What’s Wrong with the Traxxas Stampede 2WD... Honest Review & Complaints

I based the steering geometry off this for my custom trophy truck. I have a bad understeer problem. Sometimes is bad but sometimes it steers great depending on the speed. It's even more annoying as mine is super overpowered.

Thanks! Steering geometry can be tricky, especially with overpowered setups. The understeer issue sounds frustrating, but it’s cool that you’re experimenting with custom builds like your trophy truck. I completely agree-trophy trucks like the Traxxas UDR really shine with that realistic suspension and weight transfer. I also prefer a well-handling RC over one that’s just fast. It’s all about enjoying the driving experience!

Tamiya AW grease should solve the diff issue, it sticks like gum and will have a slight limited slip effect much better than the stock type grease..

Thanks for the tip! I actually ended up trying a little trick I came up with on the fly before I soldered the open diff - I cleaned out the diff with grease and used tire glue on the spider gears to lock it. The glue worked perfectly and, best of all, it’s reversible! If I ever want to go back to an open diff, acetone lets me release the spider gears easily. The car’s handling has improved a lot with the locked diff, especially for both driving and drifting-much more control now! 🙌

That sounds awesome! I’d love to check out your build-it sounds like you’ve put in the time to address every weak spot and make it a contender. I totally respect that because, honestly, dialling in the Stampede sometimes feels like trying to turn a Jeep into a race car. You can absolutely make it faster and better, but it takes a lot of effort and investment. That said, the Stampede’s durability is unmatched-it’s like a tank in the RC world. I’m curious, what’s been the most impactful upgrade you’ve done that really changed how it performs? Thanks for watching

These ugly little things are pretty fun but get hated too much. Sure ITS BAD but you can find one cheap and bash the heck out of it.

They’re a lot of fun and definitely get more hate than they deserve. I made the video to help people considering one know what issues to expect, both out of the box and with some upgrades. It might help them decide whether the Stampede’s flaws are a dealbreaker or if they’d rather explore other Traxxas models!
