About the Speakers:
Joel Wishkovsky is an entrepreneur focused on starting, funding and scaling climate technology companies. Some select current projects include: Climate Draft, Bedrock Energy, Photon and Curexa.
Prior to transitioning to climate Joel was the Founder and CEO of Simple Health, one of the largest telemedicine platforms in the US. It helps millions of women access birth control and other reproductive health products. Previously, he cofounded Sols Systems, a pioneer in 3D printing of medical devices which was sold to Aetrex in 2015. During COVID-19 he helped launch Frontline Foods, a grassroots non-profit that raised and deployed $11M to feeding frontline workers and effected communities using local restaurants (World Central Kitchen merged the organization into their permanent programs in July 2020).
Joel is an active early stage investor with greater than 40 companies, funds and Private Equity transactions. He is often the first outside capital into a company and help to sharpen the vision and business model.
Prior to startups, he was part of General Electric's IT leadership program (IMLP) and its financial and operational auditing program (Corporate Audit Staff). During his time there he led large scale IT implementations and performed operational and financial audits of GE businesses with a focus on acquisition integrations. Outside of work, Joel is an avid mountaineer, backpacker and traveler who has visited more than 50 countries and only been excluded from one.
Caroline de Bossart (Lester) is a Director representing the Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, an organisation founded by Jeremy and Hanne Grantham, where she advises on grants and investments into neglected climate solutions. She has a particular interest in carbon removal and is a board director for C-Trees, a non-profit organisation that tracks carbon for every tree on the planet to enable nature-based climate solutions at scale. Prior to the Grantham Foundation, she was a growth-stage climate investor at CPP Investments, the C$500B investment arm of the Canadian pension plan, and a strategy consultant at Bain & Company. She was selected for the 2020/21 Harvard Climate Leaders Programme. Caroline lives in the Canadian Rockies with her husband and husky.
Daniel Phillipson is the founder and managing partner of Deep Energy Capital and an experienced investor with over 20 years in financial markets. Prior to forming Deep Energy Capital, Dan spent 18 years with PIMCO in London and Munich where he was most recently responsible for the evaluation, design and development of investment strategies across public and private markets. His responsibilities covered Europe, the Middle East and Africa region (EMEA) and his team covered over $300 billion in investor assets across public and private markets. Prior to PIMCO, Dan was active in strategic consulting with a focus on private equity transactions and divestments/spinouts from multinational corporations.
A Canadian and German national, Dan has collaborated with and built investment solutions for sophisticated investors across global markets. Dan holds a business degree from the Richard Ivey School of Business in London, Ontario (Canada), completed the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at the University of Chicago, Booth School of Business (USA), and Yale University’s Center for Business and the Environment (USA) Certificate in Financing and Deploying Clean Energy Program (FDCE). Dan is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charterholder.
As CEO, Alexander is in charge of Baseload Capital’s investments and overall portfolio performance. He has extensive experience in international project finance as well as operating and running companies.
