What's your build - Arrma Typhon TLR

In this, first in the series, video, we put the TLR tuned Typhon 6s front and center to go over how we built it and why we chose to do it the way we did. These videos in this series are fairly short but are packed with insight as to why we do what we do for the channel. Each car in the series are the ones shown during the reviews, bashing footages, and so forth. We build them the way we think they should be built, but it is in no way the only, or best, builds out there. We only know these builds work for us. Come along and see for yourself as AJ walks you through the builds we love so much.
Keep in mind this is a new series and we are still working out the kinks. Please feel free to leave suggestions in the comments.

My TLR typhon has badlands tires, spektrum 1900kv motor, 130a ESC and a 25kg servo. 46T spur and 18T pinion. Hoping to upgrade soon.

Nice video! my TLR has a mmx8s + tp 4060 1750kv with 27/46 gearing. Thing is a beast and is one of my favorite rigs for on road.

I just got the TLR ready to run version. Any ideas how long this model has been released? Do you think the standard electrics are worth upgrading? I just want to bash it in the woods and local park and do occasional speed runs. Can you get an esc program card for the standard esc?

I have the EXACT same setup down to the tires but in a Typhon 6S v5 with every part available from Hot Racing, some EXB, some RPM, and some M2C. Added the Kraton wing as well. It really is a rocket, I separated a set of Duratrax buggy tires completely from the wheel on nearly every tire.

Hey AJ, I have a Typhon 6s stock/TLR hybrid build. Could you tell me which screws you used to secure the RPM bumper you installed? The stock screws arent long enough.

For $10-$20 more on the servo you’d be in budget for an AGFRC servo. AGFRC has been making servos for other companies that rebrand them for years and then started released servos under their name and they are spectacular. If somehow every servo was missing in all of my RCs, I’m pretty sure I’d replace them all with AGFRC. I run ProModeler’s 935 and 635, 3x Traxxas 2255 High Torque, Spektrum S6280 High Torque (this one is quite nice as well, but it’s $$$), Spektrum S9120 High Torque 1/5 scale (awesome servo as well but it’s $$$ and I’d be willing to bet that the AGFRC 1/5 scale servo is much better), HiTech HSB-9381TH (fantastic servo until it randomly died, replaced, and second died too), Savox Monster Black Edition 2290SG, Spektrum S691 & S692 RTR servos, and AGFRC A80BHSW 36kg $ B44BLS 14.5kg Low Profile High Speed 0.062sec. While all have their positives and all are exceptionally good at what they do (aside from the RTR servos), they are all $100-$200 servos (with the 1/5 scale topping $200) with the exception of the AGFRC and ironically, they are balanced better between high torque and high speeds with one just being a bit better but both specs being impressive. Last thing about AGFRC, they make a TON of different models for many different applications or tuning and driving to whatever style you would want. Both in brushless and cordless as well. Their website does a good job of showing all of the models for a comparison. Hope someone here reads this comment and tries one out. When you drive a RC with a high end servo, it’s really hard to go back to the no-name Chinese knock-offs. I a bit of a snob for servos and love the nice ones, but I don’t like to pay high retail prices. I’ve gotten many of my servos open box for heavy discounts and that’s how I ended up with them, but the AGFRC servos were bought at retail and have been worth every penny.

AGFRC has a terrible warranty reputation. When I invest in a higher priced servo it's always with a company that has built a reputation for honoring a solid warranty.

@@bransonbasher6534 I’ve never had to contact them, but if mine screwed up I’d just return it to be honest. I don’t think they are really a higher priced servo though, almost all are under $100. I consider I high price servo to be $100+

I has a max8 2200kv in mine.also have the axis body from proline.i have both 25 and 35 kg servos giving the 25kg a try first.

How did you go getting a servo in its tray? The manual shows 41.5 width and mine savox 0230, 8kg metal , was right on .... but took over an hour to install. Take the aluminum bracket off, slid over servo body then reverse reinstall, but was tricky getting screws in. The power leads stopped in going straight in. Maybe I'll look at getting something different with slightly smaller body.

@@leigholding1397 you have to angle the leads and use a little force but it will fit I noticed that too also I had to use both spacers to keep servos off the chassis. Which then cause the horn to be higher than the linkage which I had to play with to get the angle a little flatter changed screws and ball inserts out to help also the screw they give you is longer than necessary.

Got it, you want to build a TLR 3s. I don't see why that wouldn't work. The proper power plant, esc and radio and I think you might have something there. Mine runs on 3s already, but it is built for 6s which means the power just isn't there on 3s, but swap out the motor for a 3s system and see what happens. Please let us here know how that works out for you. Perhaps we'll try it in the future. Thanks 😎👍

But the whole point is to tune it with good equipment as that's where it shines. You cant tune the RTRs like you can the TLR. I race the Typhon TLR and once set up with all the right equipment and track conditions it is very competitive. Putting on stock equipment defeats the purpose IMO. I tried racing the 6s Typhon with a 4s system and it was all over the place on the track because there was only so much you can do to tune it.

That’s a fair point. Our channel is based on what stock does and how it stacks up. It only seemed fair to set it up the same way to see if it compared to the original. It does. It has way more adjustments than the original which makes it very versatile. However, we bash. So the tests are as we would run it. Still, these videos are only our opinion and nothing more. Since we no longer race as we once did our tests reflect our opinions. Thanks for commenting 😎👍
