and cooking skills. There are tons of just as cheap and quick cooking options that doesn’t have to be processed slop. Take frozen veggies and meat for example or just exploring alternative more nutritious recipes, using actual onions, peppers and garlic instead of powder, and not drowning everything in sugar, sodium and high calorie sauces - also not deep frying everything, drinking soda instead of water and over-consuming unhealthy proceed snacks (that are similar in price to fruit). "Mozzarella Pasteurised Cheese Product". I like how Mr Beast is using people's ignorance of big scary words to try and prop up his product. He knows most people won't know or try to look up what this actually means. For milk products to be pasteurised, simply means that it's been heat treated to kill bacteria. There is literally nothing wrong with this. "Cheese product", or "processed cheese", refers to a cheese that's been emulsified with a type of salt and some milk. People hear the word "processed" and misassociate it with UPFs (Ultra Processed Foods). Processed cheese is basically just cheese with a high water content. There is nothing inherently wrong with processed cheese (though some companies may add some unhealthy additives to them). Also, the cheese they are using is also very obviously processed too. No cheese stays saucy at room temperature like that. So, they are legit hypocrites too.

Roman, in Canada Lunchables is crackers, cheese and a bit of cold cut meat. It's like charcuterie for preschoolers. If you want to see shocking unhealthy food, look up Olestra. It's never been allowed in Canada, thankfully. Back in the day it was red dye#3 iirc and Saccarin artificial sweetner that was widespread in US food while countries were banning or putting restrictions. There's tons of great cuisine in the US as evidenced with the number of Michelin rated establishments. Canada only got its first Michelin recommended place only in the last year or two.

I'm an American woman, and all I can say is, I couldn't agree more. I visited Ireland a couple years ago, and it was night and day with the food. Night and day. I'm 3.5 hours south of Orlando, and I went to Disney with my mom back in April, and we ate in Germany in Epcot, and our inner fat kids came out. It tasted how an authentic bratwurst sandwich should taste, with the sausage, sauerkraut and cheese. It tasted fantastic. When I'm out and about with my boyfriend, I try sway him to try international stuff. Thai is one of our favorites, but there's a Swedish coffee house that we've tried, and there's a Georgian cafe next to a Peruvian restaurant; I'll try their khachapurri. I had a sandwich at the Swedish coffee house near me, and it tasted how a ham and cheese sandwich was supposed to; if they didn't close in the middle of the day, I'd probably be eating there every night. Schools in the US have been giving kids prison food for too long, and when Michelle Obama started the school lunch program, it really became prison food; no child older than sixth grade is gonna eat something that's 50-90% vegetables and portioned for a five-year-old. The execution was too unrealistic. Don't even get me started on the fact that they took away recess. It's shocking what the USDA allows.

Processed food tends to be cheaper per calorie. The thing about processed food is that it doesn't have much fibre so you need to eat more to feel full, this is in my opinion why people eat so many calories they don't need (and therefore put on weight). Vegetables make you feel full for longer despite having less calories because they have a lot of fibre. Despite being "cheaper", eating processed food can cost you more because you need to eat more to feel full.

It's hilarious to me that Roman has freely admitted that his diet largely consists of junk food and fast food, a lot of it being American brands, and makes this video anyway. That's just very funny to me 🤣 For reference, Lunchables were always a "treat" thing for me and my brother when we were little kids (under age 10). We would get it once a year, for our birthdays. It was mostly an advertising thing to be cool, not about flavor or nutrition. I didn't know anyone who was eating them every day. My brother and I were both over it by the time we were 10 years old, tops. I imagine the updated Mr. Beast version is targeting a similar market. I feel like most of the parents I know wouldn't let their kids eat this on a regular basis (if at all). The other slop is terrible, and is MUCH more common in American homes than it should be. Yes, a lot of it is driven by poverty. That said, my family wasn't rich and I wasn't raised eating food like that crap. I still don't cook or eat that stuff now. I feel like most middle and upper class Americans have very little experience with eating meals like the ones in the clips. The thing is that it's actually more expensive in the long run to eat this garbage than it is to eat healthier, simpler, and tastier food, but it's much more time consuming and it requires cooking skills, so a lot of people actually spend extra money to eat like crap. It's sad. All of that said, this stuff is not truly representative of the food most Americans actually eat in their homes or in our restaurants/food establishments. It's just rage bait for bored housewives and the incels who hate them 😉

It is truly disgusting how these types of overly processed and artificial foods are advertised especially towards children and I truly believe that all involved in this should be greatly ashamed of themselves. One thing I'd like to point out though is that the majority of families which have poor diets (and as a result adverse health effects) are those of low middle to poverty level. In cases such as these healthy foods are unaffordable because our government subsidises the production of cheap grains like corn & wheat, beef & dairy the most. Meaning that foods which contains these elements tend to be much cheaper. It's the reason a bottle of Coke is cheaper than a bottle of water. So the unfortunate reality is these poor Americans are left with two choices, A.) them and their children can have not enough to eat, but what they do can be healthy and of great quality or B.) they eat garbage but at least no one goes hungry. It's a really sad epidemic in our country. I promise you though families which have the funds available to them in 90% of cases do not cook like that. Many have tried to make some amends, such as incorporating canned corn & peas into Mac and cheese & hot dogs, which ngl goes kinda hard. lol But yeah a lot of the dietary issues can be blamed on budgetary constraints and government policies which favor the production of grains, meats & dairy and remember our sugar is corn syrup so it comes from a grain, so we could effectively put sugar in their too as long as we acknowledge its not really sugar.

"oh we import top quality veggies from the best markets tho" but nah, as an example: the bananas we export in Colombia and Ecuador into the US are simply popular there just because they're perfectly yellow and have close to no black spots, but they're actually tasteless, non exportable banana species are actually better in taste. All of this to say that you cannot truly shield on international cousine if local ingredients aren't up to the same quality as in their main countries. + I recently found out Americans are offbranding Europeans cheeses and wines lol
