I dont think we really need to 'strive not to be like the world'. There's a better way.A more positive way - knowing that we are "changing from glory to glory" each day, knowing we have a Christ indwelt spirit, knowing with no doubt Gods grace & love towards us - its these things that truly change us, i.e. instead of struggling not be like an unsaved person, we rest in what Christ has made us, and therefore we are changing into his image. I never grew up in a christian home or read a bible or knew anything about church growing up. And I didn't believe in God either. But I bet my eternal salvation on the love of Jesus to save me from my sin and my poor decisions in life. The Lord only condems us to bow and worship idles or other gods but these things are just traditions in our culture taking place. In our church this easter we will celebrate Christ being raised from the dead and not easter eggs.

Yes, thats exactly right - your heart is right with God, your dress is only what you wear to stay covered up - and u cant help it if your dress looks like the same dress that unsaved people wear. Now translate that to other things like music, poetry, sculpture, sport etc etc. Its the same thing, if your heart is right with God, all the things u own, your gifts, your taste of music , your favorite car, etc etc is just a part of who u are. They are only external things.

Yes. I remember discovering this passage at work many years ago. Its a favourite of mine. U can see that vs.3 tells us what we were, then vss 4 -7 tells us what God Himself has done for us in Christ. In vs 8a, Paul says "affirm these things constantly" ( confess positively all the time-(great advice)), then vs8b, "that they which believed in God might be careful to maintain good works". Of course, these good works flow out of our new nature - because God has already made us 'good'.Cont....

I used to work for some of the Biggest Christian Christian Metal/Rock bands in the late 80's to the mid 90's, We saw many of these 3 piece suit's in almost every city, If you don't dress or listen to their music, or follow them then your going to hell or this or that is not of God it's of the Devil..... I look at these people as a joke, most of his points are way off and are misinformed and very unrealistic, he has cherry picked almost everything he has brought to bare, Follow Us or go to hell, I wonder if He would want us to drink the purple kool-aid ( yeah I went there) I've seen the ones who gave their lives to the Lord, the lives saved from suicide, souls that came to healing through prayer, after the shows we had churches for follow up...

Cont... It's not that we try to be 'good' to get 'good' before God. In other words we do righteous things not get righteous, but becoz God has already made us righteous. Our deeds & works then become a joyful fulfilling experience, and not burdensome. Life flows, we grow, and people will be touched by this, a lot of times, without us even knowing it. Just keep rockin, when God gives you a mission people like this will try to tear you down. It's jealousy, because they want their own mission so bad that they use bits and pieces of the scripture instead of the Word as a whole to make something good look bad. I really understand this Brother, many christian rock bands have a nonsense form of cheap publicity, and many of their songs are not even Holy Spirit inspired, but that doesn´t mean that they are not Christians, because all who are lead by the Spirit of the Lord are sons of GOD... I think the problem is playing Heavy Metal in the Church... I prefer to stick to the old songs and old praise forms ( I am a Christian Metal singer, Youth Pastor) But I keep rock for street and outreach ministries

Yes, I am aware of christian artists praying at a concert they held. We had a singer from the Phillipines , last year i think it was, who did that. He's seen as the 'king of pop' to the Phillipinos - they think he's just great.

I also totally agree with him about the "Jesus surfer" part, I don't think that is funny or right for Christian people to portray him that way. But today, do we ever see things in Christian rock/contemporary that do mock God or Jesus? I don't know about you, but I have yet to see a Christian artist who doesn't play to glorify Christ, and I also have yet to see a Christian artist who deliberately mocks God. But we do need to be careful in what we accept as okay or not for Christians.

I totally agree with the understanding of a spirit behind music. I just don't think building the argument on watching every little movement of people's hands is very solid. In some countries in Europe, it is considered an offensive gesture similar to "flipping the bird" at someone. In sporting events for the University of Texas, it's called the Hook 'em Horns sign, and it's a common greeting from one Longhorns fan to another. Every football game day when the Longhorns are playing at their home stadium in Austin, Texas, you can see hundreds of thousands of people using that sign. You know we could decide to change the term "rock' or "rock and roll, or "rock'n'roll to something else to categorize its genre. We could call it "post-blues", and the same music will still go on. Another thing, rock and roll is a vague term these days - there's so many sub-genres. One term i use now (most common now) is "progressive rock". PA

@MasterOfTheDudeness Some modern day bible translators have suggested that the original writings of Paul and others were most likely written in Hebrew, not Greek. The oldest translations still in existence are in Greek; however, they are most likely translations. The original letters that Paul penned with his own hand do not exist today, so there is no basis for you to say that he wrote his letters in Greek. We don't know that as a fact because his "original" writings do not exist.
