What’s Your Ism? Ep 11. feat Eedina Vasu on Congress's shift left and progressive movements

The Congress and opposition parties are increasingly occupying left spaces. The founder of eedina.com and prominent left activist from Karnataka, H V Vasu responds to criticism that progressive mass movements have been co-opted by the Congress and other non-BJP opposition parties.
In the last set of critical political conversations in this season of What's Your Ism, Sudipto Mondal spoke to three leading civil society intellectuals and leaders days before the Lok Sabha results: Major General Vombatkere, H V Vasu and Teesta Setalvad, the secretary of Citizens for Justice and Peace.
In this part, Vasu said that the Congress and other so-called secular parties have serious contradictions but are not impossible to collaborate with. "If they can use us, we can also use them," he said while underlining that there is growing sentiment in activist groups that they should independently enter electoral politics.

It felt great listening to this interview... For a guy from Kerala like me, Mr. Vasu was an unknown name. Just recently did I happen to know about him after seeing his chat with Mr. Yogendra Yadav. And of course after their accurate poll prediction during the last Karnataka Assembly elections. But this interview shed light into not just the person, but an entire movement which I should have known much before, my mistake. I had known a little bit about it while reading about Ms. Gauri Lankesh after her assassination. But this interview threw more light into so much history. A history which is rich that potentially holds a good future, either way as discussed during the end of the interview. And Mr. Sudipto Mondal, what a great interview! And what a series of interviews! Wonderful job brother. Kudos to you. Just adding, Mr. Ansari's interview about Dalit Muslims seems to be hidden in the playlist. I hope it's only a technical glitch and that it will be rectified. Because his and Ms. Shalin's interviews were the most insightful interviews in this series for me. And this one, of course.

Dr. Vasu and his associates are now getting their dues. They worked hard to fight the communal agenda of RSS and BJP. When dalit and Farmers movements were at their lowest they stood against right wing politics and pushed them to the corner in a big way. For decades Dr. Vasu and his associates were very implicit now they are getting the exposure that they deserve.

It was a very informative vedeo. I had so much information on Karnataka rationalists . And many questions unanswered. I remember when HLNarsimhaiah challenged Saibaba to prove his miracles in front of scientists .And later how Saibaba used his influence and got HL narsim....removed from VC post. I may be wrong but remember the vc was brought to roads and died miserable. I knew how people like gaurilankesh ,kalaburgi was killed by RSS linked organisations. Glad to know u come from same Lineage , working for the marginal sections of our country. People like u are essential to protect our country from rss ideology, excessive capitalism etc.

People are more easily attracted towards evil than to good. It takes hard work to convince the masses through intellect and logic.

Actually they have and do mobilise, but who gives such work much attention? The mainstream media just doesn't cover large movements of the progressive groups...even though people like Gauri lankesh - one of the most important leaders - was killed because of her leadership and work.
