Cook has played QB because he is from Missouri and they need to keep recruiting in Missouri. He is not the caliber of QB we need. He is also a SR and Drink has issues with backup QB's to replace. Cook is not a good pocket passer if he’s not given time. He does his best when he rolls out and has time to find people that are settling in empty zone pockets. Kirby Moore is trying to force Cook to stay in the pocket and not adjusting whatsoever to his strengths right now. When Cook rolls out toward the sideline it also gives him room to use his legs to his advantage.

@Jim-e7v2 ай бұрын
Please look at some plays from last year. Cook in previous years basically never threw from the same arm angle, elbow all over the place, and ball placement while looking downfield is varied. This year, the ball is held much higher, elbow is tucked, and throws much closer to his helmet. All items are signs he is now QBing for what he has been told, probably in camps, what will get him drafted. In other words, he is no longer himself, not just playing and reacting. I blame this on his college coaches. Obviously his coaches agreed(second thought, or maybe it was their idea) and they have practiced and practiced. The further down the field you go on the length of the pass, his timing gets more out of sync. More frustration and he becomes more hesitant. Your placement of his passes tells a story. The sad part is that you would hope the Tiger coaches know this and have receivers fake into the overly used areas of the field and then throw into the lesser used. Offensive tendencies in your game can be taken away from you by good defenses, but are you a good enough coaching staff and offensive unit to adjust and exploit defensives in a different way? We shall see in the next couple of weeks.

I think he wanted more velocity for the NFL as well, & is overthrowing guys & lost some touch as a result. The OLine was really bad in the A&M game. 25 hurries & 6 sacks on 31 throws. You can't ever win a fb game that way. They've got to get better in pass pro.

Kinda reminds me of flip Pressey last year, where he was wanting so bad to get drafted that he quit playing the way that got him noticed in the first place, I feel like cook is wanting to avoid interceptions so bad that he’s not taking any risk and when he throws deep he’s trying to be too fine instead of just let it rip. Hopefully they go up northeast and just let it fly interceptions be damned. 1 yard under pressure is not going to get you drafted anyway.
@JustAFanOfSports2 ай бұрын
One “positive” - considering just how awful the offense looked, if the ref keeps the PI call, it would have been 1st down in the red zone for possibly 3 or 7 points on that drive. And if Membou didn’t go too far, Burden’s TD counts. We would have had a total of 21 or 24 points and not 10. A final score of 41-24 instead of 41-10 would have been a “little” better. Oh well
@JMFBizzle2 ай бұрын
More than that. Prob 14 points. 3 or more minutes off the clock. That PI call was a 4th down & gave A&M a short field that they immediately scored on. So more like a 21pt difference 5 or more mins off the clock. We're not playing 21pts behind so we can run the ball & control the clock. Complete momentum shift & changed the game plan. With that being said, if you're a top 10 team, you figure it out. Your def holds. Your off clicks & you drive down the field the next time. We didn't play like a top 10 or even tip 20 team.

In 23, he looked a little better because great O-line play and great running game with Schrader. But when we faced talent like LSU and GA that was able to neutralize our O-line, Cook failed. He's a good kid, just not an SEC caliber QB. He's average even when he has plenty of protection. Without protection, he can't make any notable throws or scrambles. He is just a below avg D1 QB, nothing more.

If you add back in his sack yds, sacked 67 times, you can add in at least 400yds & he's well over 5ypc. He's not an avg QB. Just b/c you're not Jaden Daniels, Penix, or Bo Nix doesn't make you an avg cfb QB. If Beck & Cook switch places, we're worse. They're the same under pressure, & Cook is a better runner. You saw what Beck looked like in the 1st half of the ALA game when he didn't have a talent surplus. Look at Milroe in the last 6 qtrs or the 1st 3 qtrs of the USF game. Every QB performs worse under pressure. 26 pressures & 6 sacks against A&M. That's an OLine issue not a Cook issue. He has one of the quickest releases in CFB under 3 secs. The OLine has to get a lot better & quickIy.

@@JMFBizzle While I appreciate your well researched and thought out response, I am not convinced. I think this is a classic case of proving that ole saying, "There are lies, damn lies, and statistics". Those career stats are padded based on the 4 cupcakes they play every year in non-conf, and then the usual Vandy and other "down" SEC team in any given season (like Ark and KY last year). And notice, I didn't say "avg cfb QB", I said he wasn't an SEC caliber QB. If you wanna be competitive with the Tide, Dawgs, Vols, and now Longhorns, etc, you've gotta be at least an avg SEC caliber QB. As far as Carson Beck vs Cook, I'm not sure, I'd say that's a toss up. I'm not impressed with him either, but I don't think he's worse than Cook. Agree with you about the O-Line. But it's also much more than that. The whole team is a dumpster fire right now. Moore doing nothing to call a good Offensive game. D-Coordinator looks completely lost and Wegman picked them apart. Corners are terrible, D-Line can't get pressure without blitz, O-line is straight garbage, WR's not named Weiss or Burden can't catch anything, we don't know how to utilize the TE position, game day coaching is terrible, etc..... the team is a mess and regressing each week.
@JMFBizzle2 ай бұрын
@jbmusic309 Well, since you said SEC caliber, & you've crossed Beck off the list. Who are the SEC caliber QBs? Cook is more accurate, with a better td/int ratio than most SEC QBs. For example, this year Cook has a QBR of 66.3, which is 9th out of 16 QBs. So basically right in the middle, after UMASS he'll jump up to 5 or 6. He's not an elite 1st rd NFL SEC QB, not the best SEC QB, but he's an avg+ SEC QB right now. As for the schedule. Everybody plays an easy non-conf schedule. ALA & UGA historically play an 8 home 4 away schedule, against really bad teams. I would argue that BC has a very good QB, an NFL coach, & is an upper half ACC team. That's not garbage. VAN just beat ALA. They scored more pts than ALA. We dominated VAN. We had 130 more tot/yds, 20 more mins TOP, & missed 3 fgs. If we weren't playing on a wet field, Burden doesn't drop a td pass, etc. It's a 20+ pt blowout. StatisticalIy that game wasn't close. Cook played better than Millroe v the same team. BUF is an avg MAC team, Murray St is an avg FCS team. We blew them out 89-0. Cook did not play in the second half of those two games. Had he played those entire games, he has 4 more tds & bump his QBR up 10 pts. Compare him to Dart, who most would argue is a top 3 QB in the SEC. He played Furman(2-3), MTSU(1-4), WF(2-3) prob the worst team in the ACC, lost & played horribly v KEN(3-2), & beat SCAR(3-2). Cooks had a way tougher schedule. I could do this with all of these teams. As for the OLine I think we agree. I disagree the WRs have not been good. Vs A&M. Wease 9 TGTs 2 catches Mookie 7 TGTs 1 catch Noel 3 TGTs 2 catches Roberts 1 TGT 1 catch That's it besides Burdens 7/8 82yds. That's not just not good enough, that's abysmally bad. 3/16 89yds 1td is not good from your WR2 & WR3. No Mekhi, Johnson, Manning, Norfleet, etc. The WRs have to catch the ball, period. You're a 1st rd draft pick? We've got 2 of them? Play like it. If the OLine is giving up 26 pressures & 6 sacks, they can't create lanes for the RBs, & the WRs are dropping passes, what's Cook supposed to do? By comparison we had 7 pressures on Weigman. The def was god awful. Pride got hit in the chest with a pass & didn't catch it. He got beat several times. There's a reason Clemson gave up on him. Almost every td we gave up before this game was a Pride blown coverage with an undefended wr for a long td pass. That has to stop. We also had zero pressure on Weigman. I hate the 3-3-5. We need to play a 4-3, or a 4-2-5 & make it work. I see way too many of these packages trying to scheme up OLB's. Either you play what the big boys play, line up 4, & get to the QB/stop up the run, or you're screwed. ALA's 3-3-5 killed them against VAN & almost lost them the UGA game once they adjusted. It's for teams that want to have smaller more athletic guys to cover in space. Doesn't work against teams that are bigger faster stronger. Play bully ball on def. We really are missing KAD. He changed the entire def. Pride can't do it. I'm not sure why we aren't putting Clarke out there, or Norwood on the WR1, Pride isn't cutting it. We've got lots of problems right now. The only thing they can do with Cook is have him roll out more & tell him to run it more. They've been hesitant, maybe to prevent injury, but at this point I think they have no choice & I expect we'll see that @ALA. Cooks put on 15+ lbs. I think he did that to increase his arm strength for the NFL. He's over throwing guys sometimes & has lost some touch. He needs to get that corrected. Anyway that's my take. I don't think it's that Cook is not an SEC caliber QB. If that's the case there's only 3 or 4 SEC caliber QBs.
