DON'T LEAVE TOP DRAFT PICKS OFF THE ROSTER! and choose a coach that doesn't suck

What I was thinking also. Great talent pool to pull from for players; find a coach who can coach at this level. Maybe this is Talent Diversity in action. Give Junior B players a place on the roster……to be fair. I shudder at the possibility of that being true.

It sounds like people are putting down Czechia and that losing to them was an outrage. Czechia or its predecessor Czechoslovakia, has been a leading hockey power since I was a kid, and I'm old. Back when the US team won the gold medal in 1980, their early round win over Czechoslovakia was considered almost as big an upset as beating the Russian team, and the four big hockey teams were Canada, USSR, Czechoslovakia and Sweden. The US & Finland were afterthoughts. They haven't been as much of a power since the split with Slovakia, losing access to some top players, but this is still a country with a long hockey history and tradition of winning.

Biggest takeaway? Hockey Canada's braintrust, or lack thereof, are arrogant idiots... Too much favoritism, too much politics, vis a vis player selection... Terrible coaching, lack of in-game adjustments... No practices? Excuse me?!?... I don't care which agent represents which kid... CHL, Division 1 college... Invite all the best players available to camp... If star players, on their various teams, need to adjust to unfamiliar roles that's a helluva lot easier than teaching grinders and defensive minded role players to score goals... If they don't fix this... BY NEXT YEAR... Heads need to roll at Hockey Canada starting at the top... AND Canadians need to boycott this World Jr tourney in droves, to voice their displeasure... What we witnessed this year, coupled with an arrogant lack of accountability, cannot be repeated period.... Team Canada's International Hockey legacy is a sacred trust which MUST be put in the hands of dedicated professionals who ONLY CARE ABOUT WINNING... This is Canada... This is Hockey... Winning isn't everything, IT'S THE ONLY THING... END-RANT

Canada needs to ADAPT. The rest of the world has caught up. In the US, significant time, money, & effort have been invested in developing a robust college hockey program. College hockey is now bigger &better than ever, with many recent greats emerging from its ranks and more players opting for college over junior leagues. The competition is greater than ever

College hockey is done well - practice more, play fewer games and get an education while you're at it. Getting rid of fighting in the NHL would send the right message to young players, also. Look at "highlights" of NHL games on KZbin and you'll mostly see fights or ridiculous penalties and suspensions. No other sport tolerates this nonsense, Don Cherry be damned.

We keep picking teams that are built to win the Memorial Cup or Stanley Cup in the NHL. These are short tournaments, you win tournaments by scoring goals and playoff series’s by keeping pucks out of your net - to many playmakers are left off the team for “role” players!!

The world has caught up. It’s good for hockey. Winning a truly international tournament, played globally, sb very hard to win. I also think that Canada no longer selects from the best athletes playing organized hockey. Limited access and unaffordable for many families, so those athletes play other sports. It was always expensive, it’s now out of reach for too many. The rise in numbers of Canadian athletes in football, basketball and soccer, while participation rates in hockey continue to decline would seem to bear this out. Local rinks are being replaced with for profit rinks. Hockey sticks by themselves cost the same as a pair of cleats or ball shoes. I would suggest that hockey might need to look at the bigger picture in Canada.

Obviously there are concerns with management and the player selection going forward. The culture at Hockey Canada has become incredibly arrogant and has lost sight of what a winning team looks like. The lack of accountability and lack of regrets after an incredibly embarrassing showing all tournament is a major concern. The solution is simple though. Take the best players we had available and get a flexible coach who will put the best guys on the ice. We had many skilled and elite players to pick from and we left them all at home.

Lets make sure we dont talk about the main reason Canada isn't winning, is that there best players are literally too good for the tournament. What happens last year if there first line is celebrini centering Bedard and fantilli? or this year with those 2 two guys and benson or Mckenna? Not to mention multiple others guys not loaned back. The reality would be they win every game by 2 plus goals.

I think that there is something rotten to the core at hockey Canada. Why have we been involved in all of these scandals over the last few years, which has resulted in a number of NHL players still not playing now in 2025? Why has our standing in international play dropped consistently over the past decade or so? I think hockey Canada got fat, happy and lazy from winning for too long and we have paid the price. Fire every damn one of them and start over with a new management team that will keep us out of scandals and in the finals...

When will this country realize that outpricing Canadian families from "Canada's Game" will never help build a wealth of talent? You can make a few kids even better, but not make many kids really damn good. And some of the best kids out there will never get noticed if their parents can't afford to get them noticed. We should ask ourselves why we have fewer and fewer Canadians in the NHL every decade. It's because other countries are making their youth systems work. Clearly we are NOT! So for all you rich A-holes running these expensive training programs, or scouting kids to stack up a AAA team with kids from all over the province, you're ruining the game and depleting the talent. And even the really good players on stacked AAA teams are getting less ice time, so they will not develop as well either. Also, the competition will be weaker, so they won't learn to play under pressure if they just keep destroying opponents all the time. Maybe we should practice more than we play. Develop skills over systems. Make it about the players, not the coaches, or the parent's bank accounts (or dare I say lines of credit? 2nd mortgages anyone? Cashed in RRSP's?... yeah, this crap is happening because big city dumbasses in charge of this sport think that's the way to make hockey in this country better). Clearly, the selfish people in charge need to go. Sport in general is about the kids. If you think otherwise, you should be banned from the rink, field, court, etc.
