I believe the wires you fixed are for the cold start injector. It looks to be a similar setup to a 22re

CD-09 transmission, hydro, suspension, welded diff, that thing will rip. I love it when you work on the RADVAN dude, please do more videos like this whenever you work on it! I know you're constantly working on other cars to fund operating costs, but still - love the van footage!

Washed out the cylinder walls with fuel from not disconnecting anything testing the starter. Rings / cylinders were slick. Took it getting fairly warm in the heat cycle to yet seat.

RAD Industries Dan, good thing is it's a piston engine. They're a little more forgiving. Hate i missed you in Atlanta. Was looking forward to meeting you. Disability made the trip impossible. Next year!

I used to have one of these - same colour and everything. I loved driving it. Still my favorite vehicle of any I've owned. The rear wheel drive wasn't especially practical in Canadian winters, but it was fun to drive. One thing I distinctly remember is that you never had to slow down for speedbumps - the van just floated over them. I unfortunately had to get rid of it because it was getting too rusty (road salt with Canadian winters is brutal). The engine still ran butter smooth.

Cold start injecter.
@Gprime276 жыл бұрын
Looks like you might have got some oil down the valve stem seals and into the combustion chambers which could make it hard to start kinda like hydro locking it
@RADIndustries6 жыл бұрын
It was exactly what happened, I cranked it over with no plugs and is spit a little fuel and oil out. Then I put the plugs back in and it started up but had to burn off a little oil and it works fine now. I was pretty scared though for a few minutes 🤔

Great content- thanks for the walk through and trouble-shoot. BTW- In case you don't already know- Once you pull the passenger seat, you can unbolt the panel that covers the whole passenger side of the van. Makes it much easier to change out the plugs, oil filter from the top and more areas hard to access otherwise. I've owned my 4x4 for years and am just starting to learn the mechanics and doing a bunch of work myself. Fun to learn, but a bear to work on sometimes. Keep up the posts and updates!

was all the smoke from when you were turning the motor w/o the plugs in and still had injectors squirting?

Hey Dan that’s a cold start injector, no performance added there lol. Only reason I no that is cuz I’ve owned a couple 80s Toyota’s.

Yeah looks like a cold start injector. My 83 Supra had one. Leaked a bit and caused my 5m to run rich. Also I am wondering if when you had the air filter off does your breather vent into that acordian pipe? Maybe you had some oil that was sitting there and got bumped into the engine when the pipe was angled up? Just s thought. The van is cool. Looks like a nightmare to work on. Imagine doing the timing in that thing, or a head gasket. Yikes.

Looks like the air flow sensor is the old style with a spring loaded plate, likely that it didn't like to be banged around and hold upside down, have seen those type do that before. It's a really awsome looking van by the way! And the starter just sounded like it was hitting top of tooth against top of tooth, thats nothing to worry about, just push the car in gear so it spins the flywheel like a mm, maby need to be changed if it keeps doing that. Keep it up dude, you are awsome!

Worn/old valve stem seals and oil leaked past the valve stem seals from adding oil after the oil change?
@Clem_Kadidlehopper6 жыл бұрын
Adam Lapid no, it's a faulty cold start injector that he repaired the wires and flooded and hydrolocked the engine.
@jonkidwell24896 жыл бұрын
i think you had oil in your spark plug journal and it fell into the cylinder when pulled out the plug then locked the cylinder when you went to start it then when you turned it over by hand you put the oil in the exhaust freeing up the engine. then you started it and burned off the oil in the exhaust system.
@Clem_Kadidlehopper6 жыл бұрын
Jon Kidwell faulty cold start injector. That's why it was like vapor locked then smoked like crazy running rich.
@jonkidwell24896 жыл бұрын
Possible and I'm not saying you're wrong but then I think it would happen every cold start. And it would be quite the coincidence that this happened right as they changed the plugs and no other time before. Again you may be right I'm not there in person to put hands on it.
